    This is so amazing because just a few evenings ago, I was viewing "Driving Miss. Daisy" on dvd. And then, I turn on RUclips, and it picks this clip for me. I play it. And there is the great Jessica Tandy is full view. I miss her greatly. She is one of the greatest movie actress of our time. They don't make it like that anymore. R.I.P., Miss. Tandy.

      Bob hope was the best. All following hosts learned from him. Billy is the 2nd best, he was really entertaining as a host in the 90's

      I see why you would say that but I have to disagree. Mostly because I've never been a fan of Bob Hope.
      To me billy crystal is far funnier Without being so Polished and teleprompter dependent.
      Crystal is quicker, far more witty and tons more heart.

    Man, he was just amazing. He had the perfect ability to tell a mix of inside-industry jabs and more general audience jokes. And almost all of them got huge laughs. His last few hosting stints were not the best but it's ok because he had some truly classic turns in the 90s.

      Roman Randhahn LOL I so agree! I wasnt even born that year lol....I was quite shocked that back then Meryl Streep was already a joke about being nominated at the Oscars all the time lol. I love Meryl the Queen so much

    Wow , thirty two years ago this aired and it was a time I still watched the Oscars . Crystal was great as the last of the real stars no Will Smiths slapping the host and cursing out loud shows no class . I had to go back in time to laugh and admire class acts .

    Bob Hope, Johnny Carson, Billy Crystal...the perfect Oscar hosts! Some others do OK, but pale in comparison. Those 3 in their individual, but multiple hosting gigs helped you forget how tediously lengthy the awards ceremony could be with their sharp wits.

    woo! I was so little when this aired...but to this day I will randomly sing "me and my left foot" just out of no where...that one little part...and then I start thinking about In Living Color My Left Foot of Fury. Finally saw the actual movie My Left Foot, in Highschool. It was soooo inspiring. Like, if you wanna do art or some kinda hobby but suck at first, think of this dude, who used his friggin TOES to paint! You gotta try and not give up!

    I love that Billy does a parody of the awful Snow White number just to make fun of that idea... and it ends up basically becoming his signature every time he hosts the show

    You can watch these moments countless times
    I was 13 years old then and thought Billy crystal was the best host ever at the Oscar’s ceremony
    34 years later I still believe that so 😊

    Interesting that the Berlin wall fell and Nelson Mandela was released that year. Videos are truly a wonderful invention. Imagine if we had video records from the ancient Egyptian, Roman's and Greeks that would have been awesome

    A time when celebrities in Hollywood still had their mystique. Social media was not around and the Berlin wall came down. Who would have thought that in 2019 , celebrities would have lost all mystery and social media would consume many poor souls and we would be in favor of a huge wall ourselves ?

    Billy always knew how to tease without insulting because he loved and respected his fellow actors. Today's presenters don't have that orientation and often make embarrassing remarks that are somewhat humiliating to the poor victim who sits cringing in their seat.

    Ah, I'm so old....I saw this when it originally aired. 😭😂
    The Art Buchwald joke at 3:40 was in reference to a lawsuit Buchwald filed earlier in 1988 claiming Paramount Pictures stole his idea for Eddie Murphy's Coming To America.
