1965 Chevrolet Nova
VIN 118375N120207
When the Dobbertin Nova was unveiled in 1982, it turned the custom car world on its ear, prompting Hot Rod Magazine to name this mean machine its Street Machine of the Year. The Pro-Street scene was in its infancy, and 30-plus years later, custom car enthusiasts still remember the car and its impact on hot rodding history. Making its debut at Car Craft Magazine's 1982 Street Machine Nationals, the Dobbertin Nova was named Grand Champion, and also captured awards for Best Engine, Best Car, Best Pro-Street Car and Best Engineered. In 1983, the Nova again swept those same categories at both the Car Craft Magazine's Street Machine Nationals as well as the Street Machine Nationals-East. It was also awarded Champion status that year at the International Show Car Association's Northeast Division. This groundbreaking machine has appeared on the cover of 14 magazines and has been featured in over 100 publications around the world. When Hot Rod Magazine celebrated its 65th Anniversary in 2013, they invited former Hot Rod Magazine feature cars out to Pomona, CA, for a Homecoming. The Nova went, and its presence prompted an inside cover and two-page spread in Hot Rod Magazine's August issue. It is, without question, one of the most significant and important custom cars ever built, and to this day remains a benchmark for innovation and excellence among hot rod enthusiasts. Rick Dobbertin devoted more than 3,000 hours over the course of three years to create this legendary performance vehicle. The Nova is in exceptional condition. With exception of the front wheels, the car is still 100% original to the day it was built. Sure to be a showpiece in any collection, the Dobbertin Nova is a piece of automotive history that will continue to inspire custom car builders for decades to come.
Vintage and recent calendars featuring the car, 16x20 print, 7 DVD's of the car being featured at various car shows, arm restraints for the seatbelts are included in the sale.

What an ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE build!! Still an amazing car 39 years on! Rick was waaaay ahead of his time...the design and craftsmanship on this street machine is unequaled.
Yes I remember reading about this bad boy in HOT ROD magazine. Seen it in person. Very nice!!💪💪💪💪
I don't know about anyone else. I like that crushed velvet interior man!! It totally retro!! Which I dig!! That is one badass little Nova that was way ahead of it's day!! Turbo and a blower?! How Kool is that??!!
I was there when this car was being built. Rick would only use the best of the best material. The car started out as a beautiful original 6 cyl SS. I can't believe it still looks exactly as it did when it rolled out of his shop in 1982. An incredible piece of machinery !!!!
That color looks like a factory tint. My brother had a 1964 move as and it was the exact same color.
This car and Rick's Pontiac J2000 were all over the hot rod super chevy magazines back in 82 83 I new that building a cool hot rod was what I was going to do one day, 40+ years later I have built a few, Rick was a inspiration to me and others.
I hope this car is taken to a place where it will be honored and cared for!!!
Jay Leno might be interested in this one, if it hasn't been sold already.
what for a historic pro-street dream car ! a great us car magazine superstar.
i love cars like this.
and to see how it runs and drive in 2023 years after to read the articles is crazy.
please god save the street machine nationals !!
A 90's legend in the pro/st scene!
best car ever can use . not a catalog car like today. rick was a master craftsman. his global traveler is something the military can use.
Excellent craftsmanship. I can imagine all the manpower and help that he got to build this beauty. Beautiful workmanship as well. I hate to ask Greg how much did he pay for the car. But I definitely know it’s a lot. And yes I do remember this baby in magazines.
I LOVE PRO STREET!!!!
Pro street rules 🤟
The car that started the Pro Street movement. Significant in more ways than you have detailed here.
What an ICON!!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!! Timeless!!!! Thanks for sharing. Excellent video.
What an insane car this is. The guy who bought is the luckiest. Not a single place left where he didn't put his full effort.
Absolutely beautiful but, the only person that would buy it is a man that knows everything about it and how to repair it,
because who in the world do you know that you can take that it to for service, and you better hope the service is only minor, because of its history and the great quality of workmanship you will sell that car and get what you want for it.
Having said that, you do have many cars that fit me, something very fast, as they're called nowadays restoration modification or restomod, upgraded Motor suspension great radio interior and air conditioner, I am 56 so I want something from 65 to 75 preferably a GM, and this spring I will be there to see what you boys, great car.
Dale, you"ll love this. It's a beauty.
That looks so nice, I want one
That's a beautiful car
Very Very VERY Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love this Nova
Brings me to tears
We miss her for sure!
Wow! Mind officially blown!
thats art work there just beautiful car
Car MAY have been driven 2000 miles in 39 years. Museum piece... first of the 'pro-fairgrounds' high buck profilers.
i remember that car in the 80s i stll have the magazine pics in a folder
Me too! Was a young teen when i saw this in Car Craft? Glad its still the same as he built it. THe fact it has 2 holleys and not EFI I love!
imagine what it took to tune that beast
This was THE car that got pro street trend its start
@@gordocarbo I had a white 64 with teal interior straight 6 one of the few cars I left alone it was 100 % stock even the wheels 68K miles
See he left the dash alone, I love that all the gauges are underneath. I hate when the chop the dash!
Wow, is this the same Rick Dobbertin who built the crazy and outlandish flip bodied J2000 Pontiac back in the 80’s?
Yes this is the same car, owner
a work of art!
WOW.....I remember this car back in the 1980’s, it’s a piece of history, does any one know how much it sold for? , Probably 200,000 or more.....
Super Cool car and great walk around. Did the car sell ?
My wish list
Buy this NOVA and take it to any car show win 1st place then take back home put it in the garage shine it up then take to any show repeat for next ten years...........
This car has been sold at least 3or4 times since this
Hello Greg your car are very good
Nice ride sweet
This car would cause a riot at the Mecum auction as the bids went through the roof.
Bet the age of most those bidders have no clue about the car nor the owner
This thing is iconic
wouldn't hurt to post the price. We know it aint cheap
This is old this car is for sale today
If I hear the word sweet one more time, I'm gonna be a diabetic
Wonder what that front end weighs?
Sad seeing ignoramus negative comments from young goofs who have no clue about this car. Next youll read why not an ls.
THis car is hot rod history it put Pro Street on the map!
Car's are not females it's not a she it's a 1965 Chevy Nova
Joe we always give cars female names since the beginning of time Soo chill out man don't have a heart attack
They are female. How many times on a cold morning when you really need it, she won’t turn over!
it would drive you made cleaning that car lol
Quiet as a church mouse
strait tube axel in the front..Its a gasser LOL
all the motor is is a small block with a supercharger
No it is a big block with a super charger and twin turbo. All functioning.
Try watching the video next time.
Daniel Hill that's an insult to the master fabricator Rick Dobbertin who built it! the guy is a genius
Seen that at the very first Super Chevy show in 1983 at Maple Grove Raceway
