I understand your water tank analogy is for people with no understanding of a 12V system. But for someone like me who has some understanding (not an expert but just knowledge), the toing and froing between the analogy and Amps etc just made it sound more complicated than it really is. So much information to take in that's for sure and you could talk for hours if going into detail. Quick math to help those trying to work out their needs working on 12v, 1ah =12w so if your device draws say 36w it will use 3ah.
@Master Yoshi no dramas. The way I've learnt is what ever your voltage is that same number in watts = 1amp. So 240V systems have 240W/1amp while 12v system as 12w/1amp.
I did wanna say, she wasn't getting too technical at the 14:22 mark. She clearly explains why to start with the sprinkler, because it is the sprinkler that then determines the other parts of the process further up the chain. Without this clarity, we could go out and buy the wrong thing and be annoyed lol. Knowing the foundation makes someone like me (a potential buyer) wonder how better to determine what kind of sprinkler I require. The answer to the sprinkler question depends on the vision I have for camping and who I could become when camping (dubbed the customer journey). This is best answered by learning from other people's camping journeys and setup. Good stuff otherwise!

G'day I'm a hiker/e biker when I go camping sometimes I'm on foot sometimes I have my bike and a trailer with me but I want to focus on hiking for a moment could you guys go over some of the portable power solutions for hikers specifically in charging USB devices like power banks and mobile phones and torches I know there's some fold up solar mats on the market but online there's a lot of companies making outrageous claims and it's pretty hard to sort out who's selling a genuine product so it would be good if you guys could go through what makes a good portable solar solution for hiking.

My system works for me, I went from having no knowledge at all, to permanently installing everything myself, with the lowest price products. The fridge is probably going to be the biggest power user for most campers', so start from there. Now you know the absolute minimum battery size needed. I had a fixed panel, and a blanket, not enough. So now I have a fixed panel, which can angle up, heaps of power. If I was starting over, I would get solid folding panel to chase the sun, with 10m of lead.
You make that extremely difficult to listen to and you guys were even confused re the water tank and battery , do it again it’s simple If you read the screen it’s all there

Personally, I can't understand people wanting inverters. Everything I buy can be recharged or operated using 12v, with the exception of my electric toothbrush. My parents even have their cpap machines that charge/operate on 12V DC. The process of turning 12V DC back into 240V AC has a horrendous overhead. Just buy

Great episode guys, something to think about with electrical gear is also the start-up amperage as this needs to be added into the equation as welll, and that the water tank analergy is great for lithium, however maybe the tank has 50% baffles for AGM and other batteries.
Good point about the state of charge regarding AGM and flooded batteries. We left this out intentionally so as not to confuse things and more than we have perhaps confused them in this episode anyway. Cheers for your feedback. ~ Ben

We're trying to get out more in the off-peak seasons but want to be able to stay warm (a good contrasting episode to your Ep. 1 on staying cool!). - Camping in a fire ban. Good idea or completely avoid? How to cook/eat during fire bans (and tips for total vs partial as rules vary between states!).
i do the esky and bottle freezing trick last for days so i havent brought a fridge yet.....everyone just charges there phones off car charger or power banks and the lights lets not go there cause i win benny with me xmas fairy lights lol and headtorch set and luci lantern, gather familys need these setups compared to couples with no kids etc great video once again dont stop...ps hey producer i want longer show times please dont stop

I'm not convinced we got it right in this episode, Dan, but we we are responding to a lot of question we get from people who are new to 12V and solar, and if we start talking amps and watts straight out of the box they tend to get confused. Simplifying it into the water tank analogy helped me a lot in the beginning, but as I mentioned I don't think we delivered it as clearly as we had intended. Those who understand 12V and solar are likely to watch this and be a little bored, but stay tuned and we'll dig deeper into other topics in future episodes. I'm all for the blanket or flexible panels because they are more compact for transport, but either will do the job. It really depends on the space you have and how you will use it. ~ Ben
My uncles an electrician and one of my nieces got the nick name Sparkie back in the day. I like that pause at the 7min 50 sec point. I'm a little bit curious about Laurens out fit and the mention of sprinklers it reminds me of a QANTAS and Bens dressed as a guy who will never win the jack pot in the pokies lounge but defiantly looks fun to talk to.

But do you know what hose size you need to run two sprinklers? Hose size will also determine the water tank size and how much rain is required.
