I was a f2p player, it took me literally years of casual playing to max a single deck. I never really grinded hard, I used my own non-meta deck, which put me at a big disadvantage, I was already sick of loosing because I wanted to play for fun with my own deck instead of using meta. Then I heard the news of level 15, and I deleted the app. It took me so long just to be on a “level” playing field, and I’m never going to be on a level field again. It’s sad to see greed destroy another game I once loved, I just hope the same fate doesn’t happen to clash of clans.

@@IscAst4atleast you can skip the opponent while attacking if it's over level. Clash of clans is made for slow upgrade and long term. Only criticism would be war matchmaking.

Si dejas de jugar CR te quedas atrás, los oponentes de tu propia arena estarán en un nivel más alto, el grindeo que te toma literalmente MESES para obtener UNA sola evolución es absurdo, y en CoC el grindeo no es la base principal del juego y si dejas de hacerlo no te quedas atrás, en CR grindear para levelear cartas no es divertido y te pone en desventaja ante jugadores Pay to Win

I used to be quite far up in ultimate champion, quit for 1 year and I come back to absolute chaos, I can’t even get past champion now.
I’ve been playing for 7 years and I completely agree with the points addressed here. Despite having my deck all lvl14 cards, it is impossible if I use anything else since the level difference is so significant. Sad to see how much the game downgraded, would love to see it back in the top mobile charts like 2016.
100% I've played on/off for the past 6 years, my main deck is level 12-14, if I use any other deck I'll lose bcs my other cards are lvl

It’s actually ridiculous. I played Clash Royale since September 2016. I’ve seen the good, the bad, and ugly with this game. When Royal Giant came out, I didn’t complain. When Elite Barbs came out, I didn’t complain. When Firecracker came out, I didn’t complain. I’ve grinded up to about 4800 trophies, back when the cap was 5000 trophies. Then Level 15 came out, and I was grinding ladder, and get beaten by a Level 15 Elite Firecracker against my complete Level 14 deck-the same one I’ve used in tournaments and always did well with. I said okay, fine. How do I get a Level 15 card myself? MONEY. Otherwise, It would take RAW MONTHS of grinding nonstop to get just ONE card to Level 15. I had enough. I was the number 2 in my clan (second oldest member) which existed since 2018 and it always stayed active. I apologized to the clan and deleted the game on the spot. Haven’t even touched the game or anything Clash Royale related until this video. I hope Supercell learns their lesson, or else this trend of vet players deleting the game will then turn into new players becoming discouraged as they move up the ladder and deleting it too.
The interesting thing about boycotting level 15 (which i support) is that SC has already factored it into their plans. They claim that level 15 is not meant for everyone. It’s just for those individuals who play for progression. They also claim it’s meant to take a very, very long time. So when they see no one upgrading to 15, they’ll see it as working according to plan. There will be some players, who know nothing of the boycott, upgrading a card here or there to level 15, and they’ll say, “See, not everyone has to upgrade to 15. It didn’t break the game.”
I think a more effective boycotting strategy would be for players to not spend any money on the game, and to collectively not log into the game. Because ultimately, that’s what SC wants to avoid. They don’t care if you’re mad or glad, so long as you log in and spend money on the game.

One major thing B-rad (nor any other content creator on this issue I've listened to) didn't mention was that upgrading a card to level 15 gives 50,000 experience points which is insane compared to all the other methods of getting them. Upgrading a card to 14 gives 2,000 so upgrading a card to 15 would be the same as upgrading 25 cards to level 14. Obviously buying elite wild cards will get you to king tower level 15 in no time, another unfair advantage.
I feel that being underleveled in king tower levels is worse than card levels, as atleast cards require SOME form of skill, while the king towers are just a direct increase.

Respectful articulation of the level problem & accurate! Evolutions (when they’re balanced) and new fun content are a massive W but level 15 feels like a massive unnecessary grind to me. Wish we got the new content without the level - that’d be the update everyone wants 🤝

What the devs really need to do is shift for a new business model. Everyone throughout the lifespan of this game have been telling them that levels just don't work with this game.
However, tower skins, princess arrows skins (imagine your towers shooting cool lava or ice shards instead of the boring arrows), and custom arenas are all INSANELY lucrative ways to sell for the premium players. They just want to stick with P2W for some reason though.

You either grind everyday as a f2p to reach a goal that keeps on going further, or you pay in which you "rent" a maxed out collection for some time until it eventually vanishes with a new added level. It's just beyond unfair.
Fortnite is still going hard after all these years yet their main business model is nothing but cosmetics. Nothing unfair about it.

@@IPlayGamesMate They could literally fix so many CW2 issues just by locking the King Level to 11, spacing out the war days a little to make it non-tedious, having only 2 river races instead of 3 so that if you're up against clans that are impossible to win against, it'll end quicker, as well as not having to rely on having as many people as possible in your clan, which would be trickier to fix but is possible.
Edit: Oh I forgot. Also make it so that a player HAS to contribute in some way to earn the chest instead of just winning one match. I'd say make each player get at least 1500 medals and 2-4 wins. I'm saying this cause I'm tired of seeing the Leader in my clan rightfully having to kick people because they just play one match to get all the sweet rewards.

After 7 years, playing though all game modes, through all seasons, making my way to being maxed out on level 14 and supporting and pushing my clan to top10 local I've stoped playing this game. ITS WAY easier to get 35,000 total commons than it is to get 12,000 of a very specific common
Plus your additional Rares, Epics, Legendaries, and champions also give you a ton of Elite Wild Cards

the game has always been glorified gambling aimed at kids. The fact that people were ever ok with the games monetization is disturbing
I think what mostly pushed the developers to make this nonsense decision is the fact that a lot of players will see themselves not having any other choice but to spend money into the game to have their cards upgraded. Money is clearly the purpose of changes coming from people that don't know the game.
I really appreciate you using your channel to spread this message.
As a side note, I'm a 25-year-old with a full-time union job. I'm happy to support this game by contributing a small portion of my income. However, I wish the game developers would provide alternative ways to support the game through cosmetics and other means that do not impact its balance. Currently, I have almost every card at level 14, and I regularly purchase the gold pass and the new diamond pass. I also buy emotes from the store that Iike. I look forward to new cosmetics and cards.
However, I find this update to be appalling. Requiring players to spend money in order to have a fair gameplay experience is detrimental to the overall health of any competitive game. Games like Valorant, League of Legends, and Dota 2 have implemented successful monetization strategies without compromising the competitive integrity of the game. Personally, I have invested money in these games by purchasing season one Valorant skins and acquiring almost every immortal or arcana in Dota 2. None of these purchases have negatively affected other players experiences.
There are numerous ways to monetize a game with hundreds of thousands of users that would not harm the game's integrity. Unfortunately, the current approach taken by the developers is not a good one. I play this game every day, and it helps me survive 10 hours of work. I actively strive to obtain the legendary chest from clan wars every week and I enjoy the challenge of reaching the ultimate champion status or winning my first 12-round grand challenge.
As an adult, I am willing to spend money on this game. However, I refuse to do so if it means compromising the health and competitive integrity of the game. I do not want to face opponents with under-leveled cards; I want to earn my medals through skill and be respected as a player. I don't want to be taken advantage of or have an unjust amount of my income drained just to have a fair playing field. I have invested a significant amount of time and money to maximize my cards so that I can compete on equal footing with other players and enjoy a fair game.

honestly thanks to b-rad who after all those bad updates we’ve been getting still cares a lot about this game and is willing to do anything to save the game he loves
as a player who stepped away from the game in late 2022 due to college, ive come back to a game where every new mechanic and update seems to be motivated by money. they can charge for evo shards, pass royale having 2 levels and being worse even when you pay $12, and then $70 offers to max one card in the shop! these sorts of monetization are outrageous in actual games, but a mobile game like clash royale can get away with it somehow. it doesnt make it less absurd. seeing that level 15 takes months to achieve, with it still providing a competitive advantage just seems to benefit players willing to spend hundreds on the game, while leaving the larger playerbase out to dry. it just hurts man. this was the best mobile game id seen in my life in 2020. but the last 4 years have seen it sliding into a more pay to win and whale based monetization. I payed for pass royale when it was $5, and had those amazing value items like the magic coin and book of books. now i dont even see the point in paying for the more expensive pass for even less. its just toxic.
This was an established trend since the beginning. I played the game when level 9 was the highest, they raised it to 10 and so forth. I'm kind of appalled that it took this long to be called out. Its also the reason why I quit because I could see this becoming a problem.
Let's all stand together and don't upgrade our cards like b-rad. Get the community together and it will 100% work. Cut off their income.

u make this game look so enjoyable and fun but these last couple months i havent been able to see the fun in this absolute grindfest. im so glad you spoke up for us average players who dont wanna drop thousands of dollars or wait years to unlock all levels.
I stopped playing CR in 2018. I won almost no prize money and never streamed, so I couldn't really afford P2W. I ended up buying an account with level 11/12 cards for $100 and got a deck of commons and rares to level 13 under a lot of grind. In total, I spent maybe 200 dollars to be able to play a single deck of commons and rares at max level. Why did I stop? Because I was bored with my own deck, because I had to choose between competition and variety. Why I never came back? About a year later level 14 was released and now I stumble across your video and hear about Champion Cards and level 15. It's a pity, but Supercell doesn't bring old players back, they actually prevent them from giving the game a fresh start.

I just decided to play clash royale again for the first time in probably 2 years on a bored whim. When I left I just finished upgrading all the cards I wanted to 14, I enjoyed it a long time, the champion update dropped and I kind of fizzled out because, as a free to play player, I didn’t see myself reasonably being able to level those cards, and I just wasn’t feeling inspired to grind out the champions. I just come back to the game, and now there’s a level 15 that’s even harder to achieve than the whole champion thing, on top of that there’s the card evolutions. I don’t know enough about the evolution thing to call it pay to win, but I was playing in the tournament standard ladder, I was in a log bait mirror match, and the other dudes knight was just objectively better than mine because he had the evolution and I didn’t. I don’t understand what the point of a tournament standard mode is if the playing levels aren’t equal, I was hoping that I could still use an evolution in that ladder because it would make the game *fair* but instead I’m just put in a losing position because I don’t want to spend 12 dollars or whatever to unlock the evolution. I guess I decided to give clash another try at an awful time, and everything they added since champions feels very anti user and nothing like the game at launch.
Same. I just started playing again as well after 2-3 years and the game is still fun. I love playing it but the upgrading to level 15 is so annoying. I was so confused at first and then I realized you have to collect elite wild cards. I was wondering why it's taking so long to collect enough then I came across this video. The thing I loved about Supercell is how the games are truly free to play but it's sad to see how they are no longer like that.
Im happy to see that he is one of the few youtubers that actually stuck to what he said about not upgrading his cards, other youtuber who also play clash and said they wouldn't upgrade were just riding the train to be with everyone else, but now they are even buying the offers clash royale puts out for fragments and cards

Utter disgusting cash grab. Played since launch, even went through the 13-14 madness, bought all the pass royales every month + gems. 15 got announced, I dropped CR instantly.
Sadly though, what the community and what the players want, aren't going to make them as much money as forcing everyone to upgrade their cards. It's because they know we have no choice but to pay in order to stay competitive. Unfortunately at the end of the day, Supercell is a business.

Thats exactly how i feel. When i picked up the game after not playing for years i was severely underleveled. I didnt have a problem beating people similar level or slightly higher but when i tried beating a level 14 card as a level 11 it became completely impossible to ever climb. As a completely f2p player, i just quit because level 14 mega knight would just 1 shot any attempt at ever pushing the enemy.
That’s really messed up, but I really think that if they divided it by 10 (5000 elite wild cards) it would hypothetically take 1y for the average player, and I really think that’s a great balance for the “grinding” that they want
I havent played the game in quite some time. But I know its serious when Brad steps forward, he knows the game in and out so much, I mean look at the background of his set. Definitely wouldn't work. The whole appeal of watching b-rad videos is that he's a pro player that understands the game on an insane level, but plays ridiculous decks and challenges. If he switched to another game, sure he might still be funny, but he'd just be another casual and 90% of his subscribers wouldn't watch another video

Pokémon Go did the same thing with XL candy. Everyone used to be able to max out their mons with 248 candy. They changed it to needing 296 XL candy that have a 1:100 conversion rate

I already gave them 40-60 bucks and I have been playing for 4 years 1600 wins at 7000 trophies and I can’t play with any deck at max while I’ve been playing the same deck for years to level it up
I respect B-rad so much now. His stand by not upgrading is commendable and he is completely right that they add nothing and how none of us like adding new levels. Level 14 wasn’t fun for me when it was added, but at least champions were added and the added progression wasn’t even as close as level 15 will add. This is so awful and I worry about the game. I am excited for card evolutions, but also am worried we won’t get new cards anymore. Like it’s been nearly a year since they released a new card.
Not to mention that to go to fully max (again) might cost another few thousand (more) dollars, if the update math is correct.

@@orcrist484 dude are you insane? If you simply play the game consistently, and buy the high value items, you can be fully maxed with well under $100. It’s good to see some actual progression being added, instead of here, play for a couple of weeks and get maxed again
B-rad, I’ve always admired you for being one of the most skilled, charismatic, and captivating individuals in the community. I’ve progressively distanced myself from the game over the years as I’ve been F2P for about 2 years and now play the game sporadically. It’s impressive how long you’ve been able to stick with this game and continue to be relevant after so many of your colleagues like Surgical Goblin and Chief Pat have moved on. Recently, the game has gotten into a concerning state, with card releasing being 2-3 times per year and the destruction of progression through the new pass royale, level 14 and now this, the game really is on its last legs. What the devs need to realize is that we’re a very passionate and patient player base, who’s willing to wait for major changes for the future of the game. I’m sure so many people can attest to every point you’ve made and I think if we can make a stand here, the game might finally take a few steps in the right direction. Thank you so much for discussing while other creators just covered the new content!

I used to play Clash Royale, from 2016 (Basically day one of Android release) to ~2018, I maxed my deck and got into the National Leaderboard while also being in one of the best clans of my country, after a mix of being bored and my phone breaking I stopped playing
Even though I don't play I have the game installed I tend to see what's is added year to year, I have to say that from an outsider perspective this game is going down hill
In the meantime I've played different multiplayer games, this past year or so I've been playing War Thunder, as a basic review, a military game with Tanks, Aircrafts and ships, you have to research them and have a currency that is used to buy them (once you finish researching them), to not make it too long, the Game Devs have been making progression harder and harder through the years, up to the point that buying a premium account is almost a necessity to progress
In an update ~a month ago they were going to implement some changes that would make the game significantly more grindy, the community was understandably enraged by this, they complained in the official forums by it was to no avail (Devs generally don't listen to the community unless it benefits them) so in the Game's subreddit a review bombing campaign begun, this review bombing campaign quickly expanded (also aided by a terrible and completely disconnected from the community blog post by one of the Main Devs) and the game reached "Overwhelmingly Negative" on Steam (Over 85k negative reviews posted in less than a week), with even the biggest content creator (that all are in a afiliate program which directly benefits them) talking and supporting the player base, some days after the game reached "Overwhelmingly Negative" the devs said that the changes were going to be reverted and that in Early June they would publish a roadmap to improve things
But what am I trying to say with this? It seems that Clash Royale is in a similar situation, far less severe but War Thunder also begun by similar things; I don't know how effective review bombing would be in a game so big and (I would assume) with a far higher kids percentage in the player base, but if enough people put a 1 start rating then the Devs will listen (as far as I know, low reviews directly impact how much the game is recommended)
TLDR: If a successful review bombing campaign is done by the Clash Royale community then the Devs will be forced to, at least, listen to the complaints
I love Clash Royale so much and this is insane. I won’t upgrade a single card to level 15, but honestly I don’t think I could even if wanted to for at least a few months.

From my point of view, I think that the Dev team should do more like brawl stars, where they stopped at level 11 for a while and they helped the middle player base to grind for the two new levels ( I know they are totally different games and they have different core needs, but I still think It would be better and more exciting than this "update").

great video! wake up devs, play your own game, and listen to your players, because you only exist because of us. I haven't played in a while, and this does not make me want to get back in at all. Usually updates draw me back, but this is so far in the opposite direction. I stopped playing when level 14 came out, cause I was never going to upgrade all my cards, and now they add 15! Unbelievable! Players want to be maxed in order to have a fair fight, and they are just making it harder for players to get want they want. Like he said, add more cards, not levels! I personally don't see why we ever needed to go beyond level 13! The game doesn't change with more levels, it just makes it harder to play as a lower level. They should never add another level! EVER!
Played since the beginning with some pauses in between and the main reason why I don't play it or only play against friends is because of levels. You can have a decent level 13 deck and the enemy would smash you by brainlessly spamming max leveled 5+ elixir cards

Like champions were meant to be the highest value cards, now evolutions come in with unrealistic requirements, and in another 2 years champions will feel like legendaries because we will get some other new rarity of card that makes progression even harder for all players.
You can get a champ for free by playing 10 min a day for a month

well here we are... a month later. I just came back to the game after not playing for 3 years. I was under the impression that level 14 was still. the max level from what I had heard. I pushed some trophies grinded a bit and there it was. With a book of epics and 100k gold I upgraded my Golem to level 14. Only to then see the 0 out of 50 thousand. Then I learned about level 15 and eventually found this video. To say I am upset would be sugarcoatting it. I have been playing Clash Royale since the Beta with my friend when we were still in elementary school and now I see the game I was once in love with in ruin.
Your idea of them having the players do surveys actually sounds brilliant. They could do a quick 1 question survey: "Do you want another card level added to the game?" And it would be that easy for them to find out how wrong their "data" is. If they cared about the community's opinions, they wouldn't have thought to add in a new card level in the first place, especially after all the backlash they got when they announced it

I completely agree. IMO, if we look at this from the "bright" side, it is a grind sink that makes sure that players always have something to upgrade in their cards that matter. However, with players being able to purchase elite wild cards for coins/gems/money, this balance is thrown off with players paying their way to a full lvl 15 deck, whereas someone who only spent naturally unlocked elite cards would barely have a few lvl 15s.
Yeah and honestly like maxing a deck to level 14 still takes a while. I played for years and had 1 and a half decks at level 14 and I bought pass Royale probably 10+ times. I always wished I could play a deck other than my main on ladder, but in my literal 4 plus years of playing I was only able to at most swap a couple cards for more meta options.
I'm just really happy to see the whole CR community come together and protest against the absurd decisions.

Drew is on record as saying that 8% support of player base was enough to justify lvl 15. Those still playing yet not upgrading cards are just providing a player base for the dumbasses that will gladly line SC pockets. They won't get the message unless ppl stop playing. Uninstall is the only true message that SC will see.
