@@NataliaPessoaXOXOMAKE I hate to admit...I have some MAC lipsticks that are at least 15 years old and I still wear them AGAINST all wisdom and recommendations. They don't smell bad, haven't dried up, glide as well as they did when they were new, and the color has not changed. Russian Red and Diva are two of them.
Another avid Mac lipstick wearer here… thank you for this vid! In my own daily use, I notice touch-ups with the new formula don’t get as gunky and thick as the old formula did. For me, this makes it much easier to wear! (Russian red is my go-to shade)
I don't even buy Mac, but I'm invested in your Mac journey and needed this chapter. Super pleased for you that you don't have to deal with a limited supply of your faves. No one likes that ride!
If I'm nitpicking I'd say that the new ones look like they are slightly lighter / less intense of color when just applied. They are close, but I like the original Lady Danger a bit more, the color seems to pop a little more. Later in the day I can't see a difference anymore though. I'm so glad they didn't ruin the formula!
I ordered my very first MAC lipstick today! I had a couple in my favourites and ended up getting Forever Curious as that particular shade was 50% off. I'm so excited about this.
I have been so excited for this video, and I am not even a matte lipstick wearer. LOL. I just love when Kat takes a deep dive into comparing products, -especially considering her personal invstment in this case 💓
My theory is that it would cost more if they keep working with the old formula. I guess the manufacturing process and raw materials now are quite different from when it first came out. Sometimes the processes or manufacturing facilities are just too out of date, they have no choice but modernizing/evergreening things. They wouldn't really risk one of their best selling products unless there is no choice. Anyway it is just my speculation, I think the same rule applied across different industries in general.
Yes. I completely agree! I should have been a bit more clearer about that, but that’s also what I was trying to say when I said they are likely modifying the formula ☺️
I feel like since MAC is such a cult favorite makeup and truly the most collectible with a giant fan base....that MAC really should at least give an official statement as to the reason for the reformulation decision.
Kat when you first swatched the new lady danger I was thinking it’s not the same, there will be hell to pay lol then you went over it and it was exactly the same - phew 😅 for all who love the shades, great vid 😊❤
I purchased one yesterday Twig twist and it’s a pretty mauvy color. My sister bought Keep Dreaming and it’s a deep rose with blue undertones, her favorite color to wear. We swatched quite a few at Ulta and boy was I surprised when I went to wipe them off they left a stain, had to use a makeup wipe to get it off. It’s been a long time since I’ve purchased a lipstick from them. Cant wait to get more when Ulta gets them all in testers. They had about half in testers.❤💄💋
Grateful you did this. I was skeptical at first thinking oh they reformulated for cheaper ingrdients (shrinkflation) and worried the quality would suffer. Glad to see I was wrong.
A lot of these companies are reformulating because the EU keeps passing laws making certain ingredients illegal in cosmetics due to the "clean beauty" push. In order to continue selling to that market, which is significant, the products need to be compliant. This is why Chanel reformulated their famous bronzer and blushes, and why many people believe they perform so terribly compared to the originals. The newer ingredients (or combinations of ingredients) don't always have the same performance ability. Glad your favorite lipstick seems to be safe from the reformulation curse. 😊
Wow, I have never used these lipsticks and decided to buy one after seeing your video. What a beautiful lipstick. I’ve been looking for a nice red a can wear and not think about the lipstick and this fits the bill. I’m so impressed about this formula. I think I’m a fan now, there is no need to buy other formulas.
So glad to see this, and happy for everyone who uses these colours. I never felt this was a move to cheapen the lipsticks, at least not at the expense of quality/finish for the customer, I just felt they were updating the formula because technology has changed and improved. That being said I was very weary of the results and I’m happy to see they kept true to the originals. I’m still concerned about my favourite, Ruby Woo, since it was a different formula and absolutely flat finish, which I actually loved. Oh, and side note: I’m actually happy they didn’t put magnets in the packaging. It’s a frivolous change to make things “feel luxurious” that renders the packaging impossible to recycle in most places. If it’s not refillable, I’m more than happy that the lipstick case has just a click closure.
I'm incredibly protective of both of these shades, especially Lady Danger and have been dreading any possible changes they've made. Couldn't wait for your video to break the news😅
Loved the video! I started getting into Mac lipsticks at the beginning of last year and I'm now obsessed, I would love to see you try whirl in this new formula!
So glad you did this! My favorite red ever is MAC Viva Glam 1 which I was terrified they were reformulating. They changed the name to Viva Heart but hopefully the rest of it is the same.
Great review, I’ve fallen in love with MAC lipsticks over the past 18 months. I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts about the new Velvet Teddy collection..
OMG🤩 I’ve been waiting for a proper review and wear test on the new Macximal lipsticks for weeks. At least I’m convinced I don’t have to buy backups for Ruby Woo. Too bad that some fave shades they don’t make with the new formula like Please Me and Runaway Hit😕
Hooray! So glad it's still as good & not twice the price. I agree, I think they probably wanted to modernise their basic lipsticks to keep up with everyone else as there's so much more competition for them these days.
Appreciate this in depth comparison so much and I feel so relieved! I love Taupe, its my perfect everyday colour and I was worried when they announced the change. Thanks to this video I'm not ❤. I also think I'll give warm teddy a go, as velvet teddy was always a touch too light for me. I'm curious how warm teddy compares to taupe
I just get my new formula of Kinda Sexy. ive been using this color for most of my life. When i tried the new formula, i just want to cry 😭 it’s not the same as before, the color, the texture. If i knew they gonna change it, i will buy the previous formula for my stock
Been waiting for this ❤ My favourite shades Viva Glam I and Viva Glam II have gone. They do have similar new Viva shades but still. I hope they bring back the smaller/mini bullets too but this video is good news oh and I think I might need warm teddy
I bought the new shade they put out for Viva Glam I. Viva Glam 1 is my favorite red. I don’t think they look the same on me. The new one doesn’t look as matte on my lips, is a little more sheer, and there is slightly less brown in the new shade vs the original. I can see how some people might not care or even notice, but this has been my favorite red for over a decade and I wear it a lot. I immediately went looking for a few backups of the original before they are gone forever.
Great review. Thanks. However my old Velvet Teddy is a totally different colour to the new one The Original Velvet Teddy had peachier and pinky accents whereas the new one is way cooler and doesn't suit me at all.
thanks for this video! velvet teddy is my all-time favourite lipstick and i got sad to see that it's unavailable where i am (is it discontinued?). i'm happy to know that it's same as the og!
I’m glad they have reformulated. I was starting to feel the MAC lipsticks were getting outdated considering their recent price increases. I was starting to move away from my MAC and get other high end/ luxury brands. I am really excited to try the new mac lipstick now
I am a fan of the retro matte Ruby woo. She is my go to color and I always get compliments when I wear her. How would you compare the matte to the new Macxmillion. I think my main question would be does it still pop like Ruby woo matte. Also does it crumble. That is my only drawback with matte even if I use the primer at some point I have to wipe it completely off and moisturize then reapply. Do I have to do that with Macxmillion. I want the matte look but with a moisturized feel. Not as dry as the matte but still popping and dynamic. I am needing pros and cons bc it's Black Friday and I'm about to stock up. Should I get my tried and true matte? Or take the risk with the new Macxmillion. If I do take the risk. I want to make sure it still has that ruby woo matte look. With less of the crumble when my lips dry out. Please let me know your thoughts. Ultimately I have learned to live with my Ruby woo matte. We have formed a relationship and understand each other. Sometimes we have to take a break and readjust. But if Macxmillion can just do it without the readjustment maybe I've found a new bestie. Let me know. I'm nervous bc Ruby woo matte is my main squeeze. She just sometimes has to be wiped off completely and reapplied. It would save me a little time if I could just eliminate that wipe off reapply regimen but still have that ruby woo matte look with ms. Macxmillion. I did not think I was going to get this lengthy about a tube of lipstick but my cart is calling and black Friday is only but so long. Waiting for your reply. Thanks for everything.
I've decided I need MAC lipsticks now after like, 30 years. I can tell you exactly what's happened here. Young people/clean beauty. They've removed paraffin (NoT cLeAn) and added in NaTuRaL shea butter, coco butter (highly comedogenic) and coconut oil (ditto).
These are not going on my lips with that in it. Daily use of cocoa butter and coconut oil will, without a shadow of a doubt, give me vermillion border lip blackheads.
Girl….i couldn’t wait for this. I’m a Mac lipstick girl too. I bought my first one, after I got my first grown up job at 21. That was 20 years ago. I’m a huge fan of their reds. I love Russian Red and Ruby Woo. I like Velvet Teddy too. I own a tube of it and I wear it occasionally. But, I have other nudes I like better, from other brands. It tends to pull purple-ish on me. Also…I can see why you love the original Velvet Teddy. I think it looks stunning on you and it’s the best out of the three.
Might need to head in store and swatch Warm Teddy. Velvet Teddy is too pink on me but the newer shade looks like it might work better for me 😊 Also, just wondering if you’ve tried the shade Marrakesh-meh? It’s a really nice spicy red/orange shade
Hi! No I haven't tried that shade, it looks super pretty but I rarely wear spicy red/orange shades, 99% of the time I will reach for a bright shade instead haha
I was expecting something more spectacular than pretty mutch the same formula and a heavier package, concidering the price increase compared to the old formula. I'm stocking up on the old ones while I can. Sadly not impressed at all. Very thankful for this review though!
That’s fair, they aren’t for everyone. As a MAC matte lipstick fan, if they changed it too much from the original, they would upset people like me, we want the same formula and effect. They have released more lux formulas in recent years so there’s plenty of other matte comfortable, long wear options to try if this doesn’t impress you (I recommend the powder kiss velvet blur), but I still prefer this one. If you consider the extra product you’re getting, it’s actually a price *decrease*, so there’s not much to be unimpressed about from my perspective
I went on the first of march to the store and swatched all the shades I already have in the new formula. Surpisingly all the shades are the same. I don't think I could pick up the vanilia scent but maybe that's just me
Warm Teddy is like the autumnal version of Velvet Teddy on you, so pretty. They all suit you. It looks like the bullet on the new one is up from 3g to 3.5g of product… but the price probably reflects that as it’s $2 more than the old version. Not bad given today’s constant price hikes on everything.
I was nervous Mac would screw up the formula. If your pleased then it seems like they did their jobs. All of them look great on you. I really liked warm teddy on you.
When comparing same shades to pick up the difference in formulas or even dupes, you never connect one side to the other to be able to tell the subtle differences in colour. You must leave some space in the middle, to make the difference noticeable.
I personally think having them right up next to each other shows how different or close they really are ☺️ I didn’t overlap them, so there’s no muddling
I will say lady danger with the night shift (yellow) filter on the new one is slightly more orange and lighter, but wouldn’t notice in person probably.
I need to check Warm Teddy. Velvet Teddy washes me out as it is slightly too light and turns a bit orange on me. My go to shade with Mac is Twig and Brick O'La but that is not a matte.
On the subject of inflation, Mac lipsticks are actually one of the few make up items that sell better during financial hard times, so I almost wonder if they timed this release to bring it back to the forefront of consumers minds as we hit this level of wealth disparity.
Have you noticed any weirdness from the coconut oil in the new formula? It breaks me out and that’s the only thing keeping me from buying. Lady Danger is my favorite red lipstick too!
I haven't personally, but I haven't experienced any break outs from coconut oil being in lip products. I avoid it generally on my face because it occasionally breaks my skin out, but my lips can handle it fine. If you have noticed that you get breakouts around your lips from it being in lip products, I would avoid it
I have silicone lipsticks, but sadly I can't wear them in winter here when the polar cold + indoor heating leads to RH 20% dry air. The silicone formulas are fine in summer when it is hot and humid. The old MAC formula is just moisture-creamy enough to cut it in winter, is *just* wearable, with maybe a top-off with lip balm a few hours later. By contrast, the silcone layer has to be off or lip balm doesn't penetrate. I am not going to buy a lipstick that is wearable mainly in summer for me. The old formula provided that moisture top-off, and I go through these old MACs in a couole months. Your review has clarified for me that I will get YSL Rouge Pur Couture instead, a more creamy moisture formula. Thanks so much! 💄🩵
@@cwynn1547 Luckily these aren’t silicone based lipsticks, that was what people were assuming based on the bullet when they were first shown, but they are the same consistency as the original ones, just thinner. if you like the original formula, you will like this one too
Thank very much for your review. As someone who loves brown tonnes lipstick, do you recommend the velvet teddy warm? Or just the original colour? Thank you.
Hi! It really depends on your skin tone and how brown you like your lipstick. I personally like nudes that have more of a brown tone (vs pink, peach or mauve), but I don’t personally use darker brown shades very often. If you like a lighter lipstick but want something more brown than Velvet Teddy, I would recommend another shade, maybe Yash. But if you like deeper nudes with warm tones, then Warm Teddy might be a good option ❤️
In my region the MACximal matte lipsticks are priced 10 € more than the old mattes. So while I'm happy they didn't ruin the lipsticks with the new formula, that price gap is horrendous. If I check the American MAC site there's not such a price difference.
I've been waiting for this! I hope they will bring back the mini's. I don't want the (now even bigger) full-size ones. They take too long to finish.
I have never had a MAC lipstick go bad. Some I have had for years

It looks like the bullet on the new one is up from 3g to 3.5g of product… but the price probably reflects that as it’s $2 more than the old version. Not bad given today’s constant price hikes on everything.
😂 Commented too soon.
Hello,
Can you say what palette and shades you used on you eyes please ? It’s beautiful
Great video as usual xxx
2024 I love it I have been waiting on it ❤❤❤❤❤❤
may i ask what eyeshadow you’re wearing in the first bit of the video? satin taupe? 🤔
It’s a Bobbi Brown single called Gilded Rose ❤️
thank you! its beautiful on you! 💗
yes i needed that video the ONLY lipstick i wear is Mehr
I was nervous Mac would screw up the formula. If your pleased then it seems like they did their jobs.
All of them look great on you. I really liked warm teddy on you.
You look so beautiful! Wonder Woman!
In uk it’s gone up £3.00 so it’s more than the original
Still cheaper when you break it down per gram
I would be worried that if VT looks a bit orange on you, this might look very orange on you. Worth a swatch in store though ❤
I wonder also if the new packaging and moulds etc are harder to fake too so it’s easier to spot a fake ?
Yep! They would definitely be harder to fake!
Also what is the AWESOME 🤩mint colour on your nails?

On the subject of inflation, Mac lipsticks are actually one of the few make up items that sell better during financial hard times, so I almost wonder if they timed this release to bring it back to the forefront of consumers minds as we hit this level of wealth disparity.
I do remember that fact, I think it was lipstick sales in general went up during a recession, not specifically Mac.
If you have noticed that you get breakouts around your lips from it being in lip products, I would avoid it
@@KitschSnitch I’ve never had it in a lip product before so we’re going to experiment I guess 😂
@@cwynn1547 Luckily these aren’t silicone based lipsticks, that was what people were assuming based on the bullet when they were first shown, but they are the same consistency as the original ones, just thinner. if you like the original formula, you will like this one too
What eyeshadow are you wearing here? It looks fantastic.
It’s a Bobbi Brown eyeshadow called Gilded Rose ❤️
Muito obrigada pelo vídeo! Ajudou super na compra
I wish they didn’t touch the viva glam’s 😢❤ glam 1 was different and the perfect balanced red.
Very helpful 🙂
I want to know if the more drying ones like ruby woo are similar 🤔
I was tempted to buy Ruby Woo, but I no longer have the original to compare it too because mine dried out
Thank very much for your review.
@@KitschSnitch sane here, I like nudes with brown tone, anything with pink undertone get passed on to my family or friends.
Google search swatches of Yash vs Velvet Teddy. Yash is a newer find for me (I think I got it earlier last year) and I love it!
@@KitschSnitch thank you, I will have look ❤️
Completely unrelated to the video, but what polish are you wearing? It’s such a fun colour!

In my region the MACximal matte lipsticks are priced 10 € more than the old mattes. So while I'm happy they didn't ruin the lipsticks with the new formula, that price gap is horrendous. If I check the American MAC site there's not such a price difference.
That’s a hefty price increase
