Really appreciate the explanation behind your choice. In your opinion, which device offers the best pads AND allows performance without tethering to a DAW (i.e. built-in samples and balanced audio out)?
@@ShamanRula sorry I saw this so late if it helps any tho I love mine, I've had it like 6 years. VERY sensitive pads, I have a maschine maschine mk2 mini but I prefer the MPD when I'm finger drumming.
You can get new drums for under $300, especially electronic ones, especially in third-world countries like here in the Philippines (I was born and raised in America).
Nice video, i have a maschine mk3, people said the sensitivity of the pads btw mikro mk3 vs mk3 vs plus is different. U really thing is the same sensitivity ?
In my experience, the pads are exactly the same on both. I've owned 2 different Maschine MK3s and 3 different Mikro MK3s over the years, and the pads are always consistent for me.
Have you ever tried a Zendrum? They are great, I used to play on one. Very good sensitivity and control, I’m not sure if any pads match it, but I haven’t played a maschine yet. Don’t have it anymore, considering getting one again, or maybe one of these.
This is a great point, however, Robert Mathis from Quest For Groove made a video on his channel where he replaced his Maschine pad sensors with a new sheet from MPC Stuff, and it was actually worse than his used stock sheet. He ended up switching them back at the end of the video! ruclips.net/video/jP63znVEUJ4/видео.html
You mean mk3 pads are different from micro pads? I had weird feeling about my mk3, like 1 pad was a bit loose and had to exchange it for different copy..
As of right now, yes! I still use a Mikro MK3 myself and haven't found anything yet that beats it in terms of pad quality. If I did find anything better, I would immediately start using it and probably make a new video recommending it.
Does pressure sensitivity matter in addition to velocity or is that marketing? Do you know of any good options that are pocketable - like just thr 8 pads and a couple small controls?
If you can't get the MK3, the MK2 still has fantastic pads! The pads on the MK3 are a little bigger so they're easier and smoother to play, but I had a Maschine Mikro MK2 for several years as my first finger drumming controller and it was awesome. I'd say go for it!
Thank you so much, im not a finger drummer actually, its for beatmaking purpose, im more interested in the pads and DAW than anything else.@@DragonFingerDrums
I found presonus atom really good and really cheap. Have you tried it out? What you think about it? I think personally atom is the most underrated pad controller. Lack of prestige killed it...
Hello! Very clear video! If i have a maschine mk3 mikro and my computer (a mac for example) do I need anything else? Like a soundcard or any other hardware? Thanks!!
Maschine MK3 micro is the best professional pad: beat making for the price ever!!!! It’s exactly the same as the maschine MK3 fully but only without the 2 screens! And fewer knobs. So for the price you can’t find better than for absolutely sure!
I've only tried the Push 2 a couple times, I don't love the pad sensitivity but it's not horrible, for me the worst part is the small pads though. There are definitely some finger drummers who play really well with the small 64-pad controllers, because that's what they started with. I really love the big pads of the Maschine because I can use multiple fingers on one pad really quickly, even do flams on a single pad. It also gives more space so you don't accidentally hit 2 pads at once, and to me it feels more like I'm hitting little drums as opposed to the tiny pads on the Push. So I would recommend the Maschine Mikro as my first choice!
@Tinnchow ended up with the launchpad x and I'm satisfied. I hated the maschine and everything it stood for. Not a user friendly device and made me think less of native instruments lol
Does anyone know if this Maschine Mikro will work seamlessly with XLN XO Drums / Addictive Drums. I knows the question was asked earlier, but there was no reply! Thanks everyone!!
Yes, the Maschine Mikro works perfectly as a MIDI controller for Addictive Drums, that's the exact software that I use for almost all of my finger drumming!
I haven't personally tried the Aura, but in the reviews I've seen it seems that the Maschine pads are still preferred by folks who do realistic finger drumming. I can't speak from my own experience though!
Dude! your finger drumming sense and aesthetics is amazing....You're a gifted drummer...I had a question though why have you stopped using the MK3? in your recent videos I only see you using the Mikro version which still sounds great but is there any specific reason or a bug or any kinda problem with MK3? I was looking forward buying MK3 but just froze and thought I can't a better suggestion from you...let me know brother...keep up the great work! 🙌
Thanks so much for the kind words! I honestly just switched to the Mikro because it’s smaller, the only feature I use on the Maschine is the pads themselves so I don’t need any of the additional features. Considering that I travel a lot it made more sense for me to use a Mikro, but both controllers are equally great with the same pads, the full size MK3 just has more software control features that I don’t need.
@@DragonFingerDrumsI know the pads are the same but what about the sensitivity? I thought the full sized one was more responsive but maybe I was mistaken
Thanks for these advises. I'm looking for an affordable standalone sampler do do finger drumming. I just found the Akai MPX8 or 16, do you know if there are other samplers like these ?
Unfortunately there aren't any standalone pad controllers that can run drum emulator software, which is the best option for realistic finger drumming. With a standalone controller, you only have access to one-shot samples, which won't sound or feel realistic, although they're okay for beginners.
I haven't tried that one personally, but I do prefer Maschine pads to MPC pads overall. However, plenty of finger drummers love the MPC and some players definitely shred on them, so they're obviously of good quality.
⚠️ Can I play finger drums on a keyboard and feel good ? I am a keyboardist. Would I need to purchase a pad controller ? Is it more sturdy and adequate, or a keyboard is as sturdy as ? Well, in my Country, Brazil, it's costing like U$1000 for the one you use. Here it's very expensive ! 😮
@@bullpup1337 Yes. I hope he replies to my message one day. After I posted, I saw several videos, and there are many keyboardists playing drums on a keyboard, but I don't know what feels more adequate, easier, and if it causes too much stress on the keys, so a pad controller could be more sturdy. 🙏👍
@@DihelsonMendonca I am more worried about stress to my wrists to be hones. I feel as a pianist it is easy to strike many keys with high precision and good rhythm with a keyboard, but might not be healthy for wrists and fingers
@@bullpup1337 You're right. The hand position is odd when playing drums. Perhaps on pads would be less stressful. But in my case I would create some rhythms for music, not playing drums as a drummer. But until be playing fine, takes a lot of practice.
Unfortunately for me, I often don't want to use a computer when making music. I wish Native Instruments made a generic MIDI controller that I could use with synths, and without requiring a computer. Launchpads are okay I guess, but very small pads
Best work around I’ve found for that generally relatable problem you’ve described. Get a solid 4x4 pad controller of your likening ideally with standard midi out (if not will need additional usb MIDI host separately) and pair it with a Novation Circuit Rhythm for minimal and fairly limited but on the go and screen less finger drumming running off battery, biggest draw back for me with this setup aside from the quite pricey buy in depending on what you already have, is that the Circuits only work with mono samples. Biggest bummer for me personally, that and that the midi implementation for the 8 voices you have is a lil finicky to setup.
@@shobaaddai6004 I actually ended up biting the bullet and going for the Maschine Plus. I just couldn't find any other pad surface that I liked. Most of the cheaper options felt hard and seemed to require a heavier playing style. Even with a very light touch I find the Maschine+ to be very responsive
