Good video! :P I noticed that one of the rollers that extends the tape around the head drum is wobbly, too. I dropped it twice onto a hard floor, once from 8 feet high, although it never started having problems until a couple of years after the last drop. I thought you'd get a kick out of the sticker since you mentioned it with your Victor camcorder. I used to have a strip of velcro adhered to the bottom so I could stick it on the dashboard of Dad's car to film roadtrips, so that might be the cause of that. Thinking about that now, recording dozens of hours of video while subject to the extreme vibration of a Geo Metro dashboard is perhaps another reason for its problems. lol Also, although the audio cuts out when playing back on the camcorder, it will transfer intact (albeit with glitches) via Firewire. Anyway, have fun with it. That's the farthest it's ever been from here since I took it to Boston, MA in 2006.
I've got a GR-D31xx (Can't goddamn read it) sitting right next to me here. I used to make all my YT vids with it back in the day. It got ran over by the quad, fell in the mud and thrown across my track drunk a few too many times over the years. Won't even start up now. Was a great cam while it lasted!
While you were talking about the tape mechanism issues, I was thinking it would work well as a camera via the video output. I see you were able to obtain that stereo that I sent you a picture of, my Wal-mart is no longer stocking them, only there a few months, and I am looking forward to a review on that stereo.
This video demonstrates why I would never buy another JVC camcorder. I had 2 different models from different time frames that had tape transports that failed after little use - I'm surprised this one held out as long as it did. The ones I had destroyed their own mechanism and then destroyed any tape put inside them, not by chewing them up but instead somehow corrupting the DV footage. It's a real shame :(
Great. Looks very worn, though like some said, I didn't notice it on some of his later videos with this camcorder. Reminds me of our JVC DV-cam, looks a bit older than ours, but the one we have is not showing picture from any tape anymore.
I have the JVC GR-D350U that i bought new in 2006 at best buy. It has worked flawless until last year it also developed a clicking noise. Mine is not heavily used and is still in near mint condition. The melody sound doesn't work anymore nor does the built in speaker. I wonder if it is worth repairing or not?. I do have a newer JVC Everio HD 120gb that records awesome. I like the DV camcorder and still have plenty of tapes and also recently last year found a JVC DV/Super VHS unit at my local Goodwill store for $10.00 and works like new and with remote control. It plays and records both sides nicely.
I have a D290 that's likely based on the exact same chassis and case as that, mine does have quite a loud tape mechanism. That little oval shape in the side when the screen is open is where the lamp on/off/auto button would be on models where it's installed, fairly nice cameras with decent picture quality, and mine at least has been pretty reliable.
I like the melodies that camcorder plays when you open and close the cassette door. I wonder why it is that at least some JVC MiniDV camcorders have that strange slight "Chorusing" effect in the sound, I've noticed this with a few RUclips users. Do you remember the RUclips user danielgosson? I believe he too used a JVC camcorder and it too had a strange "audio chorusing" effect going on.
Anyone still actually has this? I have a lot of childhood tapes and I just recently dug this camera up and to my surprise it actually works, but I can't get the camera to play the tapes for some reason
It certainly looks like a "last gen" bare bones MiniDV camcorder like that Sony you have. If the reels have a problem, it might be enough to cause enough wow/flutter in the tape transport that the capstan can't compensate for. Playing back the faulty recording only compounds the problem (playback errors on top of recording errors). Its likely a properly recorded tape will play back with less errors. Oh and Canon uses the same Auto/Manual switch setup on their camcorders. Its handy on the HV-20.
The Panasonic PV-GS90 from 2008 is the one I have that's really no-frills. Sony was at least nice enough to keep NightShot on all their tape camcorders until the end.
I got one, but it keeps losing image after a power cycle (video feed from the image sensor shows a black screen and flashes the lens cap warning). Still figuring out how to fix it! [Edit] apparently these cameras were on a lot alongside other models with a bad CCD, which was replaced feee by the manufacturer at the time (2005-2007). The fix for me is just a small, firm "whack" on the top of the camera lmao Also it shows an error whenever you try using a tape on it.
yeah, doesn't matter if the world is falling down. His monotone voice is the calming equivalent to being hopped up on morphing. It just makes everything ok
It was nice of your friend to send you a camcorder :-). Are you gonna try to fix it, or keep it as-is? It's cool that it still works after such heavy use. I guess you can say it's still ticking! hahaha... That stereo at the end looks interesting. Are you gonna make a video of it?

That part at the end really made me chuckle :)

I could notice that click in some of Trent's recent videos, not sure what it was. Now I know lol.
One good thing about SD card cameras is less to go wrong.
Hey does your jvc camera also have the Unit in Safeguard error?
You are lucky this jvc camcorder still working with you , almost 90% Of jvc owners have lens errors and the display is not working
I expect glitching is caused by inconsistent tape speed because of the slipping gear.
Seems the Sony is more tolerant when playing it back.
Anyone still actually has this? I have a lot of childhood tapes and I just recently dug this camera up and to my surprise it actually works, but I can't get the camera to play the tapes for some reason
So it actually doesn't work?
I have a 2005 camcorder that's identical.its a JVC-GRD25OEK with no worn stickers and is perfect

Really enjoyed this.
He has such nice voice, and reviews some interesting stuff. It's not impossible not to enjoy his videos.

I have been given a JVC gr- d94u and I don't know how to use it..I can't find anything online either. Can you help?
It was nice of your friend to send you a camcorder :-). Are you gonna try to fix it, or keep it as-is?

That stereo at the end looks interesting. Are you gonna make a video of it?
My Sony Handycam has a problem with the audio cutting in and out too. I thought that the heads were dirty, but now I'm not sure.
Very Good Job, and good video You Rock Man
Lol, that stereo looked like a 70's era Marantz mixed with some mordern features
When you were looking at the copyright, it said victor. So it is the same manufacturer as the bat.
JVC stands for Japan Victor Company.
Oh, right i forgot.
I believe the correct wording would be victor company of japan but to each their own
remember seeing that radio at the end at walmart. sure it has bluetooth but $98 is too much i think
Was there a widescreen mode on this 2005 camcorder?
Yes, it has both fake widescreen (which just adds black bars to the top and bottom of a 4:3 image) and real widescreen modes.
I have this camera. Mines runs and looks like new.
just picked up this camera. not bad
How do I record I brought it used but don't see how to record
How can you charge this if you lose the charger ?
You can't, unless you buy another charger for it.

***** Is this camcorder that the warrenty has been expired?
Would've expired in December 2006.
When it does happen since it got the click noise on the gadget?
***** The clicking started around early 2012, and the chronic glitching started around the middle of 2013.
cool:)
how can i watch my videos
What videos?
I bought a Sony dcr hc96 at Goodwill for 6.99
That's an awesome bargain, if it works!
unfortunately, it did not come with the battery, AC adapter, or handycam station.
