Thank you! People normaly charge a hefty amount of money to teach this and by providing it for free you are greatly helping the next generation of engineers.
Day one as a PCB designer / junior hardware engineer, my supervisor recommended this video. You are phenomenal and helped me get through my first experience with PCB design (with no experience). Thanks for being very detailed!
Robert your videos are very informative, I have used many different packages over the years, Tango, Protel in the early years, I started using Orcad back in 1990's, I began to feel like a BETA tester with all the bugs. I am considering moving on, Allegro is very convoluted. Altium seems to flow much better and have been demoing it and I like what I see. Again your videos are very good and I'm sure many people get good information from them, Thank you
Thx Robert. Very regrettable my Altium subscription which I got for a very nice price is coming to an end. Altium proposed a very expensive subscription for a hobbyist… talked to an Orcad supplier, could offer the new Orcad X standard for a VERY reasonable price, perpetual! This movie makes my migration a lot easier. Thx!!!
It's amazing how calm you are while explaining some very odd things, like setting paths in config files or giving advice to use File-Save instead of the other Save button. Forced to use Orcad at work now after years in Altium and other programs and its hilariously bad. I just cannot believe that people work in it and don't even ask the question - what the hell is going on with that software.
Couldn't agree more. The company I work for unfortunately uses Orcad and now I am forced to work with it. It is the worst software (UI-wise) I have ever experienced. Can't imagine how someone could choose it over KiCAD if it is not for some company rules/legacy projects.
Your presentation is excellent. Thank you for all your teaching videos. Your tutorials are my GOTO destinations. Currently we must use Orcad (but we GREATLY prefer Altium).
Great video - I purchaced your orcad course a few years ago which literally saved 1000’s of dollars in time wasted . 👍. The speed of this video is fantastic compared to your normal slo-mo which I watch on 2x 🤣. At any speed the content , as always , is packed with value where you share your years of experience in very well structured presentation .
I tried all the tools both free and commercial. Working with allegro and orcad is really painful and frustrating experience. Most of very simple operations are exponentially complicated. Atleast 6 months required for learning and using the tool bit comfortably in real design. if cost is not big constrained better move to altium. It would be much easier to learn and use.
Many Thanks Robert! Good Work. It would be great if you can also cover PCB Editor (instead of Allegro) as I think Capture CIS + PCB Editor cost under 600Euros and so many beginners and smaller companies will be using the same. Allegro PCB editor is like 6K euros i think along with Capture CIS so quite steep.
Hello Robert, I am using OrCAD PCB Designer Professional 17.2, but when I click on 3D model menu, it is not poping up 3D Mapper window, Am I missing any extension setup? The Setup-->Step Packaging Mapping... is lunching different Device/Packaging STEP Mapping window, but there is no model file import selection. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Greetings Robert. Great video, I just want to ask you about a particular topic. Is there a way to link multiple pads to a single pin (like in altium designer)? I can't find information related to that topic.
Thank you so much for such a nice lecture! I have a question: While adding 3D model to footprint in Allegro, I don't have "3D mapper" option in allegro 3D canvas. I can only see "visibility", "options", "symbols", and "collision detection". Is this a version issue?
Thank you for another wonderful video Robert ☺ Just a question: cannot see reference designers and the connector silkscreen on 3D canvas. What should I check? I downloaded your project and I see everything correctly, but I cannot find any difference in settings between your project and mine. Happy new year and...still thanks!

Hello Robert this is very useful video for all who wants to learn Orcad and Allegro. I am new to cadence I want to ask is there any way so that we can modify zoom in and out in Allegro like we have it in Capture (CTRL +SCROLL UP=ZOOM IN , CTRL +SCROLL DOWN=ZOOM OUT , SHIFT+SCROLL IN =PAN RIGHT , SHIFT+SCROLL OUT =PAN LEFT). Thanks you and Regards.
I tried to do it by directly downloading the footprint and symbol from snapEDA and added the libraries of it in Orcad capture project file but when i went for PCB components placement they are not appearing, what should I do?, is there no other way than to make the footprints and ourselves?
Robert, but if the OrCad is paid few thousands $$$$ so it's a problem 😁🤪 For hobbyists we don't need that expensive software to use once a month, or a half year But, thank you very much for your as always very interesting tutorial, we always learn a lot from your good videos, thx mate 👍
Sometimes it is possible to buy Orcad at price around $600 USD. Search for "orcad deal". That would be the cheapest version but it is still ok. Of course for hobbyists KiCad is probably the best.
Hello, why do you create a library for very common components? Are they not available in the libraries that come attached to the program? I have heard that OrCAD has a very extensive library
Hello, I'm stuck at 39:59 because Allegro PCB Editor ver. 17.4 does not have the 3D mapper window. Is this missing due to the update or because I am using the University Edition? Anyone else having this problem?
Hi Robert, just to be clear, could you answer me these two questions: 1) Does particular PCB board have a name? 2) What is this boards primary function and main features?
Such pathetic user interface. Simply to update a led colour text in schematic symbol. So many steps. For beginners leaning would take many months. Using this legacy tool and making bit complex design would take another few months.

I believe it's based on "we can't have everything". I think, Cadence priority is do not disturb the existing environment too much. Altium is changing a lot - on one side that means new features on other side frustration of constantly changing stuff and many random bugs between versions. On the other side, I think Cadence would like to stay as compatible as possible with previous versions (they don't want to impact the engineers already working with their software), but that means, they have to keep some old stuff. Still, it's not relevant - it does not matter if it's altium or cadence or kicad .... it's just a software.
