To Miss A- I started gymnastics when I was 13 and was put with a bunch of little kids and one girl who was two years younger than me. It was embarrassing, but I stuck with it because I thought it might still be something I liked. Today, I still love tumbling and gymnastics, and the few years I was in the class, I even became friends with some of the kids who were a lot younger than me. We had a special relationship and competed together. Overtime, I got a lot better and I found my passion. Even though I started much later than most people, I found what I love and can now tumble quite well. Don't give up and definitely don't ever compare yourself to others! You're doing great, and everything takes time.

@@kaylamesser5733 kinship is unlicensed placements. So relatives or someone else that has some kind of connection to the child/family. Family friends, teachers, etc. Any relationship that would allow the kids to keep a connection to relationships or community. There are never enough foster homes, so kinship/relative homes are lifesavers for sure. However, being unlicensed means that access to financial supports can be pretty limited.

I am 17 years old and I have had many CYS (or CPS) visits. I live with my grandma and my mom because my mom is a heavy drug user. There have been countless times where I have been stranded in the car with her because she was too high to drive. My principal has had to drive me home from school many times. There have been countless ER visits. Every time something like this would happen I would help cover it up. We would blame it on the new medications she was on or some medical condition etc... I spent my whole life doing anything and everything to stay out of the system because my situation couldn’t be worse than foster care. The horror stories of abuse and neglect kept me complacent in my own abuse and neglect. Seeing how there are amazing (AMAZING) families out there like yours makes me regret all of that so much. I would do anything to go back in time and tell the case workers that NO I do not feel safe. I wish your family all the best. You are a truly incredible family. Thank you for all you are doing

Hey! Former foster sister, current gymnast, and former cheerleader, if Miss A is interested in more tumbling/cheerleading route a really good option is to go to any local cheer gyms because a lot of them may offer intro cheer classes for high school cheerleaders therefore it may be girls more around her age and still be around her skill level to make her feel a little more comfortable! I started cheer classes when I was around 13 and there were plenty of girls who had done no tumbling yet! Just an idea! I love what yall are doing and hope for the best for yall and Miss A

When I was in high school I had befriended some young ladies who were living in a foster home. I invited them to come volunteer down at my local humane society with me. I think that would depend on what age they’d allow that at your local shelter. But it was definitely fun and therapeutic for them. They enjoyed getting out of the house but also not necessarily having to be around a bunch of people all the time. We would feed/water, bath and walk the dogs. Same goes for the cats, we’d make sure the litter boxes were fresh, fresh food and water and would play with them. Just an idea though. :)

Myspacemuncher some shelters will allow children that are not old enough to physically interact with animals come in and read to the dogs. It’s a stress free way to improve a child’s reading skills and is very therapeutic for animals. This would be great for a lot of foster children who might not have had a consistent or strong education and might be embarrassed by his or her lack of reading skills.

I wasn't allowed to see anyone I knew previously (outside mandatory parent visitations) nor was I encouraged to make new friends. My fosters would never let my new friends from my new school come over to play. (One time one randomly stopped by to ask if I could play, and they told her no. They acted kind of confused and offended afterwards that someone stopped by to see me.) The only people I had to play with were their other two fosters (that they adopted) who were like 2 and 4 yrs old.

Also, I truly appreciate your outlook on this experience. Everything from giving a child the opportunity to be a child, to rooting for the parents so reunification is possible. Just watching these videos has allowed me to support them better. While we’ve been good about the basics, it’s allowed me to have better dialogue with them. ❤️

My sisters and I were with kinship foster parents for years (eventually they gained full guardianship of course) and we all did cheerleading (and hated it) before moving on to band (which we also all three hated lol). It was very cool though to be able to do extra-curriculars that we had previously been unable to do due to moving around a lot and lack of money. Eventually, I and my youngest sister went into the arts, and our middle sister went into outdoor exploring activities. My aunt and uncle got me my very first guitar and I'm still playing 9 years later, so I think it's so, so helpful and important for foster parents to give the kids new opportunities and it's very cool that you are doing that for Miss A.

I just wanna say, from a very young age I knew I wanted to do something like this when I was old enough and seeing you change this girls life is just so so amazing. Every video I watch I can just see how dedicated you are to making sure this young girl is happy in the situation she was put in and it makes me so happy that honestly I tear up a little because you are such great role models and I strive to be as loving and caring people as you are.

@@Carolina-jy4lu What are you talking about Carolina? I don't want to invalidate your opinions, so perhaps you can formulate a coherent response clarifying the distasteful comment you chose to share on this person's platform and for the world to see. If you are feeling "sick" considering the idea that it takes a community/ "village" to properly raise stable humans, you might want to consider why that is. I am actually a little concerned about you Carolina. I hope you can find peace in your life instead of spreading negativity online. Maybe you don't know, but everything you or anyone else says has value and weight in this world. So try to formulate sentiments that validate others instead of merely showing disgust, as comments like that have a very poor value and breed a toxic environment that these RUclipsrs and their audience do not need. I just am blown away at how you go above and beyond to ensure the needs of your foster kids. Not just their basic needs but you guys are nurturing the whole child which, I dont think you realize, is quite rare in the system. My little cousins went into he system for some time (there mom had an emotional break down and then the case worker became very vindictive and actually removed the children from family care (their grandmothers home in Avery traumatic way...oulling them from under tables at 9 pm etc - it was very traumatic ) ) and while the girls (newborn and 3 at the time) got amazing homes (tho separated) the boys ( 4.5 and 7) went into a group home where they said they were abused and came out of it (the family fought to get them back) with some serious behavioral issues (one of them has now been diagnosed with a mental health disorder, had killed 2 animals, has had to go Ito behavioral health centers, etc. when they came back to the family home the older one was doing some very concerning things, displaying very odd behaviors that previously were not seen in him). The state said that boys over the age of 4 have a hard time finding a foster family :( Girls are better off but still the older they are the harder it is. And even if they find a home, there are many who do it for the $$ abusing what the system is for and providing the kids with he absolute bare minimums.
If for some reason I wasn't able to parent my own children, I would hope and pray they would have someone just like you to step in to care for them. I mean family members dont do the things you guys do for a lot of kids.
I often wonder if you guys realize how special you are...probably not because I think it comes so naturally to you. Your just living up to the standards that are totally normal to you and your husband. If you only knew these standards are quite rare in the system.

When I was 17 I moved to a nice group home and even though there were 7 other foster children and the fp 2 own children. they always gave us individual attention. The activities that I enjoyed with my foster dad were watching P.D Live, Playing Flag Football and he will always go to my practices and games which I loved. With my foster mom, I enjoyed going shopping. Before I came to that placement I didn't know how it was to have parents who cared for you and were stable. So this family truly changed my life and my views. I'm now 19 and I still have contact with them, they weren't able to adopt me but they are my parents. I really enjoy watching your videos because you guys truly care about the children that arrived at your home and honestly, foster parents like you are rare. I spend years in care and finally had an amazing placement when I was 17. And I honestly believe that you guys will change the lives of many foster care children. You guys are amazing!!!!! I love your channel! I'm sorry that you weren't able to adopt Miss A, but I'm sure you changed her life!

I was never in foster care & I’m not a foster parent, but I did volunteer at my local community theater between the ages of 12 & 16 and I loved it! I got to be a “teen volunteer” (teacher’s aid) for the little kid classes, which earned me a week of free classes. Maybe Miss A can release her creativity at a local theater or in a similar space! I also grew up in Cleveland & loved going to the art museum - they used to have free concerts outside in the summer, which I loved!

I started gymnastics a little over a year ago ( only knowing how to do a cartwheel and I didn’t have proper form) and I am 12 years old but 11 at the time and now I am competing in bronze last season and I am training in silver and going to compete silver next season. It is never to late to start. The jumpy thing that you called is actually the bronze vault that I competed and I saw people at one meet that did the same as her. I think that it is great that you are letting her get involved in activities. You are an inspiration honestly.

I love your videos so much! I was in foster care for about a year as a teen, and am now at university studying to be a teacher. Coming from a former foster child, you have no idea how much of a difference you are making on these girls, simply by loving on them and providing them with opportunities.
My foster parents were amazing about allowing me to continue with the activities I was already a part of. I have done Taekwondo my whole life, and at the time I was put into the system I was in the middle of competition season and on the road to nationals. My foster parents went out of their way to do everything possible to allow me to keep competing. (With competition season I was going out of state almost every other weekend, and you know how much communication and paperwork that meant for my mom, foster parents, and case worker).
Thank you for what you do, both by opening your home to these kids and by posting these videos to educate everyone about the realities of the foster system!

I got to scrapbook 😊 Although the state reimbursed the county. And it was only a one time "recreation" type program thing? We all got to pick one thing we'd like to do as a hobby. My foster sister picked electric guitar. Scrapbooking and paper crafting in general are things that I have carried into my adult life. Hobbies are so therapeutic and I'm happy that Miss A gets to do gymnastics 💚

I went into foster care at 15 (I'm 24 now) and my last family was wonderful (despite the really difficult situation and time in my life.) They got me into road cycling because that is what they enjoyed as a family. I took to cycling really quickly and it became an avenue to work through emotions, set goals, find a sense of structure, build a community, and keep me out of trouble. I think any sport or activity can do this. Keep helping her follow her interests whatever they are and she'll find something too.

I just graduated university, specializing in youth care. It's so valuable for me to see your view and this experience as a whole. I love how you give Miss A space where she needs it but on the other hand, also encourage her to try new things and how you try to involve her in your daily life as much as possible. She will appreciate this so much when she looks back on this experience in the future, I think!
Also, I want to take some time to say how amazing it is that a family member of hers told her to continue living her life. It is so important for foster children to be granted this ''permission'', because often times they feel guilty for liking the new environment. They are very loyal to their biological parents and this holds back some children to dive into new things. Great job on the family member for this!
