Wow, thank you for all those kind words about my videos; they have been a lovely surprise! I'm glad you appreciate all the car nerdiness I've unleashed on RUclips. My thick Italian accent has proved a pretty divisive subject: some see it as a sign of authenticity, like you, while others just can't bear it! Well, you can't please everyone... Cool video; keep 'em coming!
Modify the rear lights. I think round lights like the Lancia Stratos or the 3 section mk1 Cortina would fit well with the style of the car. Just my opinion. I'm totally with you regarding the arbitrary deadlines, I hate them, they add nothing and have destroyed more than one car/bike TV shows by over working staff and burn out. I much rather see a project built properly over time like this and project Binky. Luckily RUclips lends itself far better to long term projects than TV production schedules would allow.
There is an earlier GTM that has cortina lights and you are quite right they look fantastic but don't quite fit the feel of the mosquito, I've already bought some new old stock lights and they are 👌🏼 perfect
Cirque Du Mosquito 😁😁👌👌 Great work and attention to details as always. Love the talk about seam sealer, paint, steel-it interaction. Almost no one else thinks about that or mentions it. The Pond is Magnificent
Was talking in work recently about old robust furniture and how its all hand made by proper carpenters, made to last and sturdy as heck!! My example was as follows: "theres a guy on youtube, he uses an old french table on tiny wooden casters to put a car hes building on top of" Swear, every time i see it being used it makes me grin and chuckle inside a little at the thought of other RUclips and their sponser supplied 2 post lifts etc 🤭
P.S. When painting larger areas like the bottom of the floor pans, going close to perpendicular direction of travel between coats will help to prevent tiger striping. Looking great!
The pond is looking good now. Bentley was certainly enjoying chasing the ball. Though there is still a lot to go it's all coming together well. Thanks to you all.
Love it and it looks like you two really enjoyed the process too. Me and my dad sprayed my Mini Cooper shell years ago in a very narrow garage. We perched the shell on a single metal bucket so we could spin it a foot or two to get the best access down the sides, all good fun.
Thanks for the consecutive weekend uploads! You're videos have become an almost scheduled part of my life 😂 your passion for this project keeps me motivated to keep grafting as an Engine builder so that one day I can do this with my Son.
I stumbled on the first video a few months ago, but never watched it. About three or four weeks ago I finally watched the first episode and my mind was blown. I have just caught up after smashing through all of the episodes. Classic Mini's are one of my "Halo" cars and have been since I saw some British show about them winning touring races in the 90s. For the last few years I have thought, wouldn't a Mini, but Super Car style car at the size/wheelbase be awesome. I didn't know GTMs were a thing/existed and was looking at various Kei cars like the Honda s660 to meet that need (and they will likely end up in that space). You are making my dream car. I'm not mechanically skilled at this point, and I don't foresee that changing soon. I have learnt so much watching your episode - things about suspension, about folding metal, about tube cutting, about monocoque chassis design, about bonnet shape. I can't wait to see you finish this beautiful tribute to the Mini gods. I am loving seeing you and your dad work together. I'm really appreciate the overall design vision you have. I think the Pickard Mosquito will be a car to remember.
I was surprised at how seemingly little over spray was hanging in the air, Im no expert but I’ve sprayed parts of my kit car in a single garage, with dust sheets hanging from the ceiling, I had a lot of spray in the air but worked out ok.
Yes although there's not a lot in it and of course epoxy primer is primer so it still needs painting afterwards but it's good stuff and probably what we'll use on the finished body
you have achieved less irish rally weight reduction and that is a good thing. you prop told us in one of the early vides but will you put a sound system in this and if yes how are you going to make the car water resistant. if enyone says water proff they are a lier. good job with the umbrela we were entertaned,
Well, that's a bit slapdash for you two isn't it? Hanging it up by a rope? I'd have expected an entire 30 minute episode on calculating the chassis' exact centre of gravity, then another episode on you building an adjustable knife edge roller equipped "rotisserie jig" with the roll axis going precisely through that centre of gravity, where you could shift the rotational axis slightly to have the chasse gracefully rotate all by itself to the new desired position (maybe with Strauss's "The Blue Danube" gently playing in the background?). Just dangling the poor thing off a bit of old rope like some rusty boat anchor really isn't up to your usual standards. :D
As a veteran fiberglass fabricator, I must disagree with your impulse to paint the body, because when it comes time to modify the existing composite and add flares, structural reinforcement, or whatever, you will not get a good bond anywhere without stripping away ALL of this current "impulse", as well as any previous coating accumulated on the shell. At the very least, you might have painted it with simple latex that is easily strippable and rinseable when the time comes. Anyway, the inevitable consequences will provide at leat 2 episodes of content when you are ready to make the body strong enough and appropriately shaped for its role/tasks.
Are you building a race or road car? No Stone Chip Protection, i think you be sorry. your floor sounds like an empty oil drum. and you will hear every stone you pick up, not to mention you will have to repair the paint once a year, Even if you add 10 kg on the weight it is added at the lowest point in the car

You definitely can't please everyone and little good has ever been achieved from trying. Even I get the odd comment about my accent haha
Best father and son collab I've seen in a very long time...loving it gents!!!

What a beautiful garden to work in - or anything else...

I think you should cut the light boxes out and fit more aesthetically pleasing ones already cutting and adding things, what's one extra 😂
All that MIG welding with no gloves. Your dad is so Metal. 🤘🤘
P.S. When painting larger areas like the bottom of the floor pans, going close to perpendicular direction of travel between coats will help to prevent tiger striping. Looking great!
I can't wait to see the body design of the Mosquito. I really appreciate a custom car like yours.

Once again great job. Thanks for sharing. 👍 hit the like button. Looking foward to upcoming progress
A highly entertaining video and what a fantastic garden!
Whilst not a RUclipsr, I have had my Lotus Europa chassis hanging from the celling for over a year.
A car on a kitchen table 😮
I think that's the most extreme conditions I've ever seen for paint spraying! Well done for completing it.
Props to that table

@@moss6227 You are very welcome 👍🏻
Coming along nicely now
Looks great,
It will when it's all together

And Dimple Dies Holes and Holy Lightening Batman! And bead rolling for strength! This I'm still amazed by.
@@SuperDrakmar Thank you so much! your comment really made my day
Excellent video guys, thanks very much.
Thanks!
Thank you 🙏🏼
Hanging stuff from the roof is great, i hanging my steering axles from my roof, they weigh over a ton.

Did you remember the clutch line before painting it?
@@juscozcustoms yup 👍🏼
@@OliverPickard excellent
Love the videos, im from Hyndburn, and the accent sounds very local :)
kind of local 😉
I missed what primer you are using. I used epoxy 1k paint for Bodysnatcher when I had it.
Just a cheap acrylic because it'll all be coming off later, the finished body will get epoxy
So, is Steel-It heavier than say, epoxy primer even tho it's lighter than undercoating? lol
Yes although there's not a lot in it and of course epoxy primer is primer so it still needs painting afterwards but it's good stuff and probably what we'll use on the finished body
Hi. Car coming on. Envy you're relationship with you're dad Please post a link to you're other channels.
Thank you. It's in the description, second link down

The car won't leak I can guarantee that. I don't know about a stereo, I might just chuck a big Bluetooth speaker in it like I do my daily

It's just a water based primer. The body has some spider cracks so the gel coat will have to come off but it helps us see what we are doing for now

I have noticed you guys really do more talking than working .... really cool cool car just alot of time wasted
the down side to weekly videos is less progress per video but we got an insane amount of work done in just 2.5 days
