    Video Summary:
    Resting membrane potential is inside negative. The stimulus that brings the voltage to the threshold produces an action potential. Here, the influx of Na by voltage-gated Na channel produces depolarization. Then Na channels close and K channels open. The exit of K causes repolarization of the membrane. The altered concentration gradients of Na and K are reestablished by the Na-K ATPase pump. Voltage-gated Na channels have an activation gate and an inactivation gate. Opening of activation gate during depolarization allows passage of Na. Then closing inactivation gates stops the Na entry contributing to repolarization. The channel returns to its initial state after resting membrane potential is reestablished. Change in a concentration gradient of Na and K for a single action potential is very very small and millions of action potentials can be passed before the gradient reduces to a significant level. Duration and shape of the action potential can vary in different cells. And finally, generation of action potential involves a positive feedback loop which is rare in the body.

    You've hit the nail in all of the things I needed to hear about action potential. Just like you, I've had the same dilemma of what you say in 9:41, where I also had the same confusion when i learned first that the action potential can be generated without the Na K pump for more than a thousand times (or something like that).     How is hyperpolarization reversed? How will the membrane potential return to resting potential after having become more negative than the resting potential?

      The sodium potassium pump re establish the resting membrane potential, by pumping 3 sodium out and two potassium in. Also leak channels help as well,their transport is passive.

    No book of physiology has written the RMP of neurons is -90mv
    Do cross check before u post a video.
    Many aspirants might believe it and choose that option in MCQ type neet exams.
    Ur videos r good but be extra cautious from next time.
    RMP of neuronal cells ~ -70mv
    Skeletal muscle cells~-90mv
    Pacemaker cells have restless membrane potentials

    And whats the action Potential for?
    I dont know much about this subject, so i am asking myself why the Body is doing that when it consumes ATP to get it Back to normal.

      For transmission of impulse. In simple words, it's a way of communication with with other cells. Action potential is like a message that travels along the membrane very fast.

    is -90mV not hyperpolarization? resting membrane potential is -70mV. thats what i was taught.

      Resting membrane Potentials are different for different types of cells. Also values in different books might vary

      It allows a refractory period before the next action potential.

      @@NonstopNeuron sir, but at a single time only one gate is open or closed.... So it can be achieved by only one gate.. Either it is open or closed..
