- The Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the Western Hemisphere and one of the largest in the world. Every day, specialized teams gear up to clean the hundreds of exhibits across all eight of the aquarium’s galleries. Workers use brushes, mechanized scrubbers, and scrapers to deep clean every inch of the habitats. All that waste is funneled to a filtration system beneath the aquarium, where some of it will be filtered and reused as top-off water for the aquarium's main attraction - Ocean Voyager.

The man being in there with no gloves, mask, or hat is CRAZY to me.
Especially since he’s spraying the hose. It’s putting the fecal matter into aerosol form so basically every breath he’s inhaling a ton of poop particles…
At the end they explained that was just sand, the poop had already been filtered out - still extremely gross and I'd probably be wearing full PPE still lol but not like he's spraying waste everywhere with the hose
I have lotsa aquarium and surprisingely, fish poop doesnt smeell or anything compared to other animals. Also, they already went through filters, so all thats left is odorless sludge
@tashacraven You got that very wrong! 11:42 - "most of it is animal waste, there is a little bit sand". He never said what you wrote, that it is just sand.
@@fluxion3265 I understand that now, I didn’t finish the video.
What blows my mind is how great ecosystems are, like imagine no body is going and cleaning the oceans and yet it supports huge number of life.
its Allah creation
Its bhagwan creation
Evolution through natural selection makes consumer species at every level.
Though ecosystems are complicated, how the oceans stay "clean" for life is pretty easy to understand. All the poop and other waste falls to the bottom of the ocean and there are literal species down there designed to just...eat the poop.
@@danahabd4497lol sure
This is something I never even thought about. It's amazing how they do it routinely everyday. I definitely couldn't 😂
All this casually happens and the ocean and finds a way to clean itself, insane really
Ocean thousands more big, so it will naturally gone
that’s because even though many aquariums put a lot of effort into making mini-ecosystems in their tanks, the ocean is way bigger with way more organisms to break down all the waste
And still some people believe that god doesnt exists.
@randomvideoboy1 how do you think consciousness itself exists in the first place? The universe is an expression of consciousness.
@randomvideoboy1 So you're science created all this? 😂
Hats off to all the hard working dedicated employees.
The jobs that people have to do so we can see clean water in aquariums. Have a lot of gratitude for those kind of people.
Did that seal just waved his hands? That’s so adorableee. 🥺
It blows my mind how a creature like Toby is just so smart, look at him, he's hoping all over the place, that is so cute :3
The Georgia Aquarium is absolutely BREATH TAKING. I get chills every time I see those giant whale sharks. How lucky are we to see such amazing creatures so up close & personal. I also highly recommend the behind the scenes tour.
Nice ad
it’s actually a horrible aquarium
Ah yes let’s glorify sticking massive animals in tiny enclosures compared to where they should be in the ocean
@@abcdcba4405exactly haha 😊
LITERAL CHILLS🤓🤓
this is genuinely so incredible. i love the national aquarium in baltimore. its always so stunning and gorgeous but i rarely see many employees around. now i realize that they always are, hard at work keeping these enclosures clean and running. amazing stuff
1:09 he waved, my heart can't take this much cuteness💞💞
It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it...
I was just thinking this same thing, too
yep!
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-ohhhhh
Not for free.
I mean, he's not wearing a mask, for whatever reason, so I guess it's not that dirty, hard or smelly after all.
This was so interesting and educational! Props to all teams of workers on the aquarium 👏🏽
It is so amazing how they can clean such huge aquariums
The thought legit never crossed my mind on what happens to the fish 💩 thanks 👍🏾
Those Sea Lion and Harbor seals are adorable
We visited in June. This is something we didn't even think to ask..... Staff was amazing answering all of our questions this is one we missed.
I’ve been to The Georgia Aquarium this year and it was amazing the aquarium was huge and very clean I definitely recommend going if you live sea life
Oh WOW! The general public doesn't think about this. 😂😂😂😂
Thank you for the update, Insider..!! Amazing work..!!
This crew deserve a Medal 🏅 they don't even clean they own homes like that 😅
I was there yesterday and it’s HUGE!!!
me washing my parent's aquarium can't even be compared to this, great job! also love the fish
I further understand why aquarium tickets cost $50
Tbh, I'd gladly pay 50$ to go see this aquarium, it's absolutely amazing. I've been to monteray bay aquarium and that place was really amazing but that ocean voyage tank at this aquarium in georgia is absolutely breathtaking and I'd absolutely love to go and see it if I had the money to buy a plane ticket and whatnot lmfao.
16$ here in South Africa

5:09 Never thought anyone could be so excited and happy and downright euphoric cleaning someone's 💩! 🎩off to you young lady 👍🏻🏆🎖
It's so stinking cute how they learn their little routine and know where they're going and what they're doing like doggies 😂
I got the pleasure to get a behind the seas tour and sleep in front in front of the big window to the ocean voyager. It was so amazing it was a school trip with all the boys in one van we went to to botanical garden and then a night at the at the aquarium
Healthy. Happy habitats, healthy and clean animals. I am very happy too
Wonder if all that would make for quality fertiliser.
I was wondering the same thing, too bad it was not talked about in the video. But then these are salt water aquariums, so the "sludge" sure contains salt, so it may not be suitable for land crops unless further treatment is applied to that sludge.
As a beginner gardener playing with aquaponics, I wonder if all that biomaterial waste is just dumped into sewage treatment or used towards agricultural. There's a lot of good nitrates in there that are great for growing plants.
They said it gets treated and used to top off the water level in ocean voyager
@@APimpNamedSlickBakthat's the water. But the solids would be absolutely loaded with nitrates and amazing as fertilizer
I was wondering that too. Fertilizer!
@@kiddwong4186awesome fertilizer.
Wow respect to the crew ❤
12:17 one of the most respectful job in the world
AI could never!!! 👀
Kudos to all employees! Must sure love their jobs ❤️
so cool I was there not that long ago, its neet to see more of that stuff
So cool to see the things that you otherwise won't see .
Huge thanks!💙💙
i can't stand cleaning my protein skimmer when it's full. The smell is horrid! Can't imagine them. Props to these people!
Oh waw. So much work!
Omg the sea lions ❤️❤️❤️
That would be so good for plants!🌱
Sea lions are so cute!
I know, right? The way they "walk" around, and the cute little noises they make, made me smile.🥰 My stepson actually used to work there, and unfortunately we weren't able to go when he invited us to take a personal tour. Maybe he can call in a favor and we'll still have a chance to check it out.🤞 I'll even help clean if it means I'd get to hangout with those adorable sea lions! Like you said, they are so cute!
That is the beauty of the aquarium hobby and only those who really into this see that. ❤
1:09 My heart just melting
I loved the Georgia aquarium. My favorite part was the Beluga whales, they were so majestic. it just felt crazy that we live on the same planet as them.
This next-level dedication. ❤
I need to go here one day!
We used to have sharks at our local zoo. But one night, the filtration system of the aquarium had a malfunction and all the sharks died overnight. Sharks are extremely sensitive towards water quality...one night of limited filtration was enough to kill them.
this was a cool one
I like how Toby just waved then hopped on over to the mattress 😅
Toby is a champ
I love this aquarium
Amazing aquarium! Everyone should visit! The rays and whale sharks are breathtaking 😍😍😍😍
You have been before?
animals in captivity, nice! Everyone should visit.
@@paulhorn9809 Ya'll act like these animals are being mistreated horrendously and aren't being given a fulfilling life with food and plenty of space to roam. Don't get me wrong, there are aquariums and zoos that treat animals horrendously and those places should definitely be exposed and shutdown but ya'll don't understand that a lot of these animals would more than likely live a short life in the wild furthermore majority of the time these animals are well taken care of and loved plenty and it's not like these animals have enough intelligence to understand that they're in a aquarium lol
@@ThiccHarambeGaming That‘s the point. They understand that they are captivity. Would you rather live a short life in freedom or a long one in captivity. I’m sure everyone at the aquarium does a great job and loves the animals. But when u look at the greater picture it’s just not right.
I just think it's unthinking to just say everyone should go to the zoo because it's "nice".
@@paulhorn9809 How do they understand that though? I didn't know little fish were capable of intelligence to the point where they could differentiate between an enclosed environment and an open one lol. If I was a fish I'd rather live in a safe and comfortable environment where I can get food everyday and enjoy my fish life comfortably instead of one that I have to fight for my life every single day and constantly having the fear of not having food to survive or having the constant fear of being devoured by some other fish lol.
But I understand what you're trying to get at and I agree to an extent but at the end of the day, these little fishies are living a comfortable life where they get food everyday, can probably mate comfortably and not having to worry about being eaten by some other fish although I doubt they fear that since fish aren't that intelligent lol but they are well taken care of in general and aren't being abused. If they were being abused and whatnot than yeah, I'd agree to not go and support that business that abuses those animals and should be shutdown but that's not what's happening here. But I also believe that aquariums are great because they teach people about marine life and to take care of the marine life and it also gives people a good picture of how beautiful marine life is and how it should absolutely be taken care of. I think it's important for people to be educated on these things.
One day I hope I get to visit.
My respect to all these beautiful people
The seals will be like : hello! Is this LSS team? U missed a spot and Dave is really freaking out!
8:32
This is so trippy. The rock she's scrubbing looks like a hole to some other universe.
aquarium housekeeping, interesting
toby the sea lion has my heart
Shoutout to the cleaners, something that never even occurred to me
I love how their called life support team
😊cool 😊
I hope they pay y'all well. Hat's off to ya.
5:02 I've never seen someone so happy scooping poop
I'm surprised they don't use high pressure water for cleaning the floors instead of scrubbing with soap and elbow grease.
Prayers for gale🫡
Am i the only one who thinks the diver tank cleaning seems like an awesome job, id love to do something like that..i wonder how much they get paid.
0:29 dumpy
I go to this aquarium all them time and I had no idea all this stuff was happening
TOBY IS SO CUTE
i cant even imagine how they had to coordinate this over lockdown
0:29 GYATTTT
I'm curious about the jelly fish exhibits
You just wear a wetsuit that covers every inch of your body and a mask that does the same for your face.
God I love the georgia aquarium
I loved toby 🦭
Every single aquarist knows how that person felt scraping off algae off that piece of wood.
Wow
They don’t do this every day. They’ll never have time for the animals but crazy of the love and smarts
They actually do clean everything every day
0:29 GAH DAMN
I think it is the least that humans can do for these animals after being captivated, good for them.
I really want to swim in that tank like really really badly.
Not to be dramatic… BUT I WOULD DIE FOR TOBY
1:10 what do u mean a sea lion wavin at us?
0:29 lady got a bakery
Where's Mike Rowe? This would have been right up his alley!
I see lots of plant fertilizer
dang i remember coming here when i was like 6 or something
they should make it. naturaly planted tank
😮
Y’all better get an aquatic Robotic Shark Vac.
College kids: Yay! I just graduated and now I’m a marine biologist! 🐬
Life: Grab a shovel. You’ll literally be shoveling 💩
i was feeling hungry after watching a few minutes my appetite is gone
I want this job
I was listening to this with only audio and I thought Toby was just a really fat aquarium cleaner
There must be a better way to clean that huge tank out at the end. Rather than lift the buckets I would have thought a suction device anything to make it easier.
Cant they add cleaner fish and decomposers and species that naturally clean like out in the wild?
Where do all the aquatic animals go while the tanks are being cleaned? Into another tank?
I need a shower after watching this 😅
They living a better life than me
when i clean my aquarium i get tired, the process is basically the same just the size is massive
Same. Cleaning my 35G with a bucket alone is exhausting. Luckily, these guys have good water pressure and vacuums.
Rivers should probably be wearing a respirator when he's down there with a fire hose kicking fecal matter into the air on repeat.
