Trang (ตรัง), Thailand - Welcome to Trang, a lovely historical and laid back city in Southern Thailand. In this video, we’re going on a Thai Chinese street food tour - starting at the market with the famous Trang roast pork, and feasting on the impressive dim sum skyscrapers that the city is well known for. Finally, we’ll complete this Thai Chinese street food tour with a legendary bowl of Hokkien mee - Hokkien Chinese style noodles which are popular throughout communities in Southern Thailand. #Trang #Thailand #dimsum #streetfood
Here are the places we visited:
Trang Roast Pork (หมูย่างโกเภา) - I was recommended that this place in the back of the local municipal Trang morning market was the best in town. And they have a huge loyal following. I arrived early in the morning, about 6 am, and already they were almost sold out for the day - we were lucky to get one of the last un-reserved hundred grams. Trang roasted pork (ตรังหมูย่าง) is sweet, but wow it’s pretty tasty, and their version was the best I’ve ever had of Trang style roasted pork. Price - 420 THB ($13.44) per kg.
Jay Kee (เจ๊กี่) - Also in the market you’ll find another legendary stall call Jay Kee (เจ๊กี่) that serves rice flour dumplings and chopped pig face, both smothered in pink soybean sauce. It wasn’t my favorite thing ever, but it was a very cool place and a couple of legendary dishes. Price - 20 THB ($0.64) per plate
Ruan Thai Dim Sum (เรือนไทยติ่มซำ goo.gl/maps/iF...) - For the population size of Trang, there is an un-proportionate amount of dim sum restaurants - meaning people just really love to eat dim sum in Trang! There are so many places to choose from, but I chose Ruan Thai Dim Sum (เรือนไทยติ่มซำ) because they are known to have one of the biggest selections of dim sum. When you arrive, you’ll see a small downtown of skyscrapers dim sum, all waiting to be ordered. What you do is you choose the different dumplings and bites you want to eat, and they freshly steam them, before bringing all the baskets to your table. This was, everything you eat is fresh and hot. We met the owner, and he gave us a few extra dishes as well, including some more Trang roasted pork and super “radna” noodles. Awesome place to eat dim sum and enjoy the local Trang Thai Chinese culture in the morning.
Chew Dam (ร้านฉิวดำ) - Finally to wrap up this street food tour we headed to Chew Dam (ร้านฉิวดำ), a generations old shophouse restaurant for Hokkien Mee. The yellow noodles are cooked in a thick umami boosted gravy and served with a barely cooked egg. Awesome place and delicious Hokkien Mee. Hokkien Mee - 45 THB ($1.44)
And that completes this Asian street food tour in Trang. Trang is a fantastic city, with a great balance of history, nice people, buzzing markets, and delicious street food.

Trang was my hometown. I can say that all restaurants ,that you have shown in this video, was a real local restaurants. All of the local people in Trang town really eat like this for their daily life. You make a perfect video with a perfect information and well preparation.

I lived in Trang for a couple of years and used to eat at this Dim Sum place every Saturday morning. Best Dim Sum I’ve ever had. Glad to know it’s still there as it’s the first place I will go next time I’m in the south.

Plus he control his drone, he books some flights that he pay himself, he is promoting the tourism of all countries spreading kindness and acceptance, he doesn't deny any food, he doesn't waste any food, he is mostly vegetarian in rest of his days (as far as I noticed) and he is just fun to watch no matter what.

I’ve been watching Mark Weins for a awhile. His crew he traveled with and him made videos fun places to eat history lessons all is good. I never been to Thailand and will not be able to ever go but I’ve seen it thru marks and his family’s eyes for free as tho I: there I feel their happiness and experiences and thanks for sharing.
I was born in Trang and was living there until I was 18. Trang is famous for local people for good food :D When I visit my parent, I always stop for Dim Sums. It brings me childhood memory.
I love the way Mark enjoys all the food he eats. A man of simple tastes. I wish we all had everything, with so little. Life would be more bearable.
I love how many of the eateries use reusable plates and cutlery. Not disposable. Eco friendly and delicious!

I absolutely love steamed Dim Sum. My ‘go to’ dipping sauce I make up with a mixture of grated garlic and ginger, Chinese sweet chilli sauce, soy sauce, white wine vinegar and sesame oil.

Trang is my hometown!! 😊 I was born and grew up there until finished the highschool. I could say that the food culture there is different from other cities in Thailand and the rest of the world. It was a mixture of different elements and seasonings that you cannot find anywhere else. During the time I lived there, I enjoyed eating so much, there are varieties of food that are sold at all the time of the day.
After watching this video I do miss there so much, not only the food but also the familiar vibe of the city, the busyness of the market in the morning, the nice and kind people, I miss them all. And I could also say you found the hidden gem, you went to the right place, every restaurant was original and has been opened for a long time. What I like the most is Hokkian yellow noodle, it is the best ever I've tried in my life (even they might put MSG 😂). Also, thanks so much for the excellent editing, I'm so glad that you enjoyed the city and made more people get to know my hometown. 🙏🏻
One last thing I'd like to say is honestly I really hope my city would become a little bit more well-known and get more support from the central administration so that the quality of locals' lives will be improved. I mean at least we should have better infrastructure, public transportation, and economic support. 🥺

Thailand is a Beautiful country and Delicious food.
I love Thai cuisine. Intricate in taste, presentation and preparation. So much blend of cultures. Geographically speaking truly it's rich in tradition and food. Distinctively identified by their location as described herein (north and south dishes). I am drooling to taste everything. That roasted pork though, I wish the process of cooking was shown.

Wow I love the Dimsum! It's like the place is a Buffet of Dimsum 😊
In Trang, Pad see ew(Thai stir fried noodle) can be either this yellow noodle or white noodle(like in Bangkok) so that you have to tell them type of noodle you choose too. But most of local ppl prefer this yellow noodle and you can find Yellow Noodle Pad see ew in every area in Trang and some street foods in southern province(but not popular like Trang). Mee Hok Kien is a different noodle, it's Phuket style and only found in Chew Dum and few street food restaurants here.

As a Hongkonger I find this dim sum experience completely different from what we grew up with. In that restaurant dim sum are always hot and fresh because they aren't cooked until they're served, which is super genius.

It's nice to see so many new places in Thailand that I'd like to visit! We usually go once a year to eat and drink Thai craft beer! This year we planned to spend a month there but obviuosly that didn't happen. Ten days there last year clearly wasn't long enough! Chomping at the bit to get there soon!

I love the way they compromise the dim ordering systems. When I started eating dim sum as a child over 60 years ago the already cooked dishes came around on carts. Now virtually every restaurant cooks to order. This restaurants method allows (especially with such a huge selection) for you to see your options but still get it fresh cooked.
Just a little chilli and white pepper. lol
I haven’t had it in 40 years and now I’m sad to know it’s no longer in carts I can pick from. I was planning to go to Chinatown after seeing this and I don’t think I will ruin that memory for myself.
