  • The Spirit from Longines is a very big launch for this Swiss brand with a history dating back to 1832. In this video I review every angle and detail of the 40 mm Longines Spirit on the bracelet ref. no. L3.810.4.93.6.

    Longines are absolutely killing it at the moment. The Hydro conquest is an absolute bargain of a watch, the legend diver, the spirit pilots range. Pretty much all the heritage range.

    After watching this video, I went to the AD and tried the exact model. Here's my take: very well executed watch with gorgeous sunburst dial and wonderful mix of brushed and polished surfaces on the case and the bracelet. The overall "feel" of the watch is very solid and definitely luxurious, albeit still not at the Omega level. Nevertheless, what was the deal breaker for me is the lug-to-lug size of 50mm. Because of it, this perfectly sized and well proportioned watch wears very large, a bit too large for my preferences. So, to anyone interested in this fantastic Longines: don't be fooled by its 40mm case size, this is a watch that wears significantly larger than its dimensions suggest, so - try it before you buy it! :)

    I just received my 40mm blue dial Spirit (on a bracelet) yesterday. It’s a terrific watch. With Omega’s move upmarket to compete against Rolex, Longines has moved into the spot Omega occupied from the early 2000s up until they started releasing watches with the 8500 movement. This Spirit and my Conquest chronograph certainly compete well against my circa 2010 Seamaster Professional.

    A friend of mine just bought the 42mm Prestige version in black. We tried them all on, 40 and 42mm in all colours. My personal favourite was the 42mm white dial, but all the colours looked really good. Prior looking photos online I thought I would 100% prefere the 40mm, due to the number 3 hour marker being slightly cut out on the 42mm, but when I tried the watch on, I thought the 42mm was just perfect and the cut out number 3 didn't bother me at all. In the end I actually prefered it, because the dial looked more balanced.

    • @AZadeh-nd8vx
      @AZadeh-nd8vx 3 года назад

      I agree, I tried all of them on and went with the 42mm in blue. I agree it's more balanced with the cut out 3 and it doesn't bother me at all either. Also the lug width is 22mm which is easier to get straps for. It does wear big though because of the lug length, so you need to have the wrists to pull off the 42mm. The watch movement is incredible too - it keeps to within 1 second a day!

    • @pcling5643
      @pcling5643 2 года назад +1

      Yes, I tried it and find that the 42mm looks much better physically. In the end, I pull the trigger on the 42mm blue dial. A very gorgeous watch. Nice.

    I just bought the 42mm blue dial on a bracelet. I love it. I have a large wrist so no need to remove any links either. There is a fantastic feature of this watch I've not really heard mentioned/discussed on reviews so far, which is the sand blasted hands! I'm getting on (60) and my eyesight is getting poorer, highly polished hands are a nightmare to read in daylight as found on my gorgeous Hamilton intra-matic, and I no longer wear it due to this. These sandblasted hands jump out of the dial at a glance and it's these little attention to detail features where Longines have nailed it. I own Omega's and Rolex but the sober look and details of this watch beats them IMO. I bought it as ex-shop display never worn complete with tags and stickers for £500 below retail..😎

      I agree, Homeboy! The Longines Hydroconquest, another otherwise great watch, is totally ruined by the position of the date window and lack of the number 3. ( I sometimes feel the designers of these watches could care less what we, the watch buying public, think of their piss-poor designs! )

    Great review as always. I regretted flipping my Hydroconquest a few years back and always said I'd get another Longines so I pulled the trigger on a black faced Spirit 40 mm and agree with your assessment. It is superb quality - the fine details reward every time I put it on and I'm looking forward to also wearing it on a brown leather strap (didn't have a 21 mm in my collection!). Apparently the bracelet that comes with the Prestige edition has screwed links, quick release button and a fold over adjustable clasp - it is a lot more pricey though!

    Great review, love mine. Often wear it in preference to my more expensive pieces. I'm on a search for the perfect elegant, tough, sporty, versatile everyday watch. Must be on bracelet, must be waterproof, must have lume etc etc! Surprising how few watches like this there are. This does great. Beautiful, classic inspired modern dial (Omega quality), superb (Panerai levels) legibility, brilliant lume (Seiko levels!). Great accuracy. Easily Tudor quality, but a better movement - like '00s Omega. My only gripe is that the Outer AR coating will scratch, so will need removing eventually. And, as you say, make sure it fits - those long lugs (surely a smaller model is needed for the smaller wristed - I'm 1.88m with 18.5cm wrists and I think the 40mm fits 'just')!

    This is a gorgeous watch, but there's too many negatives, which makes it a deal breaker for me:
    - Super long lugs
    - Unframed date window! 6 o'clock position would have been nicer, with blue background instead of black. A no-date option would have been nice too.
    - Bracelet is too thin and I'm also not a big fan of the butterfly clasp.
