- I've always wanted to see an unedited start-to-finish video of Hole in the Wall from Mammoth Summit. So here you go. It may not be the prettiest execution, but it's something. My GoPro has a roughly 8-minute cap per file, so the only edits are a second or two between the first and second 8-minute chunks, and the second and final chunk. Each chunk has it's own map and altitude profile overlay (I wish the overlays were for the entire route, rather than within their file chunk, oh well).

I spend a lot of time in Mammoth year round and had hiked the route several times before, also had gps waypoints the first time I did it. While the skiing isn’t hard, if you’re not familiar with the area, it can be tricky as going too low would mean missing it or having to hike uphill and going too high could lead to very dangerous cliffing out.

How did you plan the route to get there? It’s on my bucket list, but my friends and I don’t want to go without a guide 😅

There is a free shuttle that runs on the :15 and :45 every hour during day time between Tamarack Lodge and the Village.

Hey great video, any chance you would like to do this run again tomorrow? Two of my buddies and I have been dying to do it, attempted today however we made a wrong turn somewhere and weren't able to find it. Would love a guide/pointers if you are available, drinks on us afterwards!

@@topcat-ex9oq I wouldn't go anywhere near attempting the route in the immediate aftermath of a snowfall, especially a significant one. Lots of avalanche potential the entire way. Wait until the weather has stabilized for good amount of time, check the Sierra avalanche assessments, do your own assessments, or go with someone who can.
I did it in 2017. I used combination of tracks, Google maps and GPS. The terrain on Google maps ensured I didn't go too low 😁
Just did it again today, just followed the ridge until it goes uphill again, that is where I turn right out of bounds and drop about 50meters, whilst continuing going the same direction the ridge goes. Snow was mixture of concrete, icy and firm powder, was fun and easier to find than i remember. Runs to the sides of it look good to, just need to get it in a descent powder day. Same for Kiwi Flats, the only run on the map I haven't done...have you done Kiwi?

Is there no boundary line?
There is. I cross it at about the 2:14 mark. Not obvious in the video, but pretty obvious if you're there. There are skull & crossbones out of bounds warning signs spaced sporadically across the borders.
