Just another example that Hollywood has no writers. They rely on spectacular visuals campy humor which usually falls flat. And yeah it looks great but have you ever talked to a beautiful person? And as soon as they open their mouth and said something stupid, you kind of looked at him in a different light? That's this movie.
I just wanna say, I really enjoy this video format of the "Untitled Review Show". It's not as overly produced as the rest of the content on the channel, and it feels like Doug is just casually talking to us telling about the last movie he watched. It feels cozy c:
This movie could have been a Disney+ series. I liked the movie, I just think it had too many good ideas and not enough time to explore them all. Kang was brilliant, just not used enough. It would have been cool to see how he actually took that city. I’m excited to see his variants though. It’s gonna be fun seeing him pop up across the multiverse.
I’ve had this same thought with some of the recent movies. Thor: Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would have benefited from being mini-series. While I personally enjoyed them, they both felt strangely rushed and condensed.
You're not wrong. Rewatching the trailers shows that a lot of scenes were cut to fit 2 hours of time. There has to be a bunch of deleted scenes for this film.
@@BB-fy8kn the movies lately have been "We need to get to here." "Okay boss how do we get there?" "Don't know, don't care." This outing was only to introduce Kang, that's the payoff.
They should’ve had the quantumrealm stuff and meeting Kang be a series and then used Paul Rudd’s idea for an actual third film (he wrote a script where the ant-family fought AIM and MODOK)
@@GoodAtStuf the crap disney plus shows were done under bob paycheck. Now that he's gone, Iger is more focused on quality shows rather than pumping out so much content.
I personally thought the humor was more hit than miss, and I really liked Scott’s actions through this with the humor and the action acting like a dad telling bad jokes for the sake of a bad joke, and every time Cassie is slightly in danger he immediately leaps to protect her so that was nice. There were a couple things they should’ve followed through with though. 8/10 would recommend.
@@liamphibia she gave him shit at the beginning but by the midway point it was pretty clear she loved him a lot imo... which is pretty realistic for teens. they don't fully appreciate their parents until shit gets real lol
I enjoyed the scene where Ant-Man transports to the Quantum Realm to catch Eric rolling down the hill in his broken wheelchair, falls into lake when Mac and Kang find him.
They weren't afraid of him, they just knew he'd died and figured "If they could kill one of us then maybe it's time we do something". They don't seem to know about the Kang that Sylvie killed.
@@ShadowSonic2 Going with the knowledge that they banished him and his exclamations about pruning timelines "before things get worse." He could most certainly be an unreliable narrator.
Seems like He Who Remains and Kang The Conquer are the 2 majorly powerful and badass variants. All the others are just playing in the shadows of those 2. I was disappointed that they seemingly killed him off, but then it said "Kang will return", so I'm looking forward to seeing him actually be super threatening. He's no Thanos. He's more of an Ultron right now.
Feels like the MCU has been so successful that it outlives its natural lifespan. It carries on in a zombified state a la the Simpsons. It will never recapture its glory days, but still too lucrative to get outright canceled.
@@BuzzardPlanet97 Indeed. What should've been a passing of the torch has instead been a fumbling of the torch into a lake, and a halfhearted attempt to keep the remaining embers going. Out of everything they announced for phase 5, the only thing that interested me was the Thunderbolts movie, as I like the idea of the Thunderbolts: a group of former villains who decide on their own to try to turn over a new leaf by being heroes, and they've managed to ruin it before they've even begun making the film just by announcing the roster: 1. They're working on behalf of the mysterious employer of that person who's been recruiting characters like Yelena and John Walker, so they're not deciding on their own to become heroes. 2. Zemo isn't in the roster despite him having founded the team in the comics and being one of the MCU's best remaining villains. 3. Most of the roster aren't even former villains: half of them were brainwashed, and one was at most antagonistic (and that was during a mental breakdown). There are only two that are actually former villains: Ghost and Red Guardian.
If you compare these films to the solo films in phase 2 and 3, they're actually better on average. There are exceptions. I wouldn't say this movie was better than Winter Soldier or Guardians 1. But its better than Thor 2 and Iron Man 3. Its better than the first Captain America and Hulk movie. I'd honestly say its probably the best Ant Man movie. People are just being harsher now because Endgame felt like a natural end. A lot of people want to be done with the MCU and, instead of just admitting that they personally are fine with leaving it at that, they need to justify it by acting like everything after that is just trash. The whole "its bad now" phenomenon happens a lot and isn't unique to the MCU. And usually, it's a BS. It's just lapsed fans being extra critical because they feel they've "outgrown" it. When really the current content is, on average, better than what they revere. I'm not just a "blind fanboy" either. I just saw the movie today. Like three weeks after its release.
It really feels like the script went through ALOT of drafts and several key plot points were either changed or completely replaced multiple times. It's so weirdly overstuffed and underdeveloped at the same time. My main gripe was with the character arc of Scott Lang. My gripe being he didn't have one. They started with the idea of one with his daughter giving him grief over "just because it's not happening to you, doesn't mean it's not happening" which is a great idea for an arc. But then it just doesn't ever come up again. Kang should have offered Lang more time to be with his daughter (like he did in the trailer), Lang should have willingly agreed to it, knowing other universes would be harmed (because what's more "not you" than another universe?) rather than being co-erced by Cassie being tortured, and Kang should have kept his word. Lang would have then had a mistake he would have needed to correct, he would have learned a lesson and redeemed himself at the end, possibly through sacrificing himself (the most "you" thing there is) or trapping himself in the quantum realm and away from Cassie. Wouldn't have been super original, but it would have made for an actual story rather than just a bunch of stuff happening.
Yeah I felt very mislead by one of the trailers, emphasizing Scotts lost time with Cassie. I thought this would be a movie all about the two of them, but instead the focus lies mostly on Michelle Pfeiffer for the first half of the movie?? Its fine to give her some screen time, since she had barely anything in the last movie, I am super not invested in Janet, and they don't really do anything cool with her. Just a lot of hurdles to end up at "I helped the bad guy, but stopped and got rescued". Kang enters the movie too late. Bill Murray's Krylar was nothing but a plot contrivance. A friend og my who's not as into these movie thought Bill Murray was the main bad guy and the before mentioned "Conquerer", so I guess it works for some audiences, but not the nerds like us. Overall fun movie, but it should have been more personal like the other Ant-Man movies.
I honestly had a great time with it. The characters were all well done. Kang was a great villain. The world was creative. It was just a blast for me. Sure, there are some issues. Some characters could have done more than they did. Some characters felt a bit wasted here and there. Apart from that though, really enjoyed this :)
@@captainjakemerica4579 we still don't know, but I think he is the real deal and Marvel would brought him back. Especially after all the praise for the character and Jonathan Majors
I absolutely loved this movie. It was funny, weird, and epic. Most of the new characters were memorable, especially Kang and Veb. M.O.D.O.K. never bothered me since we've seen regular M.O.D.O.K. in so many cartoons and games, in fact he was a standout for me. The heroes are as engaging as ever, even if Wasp is sidelined.
Actually really enjoyed the film. First half will admit is a tad bit rough feels kinda thor love and thunder with the humor and jokes but unlike that movie this film did know when to STFU and tell a story which is nice. Second half really picks up and does some great action, really nice character moments and MY GOD Jonathan Majors really did steal the show as Kang he was intimidating yet reasonable to bargain with and talk with and for a conqueror he actually takes to the battle field and gets the job done instead of just letting others do his job for him entirely which I greatly appreciate!
I honestly enjoyed the first film of Phase 5. Every single actor was phenomenal (especially Jonathan Majors as Kang, a disturbing, creepy and powerful villain brilliantly performed), the Quantum Realm may look similar to Pandora but it’s still imaginative and interesting, the action scenes are well shot and has some funny moments. Overall, a decent & fun way to open the new phase. I give it a 7 out of 10.
I still think “he who remains” was the most creepy. Jonathan Majors + the script did that so much justice. I feel like this movie the script didn’t allow Kang to be the best executed
@@kdusel1991 “he who was remains” was better executed because he had a consistent tone; is what I’m saying. Has nothing to do with Kang not being a threat
This to me feels like another case of critic/audience divide, especially given how a lot of the critic criticisms either are coming from a non-Marvel or nerd perspective, or take what are undoubtedly subjective elements of the film that'll vary from person to person and turning them into objective flaws that damn the film. Quantumania is not amazing or anything but I feel it was a good time that takes a much more character-driven and fantastical look at its characters. It's far from the zany heist films of its previous two entries, and that is IMO not a bad thing, just different. I can see why some may not like it, but to use that as a means to say the film is objectively bad or just as bad as Eternals and Love & Thunder is going too far.
@@jeremyadler9620 I didn't really like Love and Thunder, I felt the over reliance on jokes absolutely destroyed the tone. And I liked Christian Bale as Gore but he was underutilized. But the fact that you loved it is fine with me! I'm not judging you.
I assumed Scott was saying "we had a deal" so much was to distract from their plan. (focusing on the deal instead of the real plan) MODOK looks so bad and i loved every second
I think MODOK works though, but I prefer the patton oswalt version of him. I busted out laughing every time he appeared on screen without the mask. He was so creepy looking but hilarious
2:15 "This is a script that feels 20 years old." Me: "Oh, so like the 90s..." "...these are jokes and writing that would be fine in an early 2000s movie." Me: "Fuck I'm old"
When Cassie stood over M.O.D.O.K and said you don't have to be a dick during the climax, it hit me. This feels like a spy kids/sharkboy and lavagirl movie. A movie that has conflicting tone, bad writing and comedy, 95% CGI, spykids like costumes, old actors making strange cameos you didn't expect, and of course a villain with a giant stretched head.
Ok I won't go into detail about who M.O.D.O.K. is but I will tell you one thing: Once he revealed his giant ass head, my audience instantly got super ANTsy and we're straight up uncomfortable of what they were even gazing upon. I feel really really sorry for the VFX artists. If you know, then you know.
I'm really glad you acknowledge the amazing world and characters, it's crazy how good the effects are. We differ a bit on a bunch of stuff, but definitely understandable. Also, MODOK seems perfect to me. No really other way I could imagine them doing him. A 7.5/10 for me.
I actually loved it, but if I had to change one thing: it'd be an extra 15-20 minutes in the beginning so we could establish Scott, cassie, and their dynamic a bit more before they entered the quantum realm, but that's my take. Definitely the best ant man movie imo
As much as this movie had problems, I absolutely have to disagree here. I thought Kang was great. I’m someone who wasn’t excited to see him in the slightest and I was blown away by Jonathan Majors as the character.
I didn't hate this film the best part of it was the main villain but yeah it's a bit of a letdown in comparison to the first two films but thanks for giving your overall thoughts on this film Doug I really needed to hear this ❤️👍
I watched this today and I can't believe you did the review today! The film was actually delayed in the cinema we went to because it wasn't delivered early enough 😂
I liked this movie a lot. Its a lot of fun and feels like and interesting way to expand the mcu in terms of genre potential. Also MODOK was always going too look goofy in live action. This made more sense because the quantum realm was already so bazaar that he didnt look out of place. If they actually had him be aldrich killian back in iron man 3. it would look much worse. There was a lot of heart in this movie. It was scifi fun with a great villain and nice family dynamic.
Just one thing, the reason why they bring up the whole "You broke your word!" thing is because Janet promised to help Kang before and she went back on HER word. Which is why he later decided to do the same thing to Scott with Cassie.
As a massive fan of MODOK, I LOVED how much I hated it. The man was absolutely uncanny but in the best possible way. Every single time I looked at his stupid big face, I cracked up. It's mostly how close his nose is to his mouth and how far apart his eyes are that does it for me. And attempting not to spoil, what they do with him at the end with what 1 of his last lines about being a d!ck and what his whole arc becomes, I just couldn't believe my eyes. This was pure hilarity.
Untitled Review Show is always such a highlight to watch. Especially for movies, I'm not really sure I want to see. That being said...there is a Winnie the Pooh horror movie, Blood and Honey, I would love to see you review. Or recover from.
I really did enjoy the film and the biggest part of the film is kang himself seeing this version Particularly because of the ending where you realize his main goal was horrible but considering why he was doing it stopping him might have been a mistake
I particularly didn't enjoy the humour in MODOK's last scene. It could've been played very sincerely and given a complete character journey, but instead it was just a complete joke.
It's exactly like the Thanos buildup. His extended cameo in Loki is akin to Thanos at the end of Avengers. His appearance in Loki was meant to set up his entire overarching influence on the Multiverse saga. Then there are his appearances in the mid and post credit scenes meant to set up Loki season 2 and the Kang Dynasty. I said this to someone else that all this setting up upstages the films themselves, harming the individual story's narrative. Feeling the need to shell out an unpolished project just so that it can set up "the future" of the Multiverse saga.
I liked it, but I came away asking "what was that about?" Was it about family? No, they are a family but it's not really about family. Is it about secrets? No, one of them has secrets but they glossed over it pretty quick. Does it have any themes at all? Not really. Do the characters develop? Not really, none of them are changed at all by the end. Okay, so was there symbolism? Was the multiverse maguffin supposed to symbolize something? Not really. Kang didn't even steal the show again, Johnathon Majors was the best thing about Loki, but I found the exiled Kang underutilized, they just didn't give him enough to work with. It looked spectacular though. And I am more excited for Dynasty of Kang after watching this. I'm guessing it's Secret Wars 3, the Doomworld one, except with Kang instead of Doom. Nerd in me is happy with the continuity porn, and child in me is just stoked to see cool explosions and a fantastical world, but writer in me feels like the script was underwritten, and it shows. I don't expect that much from a Marvel movie, I don't expect it to be the smartest, but I'd like it to be about something.
I could describe this movie as a love hate relationship. It’s not bad, it exceeds most of the phase 4 movies, but their are way too many plot holes in this movie. The quantum realm is gorgeous, beautiful than anything in phase 4. My main problem with it was the purpose of each character in this film. It has a good role for Scott, Cassie, Janet, and Kang but not for the rest of them. Hank is only used for the ant idea, in which we saw them go into the realm, but after a minute it’s a stupid idea. Wasp is completely useless in this film which sucks cause she actually is a badass character, even in the end when she does something it’s just lame. MODOK was good up till the end. I would’ve loved him to survive to see AIM thrive again, it could’ve gone for content for other shows. 7.8/10 for me
People say there's an audience/critic divide on this but I don't really think there's much of one honestly. Average RT critic rating is about a 5.6 out of 10, which is basically mediocre. Average audience rating is around 84%. I know that seems high, but for massive tentpole flicks like this for properties with huge fanbases, that's not great. Folks that think the movie is just okay tend to not be as motivated to go online to give it a rating. For example, Thor L&T got 77% from the audience, Eternals got the same. Its very similar to Cinemascore, where mid-tier movies tend to be in the B to B+ zone. Anything in the 75-85% range is "meh" basically. Not horrible but not great. Since critics don't have the option of simply not rating a movie they feel is just "okay" and face much harsher consequences (losing the trust of their audience) for recommending mediocre movies, their final RT score will tend to be lower. The 48%/84% critic/audience split on RT shows a lot more agreement than people realize.
Personally I don't think the MCU needs to go bigger, I would rather they try to tell smaller character driven stories instead of the same Save the World plot.
I loved MODOK. I've never read the comics but as soon as I saw MODOK on screen I applauded them finding a way to make an obvious comic book cartoon villain kinda work in the real-adjacent universe of the MCU. People complain about how he was portrayed but I think it works 100%. Looks weird? Checks out. Acts unhinged? Checks out. Can't be taken seriously? Checks out.
I’m gonna say this. I like this movie. This movie is over hated. Maybe some people don’t like the changes, or ideas. But I’m gonna offer a hypothesis. I believe movies in phase 4 weren’t meant to be the biggest films. I believe Phase 4 is meant to be a build up to what happens later. But after Endgame, everyone thought these movies would all be as good as No way home or Shang-chi. But since some are just meant as Set-up people are underwhelmed and the hype built up in their head is destroyed and they get annoyed
This was literally a MCU rip off of Star Wars and I wasn't the only one in the theater yesterday that thought so. So many scenes, aspects and even character traits are ripped almost beat for beat from the OG Star Wars trilogy. It's a bad MCU movie, but if they'd marketed this as a MCU Star Wars parody it would've been a solid 3 maybe 4 out of 5 stars.
Each of the reviewers I usually trust or lean toward on RUclips are borderline trashing the movie..... But each of their comment sections are filled with the majority of their subscribers saying the movie was pretty good... Hmm... Usually when we all agree that a movie is bad, it is like that across the board (BvS, Thor: Dark World, Wonder Woman 1984) Something is off right now and there is a clear divide. And the fact that I Love and Thunder is FRESH on Rtten Tomatoes and this movie is ROTTEN is a downright travesty and shows their system is broken LOL
My biggest problem with this movie. How does time in the quantum realm actually work? For Scott it was 5 hours quantum time and 5 years real time, but for Janet it was 30 years quantum and 30 years real time? I really don't get it. The longer the movie kept going I kept thinking "man, all this time down here must be years on earth" but it wasn't? Scott says something like "we don't know if we've been gone 10 minutes or 10 years" but it doesn't matter because when they come back everything's exactly the same. No one knew Scott was gone, so no time passed. Imagine if in the end when they jumped through the portal, they came back in the middle of Kang Dynasty, and the world was half destroyed or something. That would've been a really dramatic ending that really would've set the tone for what's to come. Honestly I didn't think this movie was awful especially compared Thor 4, but that's my biggest complaint.
The problem is the movie isnt really about ant man, he’s just the horse that carries you threw, and unlike avengers movies it’s not really about kang either, it’s about other thing and people worried about the future people dont really want, that’s why they’ve been failing
i loved it. a great introduction to Kang, and much better than Thanos' introduction. I also found basically all the jokes hit. Its gorgeous to look at and I feel like Kang and Hank and Janet and Hope and Cassie were all fantastic. Scott, was Scott. His performance wasn't groundbreaking but it was more than serviceable, he switches between comedic and dramatic really well imo. Bill Murray was underused. I wish he played a bigger role in the film.
I personally love this movie. It was well-paced, it looked great and the action is amazing. Kang was also an amazing villain and I can't wait to see him in more of the movies.
*Spoliers I guess* Kang should have killed Antman. The build for Kang as a threat should be treated different than Thanos with Kang killings/winning against hero’s in their own worlds. Antman just should not be able to stand a chance against Kang. On an additional note I am really obsessed with Kang’s ship. I just want to see more of him traveling in it.
Quantamania, to me, has the same strengths and flaws as Multiverse of Madness, where more focus was put into the visual effects and the villain than the writing and main characters. Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conquerer was surprisingly effective, and I don't think he's just another Thanos, despite their somewhat similar end goals, and he was honestly the best thing about this film. The other characters, especially AntMan himself, fall flat, which is a disappointment cause it seemed like they were setting up an arc for the character, and building on the fact that he missed his daughter's formative years and their relationship following Endgame, but it doesn't really go anywhere. Hank Pym doesn't really do anything, Hope is just there for "emotional support" and Janet is just the "exposition character" but all that I could forgive if there was a different ending to the film, which I only thought of after watching the movie; Spoiler Warning: What if, after all the characters escaped the Quantam Realm, its revealed that they were gone for years (three, four or five) and in that time, an alternate Kang ended up destroying everything, or caused some major catastrophe. Or they end up in an alternate timeline where Kang reigns supreme. Kang did warn Scott that something big and terrible was gonna happen if he didn't get free, and this could've been a payoff instead of just a tease at the end. I know they're building it up, but giving a glimpse of his potential destruction could've been a great way to start off Phase 5 and differentiate it from the others with this air of dread and suspense to it, as well as cement Kang as a powerful force to be reckoned with. Of course, Marvel wants to play it safe, and not do anything that could disrupt the delicate balance.
It's a pretty cool movie, I was about to say it's just "ok" but honestly it's an average MCU movie but that's above average as action movies go in general. It feels a lot of people were spoiled by the MCU and now use it as the standard, setting their bar too high, forgetting what really are the boring average movies. Those that you catch on tv at random, see the protagonist is a guy who must save his girlfriend from a drug lord, there's a chase scene like you've seen a million times, and then you switch channel.
the movie was fine for the most part. the main cast is great as usual. J Majors especially, he was fantastic. while Kang himself wasn't really the new-Thanos as we were hoping from this movie, he was decent enough for the movie and I loved every scene he was in🔥 Kathryn Newton did a decent job, wish they could've kept Emma Fuhrmann, but Kathryn did fine too🤷♂. the action sequences were pretty good, mainly the fight between Scott and Kang, that was the best one, I enjoyed how wacky and weird the Quantum realm civilizations are, it's pretty fun, and yeah Credit scenes were worth the price of admission alone because they were both pretty dope. I wish Kang had more screentime though, (I mean he had more screentime than Gorr that's for sure lol, but I wish we could've seen More MORE of him just because he was such an onscreen delight.) Bill Murray also should've had more scenes imo, I wish that one freedom fighter guy didn't die, I liked him the most out of the other ones. was actually lowkey sad about that lol. and if there was anything I did Hate about the Movie, it was definitely MODOK. not his design, it's prefect and just as goofy lookin as I'd want it to be. but I hated how they used his character. it started off fine at first, but they leave him off in the shittiest way. and it really annoyed me. like they did MODOK dirty in this💀. but to be fair, maybe some other Variant of MODOK out there could make up for what Peyton did to this version. 😕 Personal Rating: 7/10
After the disappointments of Doctor Strange 2 and Thor 4, this movie seemed like a breath of fresh air, like the MCU I used to love still might be in there somewhere.
The first antman was solid, I liked that it was 'smaller' then other marvel movies. It had a likeable lead and side characters, the villain was decent. Definitely one of my favorites Ant-man and the wasp on the other hand was okay, I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted too. Ant-man was still a likeable lead, the shrinking and growing where used a bit better than the first and I enjoyed the character of ghost more than I did yellow jacket
Enjoyed the movie a bit more than I did Love and Thunder, but what got me was the overuse of classic situations. "Character is being led down a hall by guards, glances at the gun at their hips, proceeds to fight them off and escape." This happens multiple times in the movie. Or the ever classic, "We rescued some family members but now some others are captured" just kinda wish it wasn't as formulaic with such a crazy realm. Still, quite liked it, want to see more Kang performances wondering how he will act them differently, cause he was no where near what he was in Loki.
Saw it last night with some friends of mine. We all thought it was good and a good stepping off point for phase 5. I thought the cast did a good job, I absolutely loved Jonathan Majors as Kang and I'm excited to see where he ends up in the future. I felt that how the film ended was the only negative. I felt that Kang should've escaped the quantum realm and left Scott trapped there. I also thought Cassie was mostly fine until the third act. And strangely, Hope was wasted. MODOK was hilarious to look at and he worked well as a secondary villain, but I feel like he should've killed Hank. I also really enjoyed the look of the quantum realm and the weird creatures there. Overall I give the movie a 7.5 out of 10.
It has a 51% on Rotten Tomatoes for a good reason. I think it was mid and would have been better if Cassie wasn't a bitch towards Scott for not being in her life. If he was in and out of prison all her life before AND after becoming an Avenger I'd understand, but spoiler alert, he's only been in jail twice before this movie takes place and she only seems to be mad about him being stuck in the quantum realm. However if she knows why he was in there for 5 years (and the movie alludes that she does), than she has no reason to be mad at him. The only time her getting upset with him made sense was when Scott didn't want to help the rebels in the quantum realm. But the other little disses she makes about him being gone made me look at her like she was Kate Ward from Army of the Dead.
Hot take: I think IRON MAN 2 is betetr than IRON MAN 3, and THOR 2 didn't suck. On topic: I'll still see this new one, because I never miss a MCU Movie in theaters (except for ETERNALS, waited until it was on Disney+ to watch that), and I WILL go see it in IMAX 3D for the full trippy effects.
This was mostly a popcorn flick for me, the setting was extremely bizarre and beautiful and as noted the various background characters were extremely colorful. Despite Michelle Pfeiffer being outstanding in emotional spots and Jonathan Majors doing far more than he should've been able to do with how little development Kang had, everything else was a little too forgettable. Kang should have gotten far more time to show why he was feared as the conqueror rather than just a quick few flashback images and everyone saying he's a conqueror. M.O.D.O.K. I think would have been better suited as the main villain (despite the gonzo design) as he already had some connection to the characters. But as it is, I enjoyed the spectacle but it's going to be one of those movies that is kind of forgettable for me.
The criticism of Kang as a weak villain is a moot point considering this is a purposely weaker, exiled version of the character who absolutely took everyone against him for granted. We'll see the more serious and dangerous versions as the MCU continues into phase 5 and absolutely his most dangerous version in phase 6
I liked this movie. Only thing I'd change is the length. I thought it as very rushed and like you, Iwanted to get to know more about the universe, spend more time to develop characters, etc.
1:173:37 It was pointed out in another review that you can see the outline of their fancy real time vfx room's floor in all the computer generated scenes, and it's true. Look at where the characters are standing; it's a little box, and they're always looking at a flat image that "looks" 3d until you see the line on the floor.
The critic’s score is low but the audience is at eighty five so I think I’ll probably enjoy it. I go into the films with the expectation that it’ll just be fun. I don’t go in with the same expectations as I have for say a Jordan peele movie
Audience scoring is unreliable as more often people vote in extremes of either 1/5 or 5/5, even when they give a mixed comment The RT audience scores for phase 4 MCU films would suggest that audiences loved all of it
I will admit that it was pretty good movie but I will agree with Doug that the script is pretty weak Doesn’t detract from my enjoyment but still, I’d want this to be a little stronger
To my opinion, the worst character besides the obvious, (wont spoil) is Cassie Lang actress.... she took away all the tension that any other character in the movie was so hard trying to build. Whenever it was her turn... it really felt like she was TRYING to act but NOT QUITE... if you know what I mean. To me she, in every tense scene, would just remind me "ah right, nothing here is real its just a movie with a bunch of actors"... really disappointing. I would take her back to acting school.
@@mafeuk if you see the movie you can judge by yourself. Her stressed face, her suprised face, her distraught face, her desperate face... they all look the same: open mouth, big eyes, her eyebrows not even moving. Anyway, just my take.
Marvel Phase 4 is over? It feels somehow incomplete without an Avengers movie to wrap it up. True, the first Ant Man movie ended Phase 2 and Spider-Man: Far from Home was the last movie of Phase 3 but it feels like everything was really building towards the Avengers movie at the end. Honestly, without something to tie it all together, it’s easy to forget that the Shang Chi and Eternals movies even happened.
I liked the movie. Was it spectacular and amazing? No, but neither were the other Ant-Man-movies. I liked seeing more of Cassie and Janet. The only thing I didn't like was how unimportant Hope seamed to be.
I thought it was good. Bill Murray’s cameo could have been cut but I liked that they wanted to explore the quantum realm and using AntMan to do so was an organic way to do that for the MCU.
I think we should remember that this is an early film in the story for Kang there are more films for his character to get better and well I hope it works
one of the things that i found obnoxious was MODOK. now it’s pretty obvious that yea, his design is hella goofy and sometimes he hasn’t been taken seriously, but in it would’ve been better if he had kinda a better story and an actual character instead of him just being a character to laugh at. MODOK is one of those iconic characters but not too iconic, kinda like Spawn or Hellboy, or Sonic in this matter, he’s a character that’s just iconic in most places like comic-con and i thought him being in this movie was awesome until well.. y’know. the only reason why i left at him was bc everyone else’s laughter made me chuckle a few times but the more i looked back at it.. damn they really gave MODOK a dumb look and the cgi was just terrible, don’t why they even bothered giving him the mask when he showed his bad cgi face. the vfx team really need more time and work for each Marvel movies. oh and there was this one guy who absolutely was laughing his butt off of every scene with MODOK
You forgot put an image of the Eternals poster. I think I would really like the Ant-Man movies if they were about Hank Pham and if they were true to how he is in the comics
The movie was good, I don't get all the negative comments. Kind of reminded me of a tamed PG-13 Rick and Morty. It wasn't perfect but I thought it was fun and interesting. I would put this under Thor Ragnarok but not by a lot
Doug’s intro in the beginning pretty much sums up my thoughts like ya the movie’s got it’s flaws most of them in my opinion are in its pacing as this is another movie where I wish Marvel committed to a full 2h run time but I still enjoyed it way more than I disliked it
I’m not going to pretend the movie was great but I had a good enough time. I’m floored by the reception it’s receiving. Some parts of it I actually enjoyed more than Ant-Man & the Wasp.
I saw it yesterday in Japan and it was the first Marvel movie in a decade I've walked out hearing English-speaking and Japanese-speaking audience alike talking about how disappointing it was. It had plot holes, confusing editing choices, no humor, disparate and ineffective messages and attempts of themes. They needed a movie to set up Kang, and that's really all that it did.

Hey does ant man die? I don’t want to pay for a movie if he dies tell me plz!
I’ve had this same thought with some of the recent movies. Thor: Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would have benefited from being mini-series. While I personally enjoyed them, they both felt strangely rushed and condensed.
Agreed. & Loki should’ve been a movie, especially with that twist style ending.
This movie definitely could’ve been a TV show
You're not wrong.

I personally thought the humor was more hit than miss, and I really liked Scott’s actions through this with the humor and the action acting like a dad telling bad jokes for the sake of a bad joke, and every time Cassie is slightly in danger he immediately leaps to protect her so that was nice. My only concern about Kang was the one they killed was the one the rest were afraid of. So how threatening could the rest really be.
They weren't afraid of him, they just knew he'd died and figured "If they could kill one of us then maybe it's time we do something". They don't seem to know about the Kang that Sylvie killed.

@@BuzzardPlanet97 Indeed. What should've been a passing of the torch has instead been a fumbling of the torch into a lake, and a halfhearted attempt to keep the remaining embers going.
Out of everything they announced for phase 5, the only thing that interested me was the Thunderbolts movie, as I like the idea of the Thunderbolts: a group of former villains who decide on their own to try to turn over a new leaf by being heroes, and they've managed to ruin it before they've even begun making the film just by announcing the roster:
@@scarrantsandreviews the only movies you listed I think it’s better than are Thor 2 and the Hulk

I agree! I can't wait to see more of Kang! Jonathan Majors was absolutely phenomenal!!

I'm going to wait until it comes out on Disney+ to watch this movie.
Noticed Doug’s Cognito Inc shirt and got a little teary for Inside Job
MODOK fans are probably more upset that it's a different character that's never been Modok

Janet mentioned time vortexes in the Ant-Man and the Wasp mid-credits scene
The problem is the movie isnt really about ant man, he’s just the horse that carries you threw, and unlike avengers movies it’s not really about kang either, it’s about other thing and people worried about the future people dont really want, that’s why they’ve been failing
Hulk is good and very re-watchable
i loved it. a great introduction to Kang, and much better than Thanos' introduction.
I think everyone wishes that Bill Murray was used more…imagine if he were the villain though? Lol.
I personally love this movie. It was well-paced, it looked great and the action is amazing. Kang was also an amazing villain and I can't wait to see him in more of the movies.
Every time MODOK was on screen I started dying in the theatre
*Spoliers I guess*
Kang should have killed Antman. The build for Kang as a threat should be treated different than Thanos with Kang killings/winning against hero’s in their own worlds. Antman just should not be able to stand a chance against Kang.
On an additional note I am really obsessed with Kang’s ship. I just want to see more of him traveling in it.
Quantamania, to me, has the same strengths and flaws as Multiverse of Madness, where more focus was put into the visual effects and the villain than the writing and main characters. Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conquerer was surprisingly effective, and I don't think he's just another Thanos, despite their somewhat similar end goals, and he was honestly the best thing about this film. The other characters, especially AntMan himself, fall flat, which is a disappointment cause it seemed like they were setting up an arc for the character, and building on the fact that he missed his daughter's formative years and their relationship following Endgame, but it doesn't really go anywhere. Hank Pym doesn't really do anything, Hope is just there for "emotional support" and Janet is just the "exposition character" but all that I could forgive if there was a different ending to the film, which I only thought of after watching the movie;
Spoiler Warning:
What if, after all the characters escaped the Quantam Realm, its revealed that they were gone for years (three, four or five) and in that time, an alternate Kang ended up destroying everything, or caused some major catastrophe.
Personal Rating: 7/10
After the disappointments of Doctor Strange 2 and Thor 4, this movie seemed like a breath of fresh air, like the MCU I used to love still might be in there somewhere.
The first antman was solid, I liked that it was 'smaller' then other marvel movies. It had a likeable lead and side characters, the villain was decent. Definitely one of my favorites
Ant-man and the wasp on the other hand was okay, I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted too.
I kind of liked how this Kang was kind of flashback Rick.
I’m definitely going to see the movie during the weekend.
Same
1:17 3:37 It was pointed out in another review that you can see the outline of their fancy real time vfx room's floor in all the computer generated scenes, and it's true. Look at where the characters are standing; it's a little box, and they're always looking at a flat image that "looks" 3d until you see the line on the floor.
You liked the quantum realm? Really? I felt like I was watching Spy Kids. I Never felt invested on the world or the characters.
The critic’s score is low but the audience is at eighty five so I think I’ll probably enjoy it. I go into the films with the expectation that it’ll just be fun. I don’t go in with the same expectations as I have for say a Jordan peele movie
6.6 imdb...48% rotten tomatoe... 49% on meta... yeah I dont think it's just the critics opinion..
Audience scoring is unreliable as more often people vote in extremes of either 1/5 or 5/5, even when they give a mixed comment
The RT audience scores for phase 4 MCU films would suggest that audiences loved all of it
People need to remember Critics judge a lot harder than audiences do
I’m setting my expectations reasonable with all this in mind. Like I said, I’m just looking for this movie to be fun
@@arrow_of_ravenclaw5155 It's fun, just needs better story management
I'm happy with this one the bit with the ants at the end made me rethink antman power lvl
M.O.D.O.K. is the cringest thing Marvel ever created. I'll just put it like that.
I will admit that it was pretty good movie but I will agree with Doug that the script is pretty weak
Doesn’t detract from my enjoyment but still, I’d want this to be a little stronger
Haven´t seen the movie but if what you are telling is true, based actress, she understands how this all works.
@@mafeuk if you see the movie you can judge by yourself. Her stressed face, her suprised face, her distraught face, her desperate face... they all look the same: open mouth, big eyes, her eyebrows not even moving. Anyway, just my take.
I couldn't be happier that the crappy MCU humor seems to be wearing off on people.
This guy goes from the angry serious nostalgia critic to a smiley perfect person when his glasses come off. Wild.
Which is more scary imo
Marvel Phase 4 is over? It feels somehow incomplete without an Avengers movie to wrap it up. True, the first Ant Man movie ended Phase 2 and Spider-Man: Far from Home was the last movie of Phase 3 but it feels like everything was really building towards the Avengers movie at the end. Honestly, without something to tie it all together, it’s easy to forget that the Shang Chi and Eternals movies even happened.
Sooooo true. The MCU is a mess.
AntMan is in the MCU is wholesome vibes. Go in expecting that and you’ll have a great time.
Phase four has been awesome
MODOK must be weird, hideous, ridiculous and funny, so i think they deserve a 8/10 for this
You forgot put an image of the Eternals poster.
I think I would really like the Ant-Man movies if they were about Hank Pham and if they were true to how he is in the comics
7:05 Disney is definitely going downhill
So I've finally decided my future lies, beyond the Yellow Brick Road...! Ah...! Ah....!
The movie was good, I don't get all the negative comments. Kind of reminded me of a tamed PG-13 Rick and Morty. It wasn't perfect but I thought it was fun and interesting. I would put this under Thor Ragnarok but not by a lot
That post credit scene was bonkers I cant wait!!!
Doug’s intro in the beginning pretty much sums up my thoughts like ya the movie’s got it’s flaws most of them in my opinion are in its pacing as this is another movie where I wish Marvel committed to a full 2h run time but I still enjoyed it way more than I disliked it
Exactly, throw she-hulk into that list too. That show was awful!!
Jonathan Majors has become the best MCU villain so far ;)
Not even close,Thanos was still better. Majors is fine, but way they portrayed Kang in this movie it felt like anyone could play the role.
Fake, Thanos the goat
Cap
@@matthewmuir8884👍👍👍. Jonathan Majors deserves better
1:32 - 1:39 😩😫🤦♂️Oh please don't...
