I was an elementary school teacher for 25 years, the last 20 at just one school. I was always pleasantly amazed when one of my old students, now an adult, stopped by to say hello and thank you. This reminds me of that. ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
I most certainly did. It is such a beautiful song. I am not a musician but love music and am a connoisseur of it. A fantastic piece of music and a fantastic film.
This movie came out when I had just got into middle school and it was inspired me to leave the choir and join the band. One of the best and happiest decisions I ever made... Still have and play my clarinet 25 years later!!
Similar - I remember seeing this poster prominently on the wall of the band teacher in middle school whenever I went through the room (we had a separate room for orchestra, but we would need to walk through to get to the storage for the music department). It turns out that a friend from high school eventually went on to be the band teacher at my old middle school - it's strange to think that poster might still be on his wall after all these years.
1997 Middle school I was in the symphonic band, we practice this piece for 6 months. I will never forget when I held the last note on my trombone and looked at the conductor he was crying. When I saw this movie recently, I now understand why. Mr. Weaver, I hope you are alive and well! I wish we can play this one more time sir. Thank you!
to all who read this, and all who don't...sending you infinite peace, perfect health, abundant wealth, joyous freedom, and unconditional love... 🙏🏽💜💜💜💜💜🙌🏽
Within us all is a heart and a soul. It's the divinity that is God's gift to each and every one of us at birth.......to have the capacity to L♥️VE unconditionally with compassion and understanding. May we all use our God given gifts to let that divinity be the healing force that brings PEACE, JOY and COMFORT to every heart with love........grace 💌 . .
For Kamen fans, Eric Clapton just released his 24 Nights orchestral set on DVD/CD which was arranged and conducted by Michael Kamen, including his Concerto for Electric Guitar composed specifically for Clapton.
This music says so much about the movie itself, and Richard's performance as he conducts is his absolute best, hands down. An amazing moment in movie history that's too sadly overlooked.
I love towards the end when that trumpet hit, then the french horns answer, then he hits you with the guitars. Wow. I just love that part. Just the way it hits you. Always loved it, sense it came out.
I did. In the movie theater, beside a school teacher I was in love with. It meant a lot to both of us. Me, because of all the lives that Mr. Holland touched, who came back to honor him and help him realize his dream.
I love this film. Every time I watch this and listen to the music it brings tears to my eyes.Very moving piece indeed.A music of, pain, love and triumph.Just beautiful.
When I first saw this in the 1990s as a child, it inspired me to keep my love for music and singing alive the rest of my life. Also, Richard Dreyfuss, imo was robbed of a Golden Globe and an Oscar award for his performance as Glenn Holland. Though I am very pleased to discover he was nominated for both at least. ✨️🎼🎵🎻🎺🎷🥁🎸🎶✨️
You can feel Michael Kamen's energy and spirit in every note. The end of the movie had me in happy tears. This piece is simply brilliant. Brilliant and beautiful.
Teachers can make a difference. Mr Holland’s Opus is one of my favorite movies. I wish now as an adult that, I would have been a better listener and student. Signed, Lifelong Learner
This majestic piece of music is wonderful. It's moving, inspiring, and the music is put together in such a way you are very moved by the score it's truly inspiring. It evokes such emotion to bring a tear to your eye while listing to it. It's truly a WONDERFUL piece that I've heard anywhere.
The song is so great and relaxing to listen to. I rather watch Richard Dryfuss (Mr. Holland) direct the symphony during this song. His facial expression is both priceless and memorable
Beautiful and inspiring,I first heard this piece of music as a sophomore in high school in my music class....everyone else was paying no attention to it,but my eyes and ears were captivated by the emotion not only on richard dreyfuss' face but also just how much raw power and emotion was in the music. To this day it one of the few movies that can make me shed a tear.kudos to the composer.Kids these days don't know what they are missing and it's a shame :(
This was a wonderful movie. I myself am in the music arts and work with the deaf community, so it hits home! If there is a longer version of the symphony, I'd love to hear it! Beautiful music!
2:04 - 2:19 : The images of his son Cole as an adult, his wife Iris, and his best friend Coach Bill Meister with the tear in his eye watching Glenn Holland compose are burned into my brain with this section.
Oh america! How we used to love you so much we wrote symphonies in your honor. Now, we try to burn you down over unrelenting hatred of one man. I pray your best days lay ahead.
Now that said man is on his way out (although clawing and screaming the whole way) I think we've taken a first step. Joyous music such as this is in order.
I love this song. I forgot about it and just found it again. I'm going to lift such heavy weights to tbis song. Push past old limits and create new ones. Let's go people, let's jam!
That is so true.. I was in choir for 4 years and my choir director who was also a band director always impressed this movie upon us.. He also said he wished he could do to some of us what he did to the wrestler/football player with the helmet and a drum stick XD
An excellent and outstanding symphony!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A very nice blend of classical and modern instruments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The electric guitars especially bring out the epicness in this piece!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have seen this movie quite a few times and it is wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Michael Kamen was a true genius to come up with something like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a REAL treat to the ears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brilliance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHEER BRILLIANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Ive heard this song countless times now. If I go too long without it, it starts playing in my head. The producers shouldve added the actual orchestral version video clip on the end after the movie was over.... a fitting tribute to one of the greatest pieces of music written.
I use to whistle and hum this back when i worked at this fiberglass plant. I hated that place so bad, wrote a bad review about working there, but this music got me thru each shift!
@Kazuo1G You're absolutely right. He felt every nuance, every dynamic, every musical annotation, every unique note for every unique instrument. It was all from his heart and his absolute love for music. He was successful in getting his emotions from his heart, to his brain, to sheet music, to the minds of others through each instrument, then into the hearts of all the people he affected. Beautiful piece and movie. God bless!
I just watched the movie today, and I must say that it brought me to tears. This piece of music is a masterpiece, and the movie is absolutely amazing. If anyone has not seen this movie, I reccomend rushing to your nearest blockbuster and trying to find it, and if that doesn't work, use an online movie rental site.
Great song by Michael Kamen. He was a great composer. What I really loved about this particular song, was how it really fit the personality and life of the character Glen Holland. I particulary loved that Kamen used Mr. Holland's love of John Lennon (of The Beatles) to end the song. The first time I heard this song in the theaters, I recongnized the ending as a tribute to The Beatles song. And I thought it brought the music to an end, perfectly.
Just rewatched this film on Disney+, and once again cried multiple times throughout--it is such a brilliant, powerful movie, and this scene is just...indescribably beautiful. What a majestic composition...the trumpet fanfare answered by the French horns at 2:54 gives me chills every time.
The most beautiful piece of music ill never get tired of listening to this masterpiece. Was my dad fav part of the movie. I think of him with a smile when i listen to it. X mr holland opus an amazing movie x
@HDvideosaregood If you think about it, in the film, this was ONE man (a High School music teacher, no less) composing an entire symphonic piece. Think of one person doing an entire Leonardo-Da-Vinci-like painting from moderate art experience. (like shading, color theory, shapes, perspective, and other stuff you learn in college.) So if you think about it, yes, It's brief, and it's only one song, but it's got a lot of heart and soul put into it.
I want to find the DVD of this. Maybe the extra features will include information about The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, which was founded by Michael Kamen and of which Eddie Van Halen is a great benefactor. They help out the music programs of underserved school districts.
There's something so very moving about this whole piece. It is truly a gift to be able to write something so magnificent......yes, brings me to tears everytime. g 💌
Almost the same in my case. The first time i ever saw the movie i almost cried. If i see it again i can also feel tears coming. And Mr. Holland's Opus is the very only movie that have done that to me!
It’s interesting (and funny)....notice in the film when the electric guitars kick in Richard D. has a smile on his face....oddly enough he has said he can’t stand that sound.

Who else shed RIVERS of SHAMELESS TEARS when they played this at the end????
+Lil'missScarlett MEEEE.
I most certainly did. It is such a beautiful song. I am not a musician but love music and am a connoisseur of it. A fantastic piece of music and a fantastic film.
Nope, the most emotionnal scene is when he sings for his son Cole... :'(
One of the most inspirational movies I've ever seen!! I cried so much at the end
Lil'missScarlett I did makes me feel proud of being American

I played the clarinet, too. Being in band was one of the best experiences of my life. :)
I got to play the Drumset for this piece in the Houston Symphony today. So much fun.
One of the greatest pieces of music ever written.

After watching this movie I realized my life has a purpose. I am a third year of undergrad pursuing a degree in music education.

wow...beautifully stated truth...thank you for your words & love...love ya, Nicholas 😘
i hope everyone had a teacher like this. i sure did! a few
Ironically for me it has been the band and drama teacher thatbuave been that kind of teacher
English 11 and Latin 1 & 2 teacher - Mr. Stan Moss at Oneonta High School in Oneonta, Alabama
We (my peers class of 78) had a teacher like this. His name was Dick Brunelle. He was both a genius with music and teaching. I miss those days!
Love this gem by Kamen. It's sad that he passed away still early in his career.. he could have done so much more.
Very sad! I didn't know that. Thanks for mentioning it.

This movie makes me feel really proud to be a musician!!!! Music for life!!!
Michael Kamen was a brilliant composer. I had the honor of meeting him a few years before he died while at school. Great composer and great guy.
I love towards the end when that trumpet hit, then the french horns answer, then he hits you with the guitars. Wow. I just love that part. Just the way it hits you. Always loved it, sense it came out.
Nobody blended rock and classical better than Michael Kamen
Yes!
Yes indeed thoes horns were wonderful

I so agree!!
The words of holland in music form
This is such a beautiful piece. Every time I hear this piece , l get the goose bumps.
The late Michael Kamen was phenomenal.....
The amazing Jim Keltner on drums, always adding the perfect touch.
This song still gives me chills every. Single. Time. I'd really love to be able to get a Blu Ray of this movie...
What a love/hate piece of music. I love it coz it's amazing and hate it coz it reminds me of watching this movie with my mom. Miss you, Ma...
i love the intensity.... that's the power of this musical piece.
1:21 i love that hit; never gets old

Is there any way to bring Michael Kamen back to life? Seriously.
I just watched the movie today, and I must say that it brought me to tears. This piece of music is a masterpiece, and the movie is absolutely amazing. We're playing this at the Symphonic level in the All-Region orchestra here...I like it. :D

Any man or woman can create a masterpiece. My old high school band director is writing an opus, and I hope to be on trapset when he does!
Outstanding. One of the most uplifting pieces of mordern music there is. Bravo.
One of the most inspirational movies ever created. Ever.

Check your local library. That's what I did.
There's something so very moving about this whole piece. It is truly a gift to be able to write something so magnificent......yes, brings me to tears everytime. g 💌
This is one orchestral piece I will most definitely NOT get sick of. This has got to be one of the most movable pieces ever composed.
God it’s so great.
This is a symphony made with love and thought it’s incredible it’s it’s it’s. A masterpiece
This is my favorite part of the movie!
This movie and Dead Poet's Society is why I'm a teacher.

Its OK. Tears of joy are just fine. Peace.
My favorite portion: from about 2:10 to the end because of the tuba and trombone parts.
So many parallels between this and The Prince of Thieves Suite
The full version is actually close to 8 minutes long.
Mr. Hollandaise Opus Sauce.
omg this is music of the gods!
Espectacular
