  • Another edited film that was shot by my grandfather's friend. It starts out at the Mann Chinese theater on Hollywood Blvd. There's a shot of the Capitol Records building and some nice shots of Beverly Hills and the beach. Also includes footage from Farmer's Market, San Diego, the Mexican border, and then back home to Widsor Hills, where my grandmother carries her groceries to the car from Von's. The music is Dick Dale's, "Let's Go Trippin'"

How cool that time & place looks. When I was a kid I asked my mum if we could go on holiday in England one day. She explained that's where I lived & it was America that was in all the films on the TV. I had been convinced I was living somewhere like on this video! I was only 4. JaniceSoprano you're so lucky!

@louisa1832 Scarred but LOVED that one-time Cyclone Racer ride. In 68 was a bit older and wanted to ride it for one last time but missed my opertunity as they were in the process of demolishing it, SHAME!!! Did find a FULL Cyclone Racer ticket roll and prised it for many years, but as a kid will do, lost it in tbe followin years...The Pike will always be dear to my heart, FOREVER: THE PIKE... RIP

As we grow older unfortunatebeam, our brain much like an overfull hard drive needs to have some information removed to make room for new information. When we start looking for things from the past to toss out...we tend to forget the bad, and memorialize the good.
I remember the 60's well, I also remember the scare of the Zodiac Killer, Manson, Three assasinations of public figures, the Boston Strangler and the Hippy movement. Yes you are right, there was plenty of bad to temper the good.

Wow, it must have been fantastic, LA before it got ruined by overdevelopment and people. What a great time it must have been, even the cars were so much better.

    Bullshit.
All you're doing is romanticising the past. Everyone who's nostalgic for some period always does that. Hell, I could say the same about when I was a child in the 90s--equally bullshit.
Btw, I highly doubt all the fun was that "clean" in 1940s, 50s, and ESPECIALLY 60s California.
    Get real....thanks for listening.

@louisa1832 I second that Louisa! I sure do remember the Cyclone Racer and the Lauf In' The Dark funhouse. Them two puppets on the top kinna used to creep me out when I was a kid, LOL. Both were like jolly drunks or something, LOL. I rode the Cyclone only once in 65, I was five. I remember being sandwichedin between my Uncle and his girlfriend. I remember not being able to see to much going up the chain lift!!! And not being able to reach the bar so felt as if was gonna fall out!

1958 was the year I moved to LA when I was 7. Gidget had not been released yet. Remember Dick Dale's "Let's Go Trippin" on KFWB channel 98.

I just love all the hateful messages on here, I am 50 and hope I don't become so resentful at 70. I am just enjoying these images, nothing stays the same forever. People come and go rather quickly so instead of posting "liberals ruined it" and blah blah just look at these great vids and enjoy them.

I grew up there in Los Angeles, and I do not remember hearing this song until around 1961. Anybody remember precisely when it did come out? It and "Miserlou" rocked my world in 61-62.

Sad how we've allowed the world to get from this to how it is now; and so relatively quickly. I know, of course, that there were a universe full of inequalities, injustices, bigotries and hypocrisies in action at this period of time and that some inroads have been made in the previous 50 years or so towards addressing these; but, things did look a lot prettier then. No era is entirely without merit and, in a pre JFK assassination world, things certainly looked a lot more optimistic. Seeing footage like this always makes me think of the scene in Back To The Future as Marty Mcflie disappears from a street in the 50s then re-appears in the blink of an eye in the same street in the 80s.

juscurious, so what? I grew up in the 90s/00s and I lived in clean, non-violent, virtually no crime, non-rich neighbourhood. As far as I know, people lived good, respectful, clean lives (as in there were no crime related to people feeding a drug habit, for instance. But I, nor do you, actually know just how "clean" people's lives are, do we.) I went to good schools...everything you said you had, I had too, as did MANY other people of my generation. So what r u sayin? Not much, imho.
