Amazing comparison and a review video. Have my gtx 1660 Ti and wondered how the 3060 ti would compare to it. Exactly as mentioned, most of us are using older cards like me so those comparisons were brilliant. Seeing 1660 super the moments after you talked about price/performance cards made me happy. It seems 3060Ti is enough for us budget players to play at 1440p with RT. Seems like a worthy upgrade if you are using something older than 1060/1660. Even to them if you have the budget. @@atagen2186 The basic gist is that each SM (Streaming Multiprocessor) in Turing had two datapaths which can do 16 FP32 operations per clock, and concurrently 16 INT32 operations. What Ampere did was change it so each SM can instead do 32 FP32 ops or 16FP+16INT like turing. Each FP32 data path is now their definition of a CUDA core, which is why ampere has around 2x the CUDA count as turing but almost the same RT core count. Hey, thanks for comparing the card to older cards. No one seems to do that :/ most people are upgrading from older cards and it’s nice to have someone understand that.
You don't compare at 1080. Is this because a 3060TI, like the 3070, is deemed as "overkill" for gaming at 1080p? I was planning on buying a 3070, as I use my 2060S for streaming and sometimes it can struggle (Though, I also need a new CPU). The 3070 and it's "overkill" for 1080 seemed like more than enough backend to cover the streaming aspect. I'm wondering, since you gloss over 1080 comparisons of the 3060TI, does this card also have plenty of overhead ("overkill") in regards to 1080?? I'd like a 3070, but seeing this is as good as a 2080S, with plenty of room for streaming and running maxed settings at 1080, I might try and grab one of these tomorrow.
I really appreciate that you compared the new card to old ones. I think thats what people are intersted in since most people buy the new stuff to upgrade old.
I watched your other video "Adding value to a crowded market" which was brilliant and led me to try Quake II (NON-RTX). Good game. Others have commented on the comparison of the 970 vs 3060TI but I must comment as well. I have the Sapphire RX 480 Nitro+ OC 8GB edition, which is a mouthful, but it has served me well. It runs 4k60FPS Ultra in the games I play the most like MC, TF2, and a few other titles, but definitely lags behind unless I turn settings down in more modern games. Other reviewers like LTT (Love that channel) haven't impressed me with their reviews or swayed me as much as you have, so good job! I agree with your "outsider low risk" perspective that you feel like you have and I must say that it is a brilliant one that helps the audience feel like they can upgrade to something that will be worth it, since you're using the cards that MANY people still have!
i cant believe this review is done better and packs way more information about gpu and tech market than the reviews from millions subs tech channels!!! 2kliks we want more of your thoughts and reviews about tech any day if they are like this!!! send u love
I was pleasantly suprised that you compared it to the 970. I'm planning on upgrading from the 970 to either 3070 or 3060ti, its insane how big of a difference is with fps between the cards. Also upgrading from a i5 3570k to ryzen 5 5600x. So my fps boost will be crazy. Cant wait.
I’m still on a Radeon RX580 8G, although I still play on 1080p, I’m able to get like 170+FPS on most games with maxed or mixed high settings, it’s super nice to know that older cards still have that power!
Would've been nice to include the 1060 in the comparisons since that's the most popular card according to the Steam Hardware Survey, but since you just used ones you had lying around it's fair enough
I currently have the Radeon RX480 8GB, and it serves me well enough with my 1440p monitor, mostly because I'm playing games with a lag of a few years after release. The 3060Ti would be a perfect upgrade for me when I get to play more recent and future games. But the problem is the price where I live. In my country the 3060Ti is priced at $837 for whatever stupid reason. I can assemble a good PC without a dedicated GPU for that money. A single component is priced the same as all the others combined, it is so annoying. If it was close to the original $400 price, I'd buy it ASAP, but with this price I just can't justify that kind of money on a single component. Thank you for your review, this and other videos across your channels are amazing.
I have 2x 960's (4gb) in SLI. Due to the lack of support nowadays it's really more like having just once 960. I know I need to upgrade but felt like I needed something twice as good as the 960 in my price range (cheap as dirt). While the 3060ti is still a bit too pricey they performance figures in 1440 compared to the 970 give me hope for the 3060. Thanks 2kliksphilip for the ray of sunshine. Hope kliksphilip decides to get an actual bed frame though :)
it's insane that my rx580 is still on top of the price/performance ratio even after all these years, i just regret not having spent the extra money for the 8 gb of vram since it seems that even for 1080p it s approaching not being enough in the close future. So far it's been a great card for 1080p 144hz (even tho i need to lower the graphics in most games, but it s worth it in games like cod modern warfare or other competitive games) and so far there hasn t been anything worth upgrading to for the same price range
Thanks for the review Mr. Sphilip . Looks like a great card, I hope I can get my hands on one. I'm still with a 970 and an 4690k, so it's getting time for some new gear. Dang, ty for this review. I have a RX590 and to see a direct comparison like that really helps. I hope they can actually get the stock going at a decent pace for this one.

@@ProudAmerican0 Philip just showed the facts and the conclusion was that 4GB (or 3.5) was plenty. Only 2020 4K titels demand more, and the 970 cant handle that anyways.
@@SQERDOMOONLIGHT just saying man, laughing at people defending a multi billion dollar company scammazzing their customers
@@ProudAmerican0 true, I dont defend the fact that it was clearly dirty business and false marketing. Not surprising from Nvidia though
People who want 12gbs of vram on 60/70 series cards are stupid. The only resolution that could possibly use that amount is 4K or 8k and those cards are not meant for that high of a res. Even then the closest I’ve seen a game come to using up 8gb of vram is rdr2 at 4K and that game is notoriously poorly optimized
Sadly I don't get paid in euro's so I think I will wait until next generation of cards, 4000 series will eventually drop the price of 3060 so I can buy it in 2 or 3 years I think.
Thanks again for the awesome content. Started following you with CS:GO but stayed for your other channels. Cheers brother.
PS: "Living frugally" is still my favorite video of yours :)
7:20 The reason the CUDA core and other core counts are different is because Nvidia somewhat silently changed the definition of a CUDA core.
interesting - I don't particularly care about RT or Tensor as much as I do CUDA and shading. could you expand, or direct me to some links?
@@atagen2186
The basic gist is that each SM (Streaming Multiprocessor) in Turing had two datapaths which can do 16 FP32 operations per clock, and concurrently 16 INT32 operations. What Ampere did was change it so each SM can instead do 32 FP32 ops or 16FP+16INT like turing. Each FP32 data path is now their definition of a CUDA core, which is why ampere has around 2x the CUDA count as turing but almost the same RT core count.
This is just my understanding, but I've been told it's correct by people who know more than me so I think its more or less accurate.
Look at these 2 whitepapers for more information, I am absolutely no expert.

came here for the videos of the card, quite impressed with flow through fan at this size. this reminds me of my current card, Sapphire Pulse vega 56. I dont game much and I'm having second thoughts getting one
My 1060 just showed signs of dying and I upgraded to a 1660 ti :(
still a fine card and a worthy upgrade, not like anyone could buy the 3060ti within the next months anyways. happy gaming
Bro are you really sad about it?!! I have regular old 1050 and can play Minecraft with shaders so I am happy.
@@unknownsamn7114 i have a 1050ti
honestly the 1660ti will probably keep you going for another 2 years, so simply wait until something like 4060ti drops
My laptop runs a 1660 TI, And it can run GTA at full frames on high graphics. It's a great upgrade from a 1060, with much more performance to deliver, and it's a much more durable choice.
I'm running a Vega56 right now, and you're the only one that directly compares the two cards. You're the best !
turns out ptx 3060ti more powerful than VEGA 56 by 78% in RDR2?
Should I buy it for 1080p 144Hz?
the ultimate card for that res i'd say
but 1440p is it's intended use
I doubt it will be in stock for a long time. Because scalpers and crypto miners you know...
okay, sounds good! Im still using my good old 1050ti ;)

Finally someone compared the newest graphics card to my 970 4gb. Glad to know I'm getting my moneys worth by upgrading to the RTX 3060 TI
I tried to get one but it sold out in literally 5 seconds
Excellent video, and I love your selection of older cards for comparison.
What about VR performance? No one ever talks about VR :/ Could this be the new sweetspot for a new VR rig?
You may not have the same amount of resources than larger tech youtubers, but your presentation is better.
I love how reviewers still talk about the msrp as if its gonna be the real price. Just ignore reality.
I come from a time where MSRP is the average price of a component and there are cheaper or more expensive options for the same GPU.... the year is 2016
Just wait a few months....
Literally just wait until the stock goes back up. A lot of people probably have or will buy it at that price. You're the one ignoring reality.
@@jbess04 haha. Dude, did u lately look up any gpu prices? A 1660ti is starting at 370euros...
Hey, thanks for comparing the card to older cards. No one seems to do that :/ most people are upgrading from older cards and it’s nice to have someone understand that.
"3060 Ti being a $400 card"
Check local retailers - €650
Cry.
you should do a video on whether or not the 10gb of vram for the 3080 is reasonable or not. really enjoy stuff like this from you
You don't compare at 1080.
Thank you for testing the 970. That's my current gpu and I'm thinking this might be a good upgrade!
Seeing all these benchmarks in 2k and 4k in crazy to me. Idk anyone that plays in anything higher than 1080p, even with the fastest cards.
Even without any knowledge about graphic cards i was able to folllow your thoughts. Good job!
As a 970 user I'm very happy to see you compared them. Very unusual, but appreciated!
Nice addition to add older cards thank you
I really appreciate that you compared the new card to old ones.
I think thats what people are intersted in since most people buy the new stuff to upgrade old.
Moving up in the world phil! Never would have imagined that you'd have become a tech channel
i paid attention for about 3 minutes in both times i watched this video, the rest is just ASMR because of your nice voice and awesome music.
A video about DLSS vs Gigapixel AI (realtime, per-game optimized upscaling vs offline, general purpose upscaling) would be so cool.
Amazing details in your work and something extra than simply spouting bunch of numbers.
i cant believe this review is done better and packs way more information about gpu and tech market than the reviews from millions subs tech channels!!! 2kliks we want more of your thoughts and reviews about tech any day if they are like this!!! send u love
The only man I truly trust for GPU reviews
I was pleasantly suprised that you compared it to the 970. I'm planning on upgrading from the 970 to either 3070 or 3060ti, its insane how big of a difference is with fps between the cards. Also upgrading from a i5 3570k to ryzen 5 5600x. So my fps boost will be crazy. Cant wait.
I’m still on a Radeon RX580 8G, although I still play on 1080p, I’m able to get like 170+FPS on most games with maxed or mixed high settings, it’s super nice to know that older cards still have that power!
A much better review than from established hardware reviewers!
Would've been nice to include the 1060 in the comparisons since that's the most popular card according to the Steam Hardware Survey, but since you just used ones you had lying around it's fair enough
I Really appreciate the Rx480 comparison! I have one and have been considering upgrading for a while
I currently have the Radeon RX480 8GB, and it serves me well enough with my 1440p monitor, mostly because I'm playing games with a lag of a few years after release.
I like how this review is much different than all other reviews on youtube
I actually have a 480 and was genuinely curious how it would compare to a current card. Nice review.
Hope kliksphilip decides to get an actual bed frame though :)
thanks for comparing the 3060 Ti to the exact same card i have right now (the MSI 970 4G) really useful
love the tech reviews , keep them coming brother
it's insane that my rx580 is still on top of the price/performance ratio even after all these years, i just regret not having spent the extra money for the 8 gb of vram since it seems that even for 1080p it s approaching not being enough in the close future. So far it's been a great card for 1080p 144hz (even tho i need to lower the graphics in most games, but it s worth it in games like cod modern warfare or other competitive games) and so far there hasn t been anything worth upgrading to for the same price range
the RX 580 is a very solid card
Phillip doing computer hardware reviews? Yes please, do this more often! This is great
Thanks for the review Mr. Sphilip
. Looks like a great card, I hope I can get my hands on one. I'm still with a 970 and an 4690k, so it's getting time for some new gear. Maxwell and Haswell has served me well though, they still hold up on 1080 and in some games 1440, as you pointed out with your beautiful graphs!
Personally I'm still rocking a 970 so this is a wonderful review to put these figures into perspective, great work Phillip as always. Meanwhile gamersnexus and the likes only give a comparison to the 20xx series in their conclusion.....
thank u for the great review again philip i watch your reviews first
Best review I've seen on youtube
thank you! i was waiting for something like this exactly. as an owner of a 1060 6gb version, having just switched to a new 144hz monitor that supports 1440p, i stick with my plan to buy a 3070.
My little potato who was a work PC from 2007 now has a chance to shine.
The card with the white outer casing looks dope 0:50
Such a great card. Awesome for 1440p gaming in my experience so far
Thanks to this video I was able to use the auto notify feature on EVGA's site and get it earlier today :)
I'm still on my trusty GTX 970. This seems like a pretty decent upgrade for a "budget" RTX experience, thanks for the 970 mention in the Conclusion!
