I read this Friday and it was amazing! I did the exact opposite of y’all and breezed through it in about an hour or so. It felt like a fever dream, so I wanted to read it straight through so I could experience that fever dream.
Definitely some Dante’s Inferno in here. I also detected some similarities to Faulkner’s Sound and the Fury (particularly Benjy’s section). Voices felt similar to Virginia Woolf’s The Waves. The story also gave me serious Sylvia Plath vibes as well.
Stream of conscious style narrative to the extreme, but done very well. I wouldn’t say that this story was timeless, as I could detect at least three specific time periods all blended into one. We had early Hillie and Ehud, Ehud just before dying, and then 60 yr old Hillie all alone in her house.
So glad you both introduced this story to me. I’ll definitely come back to it at some point for a much slower read and more in depth analysis. Thanks Noah and Una!

Sounds like a fascinating book. Hadn’t heard of it before. Thanks a lot for putting it on my radar. I haven’t even read any Lispector yet, but recently got some of those.
