I agree with you that a dark theme is much better than a bright one, but having said that, my current favorite is cobalt, because to my eyes the solarized comments are really to dim for comfortable viewing, the cobalt comments are much easier for me to see.
That's completely fair. Allen Bargi over on GitHub made a custom .tmTheme editor (tmtheme-editor.herokuapp.com) that you used to be able to use to make your own fully customizable R-Studio themes. You can still make them manually, but this editor made it much easier when it was up.
Hey there, it should still be the same process in the latest version of R-Studio (2022.12.0+353). If you are using a Windows computer, it will be slightly different. In that case, you will need to click Tools in the top menu bar of R-Studio, then Global Options, and then Appearance. I hope that helps.

I also like Cobalt but my research group likes solarized ones so I have to use them. 😭
