    In this video:
    The all-powerful pharaohs of ancient Egypt were frequently buried alongside a literal wealth of fabulous treasure- treasure that, as you can probably imagine, the pharaohs were very keen to protect. So did they actually have significant preventative measures in place to stop anyone from stealing their stuff after they’d gone a little moldy? Well, yes and no, but when it comes to the idea of elaborate booby traps or puzzles as depicted by Hollywood and in games, definitively no.

    I once had a job raiding ancient Egyptian tombs. I also had to recruit other tombraiders, and I'd get a commission for everyone I recruited. I later found out it was a pyramid scheme.

      Not quite certain but I believe in the novel version of _Raiders of the Lost Ark_ it was said the snakes crawled into the tomb thru a hidden passage to the outside. That was how Indy and Marion got out when he tipped that stone pillar through that wall of mummies.
      It's called suspension of disbelief, if the story is entertaining enough you don't mind or don't notice the logical inconsistencies, you just go along for the ride.

    • @Limrasson
      @Limrasson 5 лет назад +19

      What you could do is study the snakes then create a habitat room. Maybe adjust it that it's a perfect place to lay eggs and whatnot. Therefore the snakes would naturally occour in your room. Then you build the tomb so that this room is in the way. And there you have it, your self-sustaining snake pit.

  • @Schixotica

    Huh, the fact that those eleaborate booby traps didn't exist wasn't a surprise but I never would have guessed they would have treated the tombs of their ancestors like that, they're always portrayed to have a incredibly high sense of reverence and religiosity, that was a shock.

    • @Schixotica
      @Schixotica 5 лет назад +17

      Lassi Kinnunen While there were tombs back then that they perhaps pilfered that were as old as Viking tombs are to us today, Viking religion and culture is long dead, they were still heavily surrounded by the same religious traditions and culture, which was inevitably stronger than most peoples religiosity and culture in the modern world with the current ease of travel and accessibility of information. This video also made it seem like the tombs they pillaged weren’t necessarily much older than their own. That said I get your point, people haven’t changed that much and grave robbing was apparently a big part of the culture. It’s just jarring cause all the modern portrayals of ancient Egyptians would have you think pharaohs would never participate in such sacrilege.

      @Anonymous AnonymousYou think no-one thoght to send a drone in or use some other method of disarming some possible trap? Traps only get you when you don't know they are there. No trap is beyond engineering a way out.

      The traps probably did exist what are they worth sprung by Tomb robbers long ago.
      The biggest tomb robbers were probably the priesthood. they know where all the drones War era and they accepted money from the deceased's family to protect the tool from the robbers for a limited time. When the time was up the priesthood knew where the tomb was and had no incentive to protect it.

      Ever heard of Catholic holy relics? They literally took parts and bits of skin or hair, etc... of saints. They are even classed into three classes.
      The first class includes anything basically from the saints body such as flesh, bone, hair, limbs, heads, etc... The second class includes anything owned by a saint and the third class includes anything touched or blessed by a saint.
      Hell of a way to monetize a religion.

      @Anonymous Anonymous there are no traps, it is just to stop people going in. Mercury was said to decorate the floor which was shaped like a map of the world, mercury being water. Mercury had "magic" properties of dissolving gold, and was extremely rich. There was a large enough amount of quicksilver ore in china though. Also wasn't that emperor the barmy immortality seeking one who ate mercury? Seems fitting. Chinese don't care about historical truth though. Every emperor burned the books of the last and made up history. Now the communist government does the same.

    The reason why now they are "death traps" is because they have been closed off for a really long time, which means chances are, there isn't enough oxygen in them to breathe properly. The same issue is found in underground caves which is why if you go there it's important to have a device on you that tells you if the air is safe to breathe. Not saying go rob places lol but if you do a bit of cave exploring, don't die a stupid death.

    In fact, sometimes there were booby traps but there were very special.
    A mastaba of the 1 dynasty for example had a stone that stops the man from going to the burial camber. If you try to come trough this stone, smaller stones fall from the top.
    In this case actually the tombraiders go through a side wall so they don’t even go near this Barrier

    I went to the valley of the kings during a trip to Egypt and several of the tombs we went into had narrow passages that were set up in such a way that if illuminated by torch light, would cause a sort of optical illusion on the floor, making it look like one long tunnel. However it actually masked a 40ft drop where raiders would fall to either die. I'd say that's a booby trap.

    If you ask anyone from a sea faring culture they will tell you that Sailors of old would catch sea birds on the decks of their ships and the most common bird they caught were called "Boobys" and the "Booby trap" was a simple rope noose trap used to catch the sea bird.
    Leave a rope noose on the deck with bait in the middle, as soon as the bird lands or steps into the noose pull the end of the rope and the noose would tighten to trap the bird around the legs.
    ....
    'Blue-Footed Booby' ... 'Red-Footed Booby'... 'Brown Booby'... 'Masked Booby'

    Without maintenance and repair, booby traps become useless, regardless of the technology used. Structures shift and settle; the ground shifts and settles; dirt or debris jam mechanisms; wood and bone decompose or become brittle; metals bend under a variety of pressures, and so on. IRL, Indiana Jones would walk out of that temple with the gold idol and THEN face danger from his rival and the locals.

    BOB Denard Biography please?
    Bob Denard;
    an elusive French mercenary who plied his trade throughout Africa, following his career of intrigue, violence, and a mercenary who survived some very messy missions in Africa, Denard ended up in the Coromos, where his role in the assassination of President Abdallah is still debated. After serving in the colonial army in French Indochina in the 1950s, Denard became a hired gun in 1961 when he moved to the Belgian Congo to help train government troops. From there, he took part in uprisings in Nigeria, Angola and Rhodesia, the British colony that later became Zimbabwe.
    Denard also served the Shah of Iran and trained royalist troops in Yemen. He claimed he worked with British intelligence there, and with the CIA in Angola.
    For years, Denard benefited from an interventionist French policy in its former colonies, and played on the Cold War chessboard - although he never got any official show of support.
    A year after the failed Benin coup, Denard struck again - this time, successfully - with a putsch in the Comoros that brought in Ahmed

    You have to think...if there was a pit of snakes in an ancient Egyptian tomb, they would probably all starve within a few months without food, let alone 4000 years. That one is just logistically impossible unless some unknown people throughout the entirety of the ancient, classical, medieval, and modern ages actively feed that snakes during that entire time (which most certainly did not occur).

    Why are comic books called issues?

    • @DxBlack
      @DxBlack 5 лет назад +4

      Issue(ed) -> Release / Released to

    • @Silvers24
      @Silvers24 5 лет назад +1

      I dont get this, comic books are called comic books, or funny pages if you are of that generation. Comic Books have titles, and in those titles you have a reoccurring new story with a number (And not all comics was numbered), which then can be called an issue within a run of an ongoing series, or title (Such as Amazing Spider-Man). www.howtolovecomics.com/comic-book-glossary-of-terms/ and bookriot.com/2017/08/24/guide-comics-terminology/
      But yeah, no one calls them issues. And if they do, someone needs to point this out to them quickly. And address their issue in a careful, but yet stern matter.

    • @michaelbuckers
      @michaelbuckers 5 лет назад +10

      Cuz if you buy them you got issues.

      That's a Big Issue.

    • @johnfrancisdoe1563
      @johnfrancisdoe1563 5 лет назад

      Silvers24 More precisely, every recurring publication (not just cartoons) has each individual one being an "issue", sometimes numbered consecutively as issue 1, 2, 3, ... sometimes more fanciful. So a the printed publication "Action Comics" has issue numbers also marked with very approximate dates. The stories in there may have various kinds of episode and strip numbers, but it's the publications that specifically have "issue" numbers.
      Issue numbers are not limited to entertainment. Even scientific publications have numbered issues, sometimes going back more than 100 years.
