Hi Mike.. Thanks for these videos! I Have an S-76 that my father used as a Ham before 1965 and passed to me when I got my Novice ticket in 1977. I made hundreds of CW contacts using the S-76 and his old Heathkit Apache Transmitter. The receiver has been under a bench here since 1980 or so and I just dusted it off and hope to restore it. Even the AC power cord is rotted.. so who knows. I am setting up a ham station once again and it will be a blast to have the Hallicrafters RX running! Best luck.. Mike in Dallas, TX.
Well planned and produced video. My first visit. I subscribed and will continue the series with great interest. I bought an S-76 today so should have mine on the bench pretty soon. Finishing up an NC-173 now. Thanks for the great content, tips, etc.
Mike, looking forward to your work on this radio. I restored a Hammarlund HQ-129 and have a second I have considered doing. I've worked on a Hallicrafters S40B. These boat anchors can be fun, but tricky to work on. I subscribed to watch this series.
Welcome aboard! If you are a Hallicrafters fan I have the following radios that will cross my bench this winter / fall. 1) S-20R 2) S-40 original 3) SX-99. The S-20R will be a bit of a can of worms as the electro-static speaker is done. I will have to sub in an inductor in the power supply likely along with a dropping resistor to correct the voltage and add in a standard audio output transformer to a permeant magnet speaker.
Hi Mike, I'm enjoying this series as I have one of these radios and am going thru it, my first time to do one. many years ago an old timer recapped this radio and it worked well, now it shocks me touching the switches, found that not all caps were replaced. I have some new ones ordered but wondered should I replace the electrolytics inside the "can" that you had suspected? Another site I saw said to replace all electrolytics? I still have not removed the IF chassis you showed to get those paper caps. Do you prefer Sams wiring diagrams over the hallicrafters? thanks for your help
Use the Hallicrafters factory manual. You need to follow my 5 steps. Watch this, then ask questions. ruclips.net/video/yFSJjaKgAJI/видео.htmlsi=3a_VcfQjfWl_nHu5
Then watch this in its entirety. All episodes ruclips.net/p/PL-jNrJyEhNyPie5EDaRqobHl_90cHM9KN
Thanks Mike, very good info, question about mfd and uf, they are both microfarad? I am a little confused about some capacitors from antique electronic supply, they are marked 203k on a .02mfd, that didn't seem to cross over anywhere online?? thanks very much, and how many amp fuse to use?@@MikesRadioRepairRestoration
@@jamesw-c2q Yes uF is mfd. Just search on google - "203K Capacitor value"
thanks, I get it now@@MikesRadioRepairRestoration

Thanks for the video, I have a couple of SW receivers I need to repair. I hit the like, and all your buttons. I may ask your advice sometime if that is ok. Have a great weekend, 21 South Carolina Old Radio Night.
