After a short temporary suspension of this much-loved activity, Puffing Billy Railway is thrilled to bring back the time-honoured tradition of passengers sitting on the carriage sills!
Before long, our friendly conductors will help you on board the open-side carriages for a serene ride over the hills, across the iconic timber trestle bridges, down the valley and into the forest on the original mountain track between Belgrave and Gembrook.
ocated adjacent to Lakeside station sits Puffing Billy’s new state-of-the-art Lakeside Visitor Centre. Featuring a modern café with the best produce on offer in the region, a dedicated gift shop featuring locally designed treasures and a gallery of steam artifacts in the Lakeside Hall, the Visitor Centre offers guests a cultural hub with world-class facilities. Open daily with free entry to passengers and visitors.
A visit to Puffing Billy Railway makes for a distinctive experience as it combines the charm of a heritage steam railway with the beauty of the Dandenong Ranges. The journey includes a ride on the old Monbulk Belgrave steam train, passing through lush fern gullies and the original mountain track, providing a nostalgic glimpse into Australia's railway history.
This fabulous trip was excellent value and I would highly recommend. The other trips on offer looked excellent and they seem to offer something to suit everyone. All the volunteers were absolutely fantastic making this a very memorable morning trip. Kids love Puffing Billy.
he Puffing Billy Railway is a 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge heritage railway in the southern foothills of the Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne, Australia. The railway was one of the five narrow gauge lines of the Victorian Railways which opened around the beginning of the 20th century. It is close to the city of Melbourne and is one of the most popular steam heritage railways in the world, attracting tourists from Australia and overseas.
