Sponsor but not an actual user, I couldn't pass that one up, folks.
@@cornbreadfedkirkpatrick9647 I legitimately watched Simon use their shaving dew as lotion in the last Business Blaze video. Just randomly in the video, not during an ad read.
@@dudepool7530 I know I couldn't resist I even said this, is Simon come on now I was having some fun we're having some type of issues with the lockdown drags
9:26 so what your saying is that there’s an easily accessible communist symbol that is held in high esteem by those communists not in a communist country like Russia or China?.....
Oh man, this shits so getting vandalized (without damaging it) and will happen regularly from now on out!

That so funny I do the same

Prior to World War II, my grandmother would frequent Highgate Cemetery to sit on a bench and read. In my youth, I was a cemetery caretaker and gravedigger. I never considered my work as "creepy" -- just honorable and quite often very sad. Thank you Simon, for this informative video.
That sounds honorable... must have been really profound as a kid ! Thanks for sharing
It's only "creepy" to the newcomer's imagination.
Nope. Very honorable. Somebody has to do it. I'd much rather have someone digging graves that does it with reverence. It sounds like you did just that. Thank you.
Good job keep it up.
You will never run out of work 😉
“Now let’s talk about some more dead people.” Should be Biographics tag line.
This isn’t biographics, it’s Geographics! Simon has too many channels
@@NathanXxplosion true... but eh joke still works. 😂
At the very least it should be a slogan on a Simon Whistler T-shirt.
Allegedly!
I was there once. It's a magical place. Spent almost four hours wandering around, then the security closed it for the day.
I feel sorry for that poor shadowy creature who kept on getting scared off by screeching and screaming humans . . . give the guy a break - he's obviously terrified of us humans - why else would he instantly disappear once the caterwauling commenced?
It's like the giant red hair monster in those Bugs Bunny cartoons
@@biffyqueen Exactly . . .
Silence is broken...by the first mauling...
I like the fact that you said caterwauling
Show it tiktok and it'll never want to return.
"An immediate success!" People were simply dying to get in.
Walking through old cemeteries is very peaceful. Reading the things folks wrote about their loved ones is really interesting.
I've been to this cemetery a couple of times. I found the wild side stunning. I took tons of photos. I still have all of them, a decade later, except for the one I treasured. It showed two shadowy figures mourning over a grave that was crumbling from tree roots. There was no one there but for me, that day. I would love to find that photo again.
15:44 Ladanum is a resin used mainly in the perfume industry which is the substance shown in the picture.
Laudanum is a tincture of opium and codine and normally in liquid form which I am assuming is what you should have shown.
I lost it at the dancing garlic scene and then Buffy. 🤣
Poor shadowy vampire was probably deaf from all the screaming.
Between the "allegedly" and chick dancing with garlic forgot I wasnt watching business blaze for a minute
F O R Y O U R S M E L L Y B A L L S
I had that vibe when he talked about using the post shave dew as hand mousturizer.
I so enjoy visiting old cemeteries and reading grave markers. So do my siblings. We took road trips all the time growing up as we moved almost every year as dad got transferred in the military. When we visited Tombstone, Arizona we went through Boothill Cemetary. After that we were hooked and part of our travels besides beach trips, Disneyland, lakes like Bear Lake, Calico, Grand Canyon, great hiking trails all over the US, Canada, Mexico, we always liked to visit old cemeteries.
This episode was a grave undertaking. I image the script started as bare bones, but with a bit of skullduggery, it was something you could bury your fangs in it.
No.
Yes
Funny Boy. Ted!
I dig it
Your comment was a grave pundertaking...
Simon's underplayed and perfectly placed humor cracks me up: "...he smelled the opportunity for both big profits and formaldehyde.."
The tours run by the friends of the cemetery to the West side are really something to behold - I've been a few times and I would highly recommend it in order to provide them with some financial support and to see it for yourself! While the tours to the West are guided due to portions being unsafe and fragile, you also are allowed to enter the East unsupervised as part of your admission, and it really allows you to get a sense of the place as it would have been a century ago.
15:45 I don't think she was addicted to labdanum, the incense collected on goat fur, I suspect you mean laudanum, the opium tincture.
D. G. Rossetti penned High Noon for this beauty taken away at an early age. Coincidentally “clasp we to our hearts for deathless dower, this close companioned inarticulate hour.” There was not a poet since Keats like Rossetti. And in fact only his sister could equal him.
@@Mrbrbusby The deathless come at any hour, they come for the darkened hearts that cower.
@@LucyferSkyles that is profoundly sad, can definitely feel the pain in his words.
@@CashelOConnolly did you not find the photo they used to be jarring? The swirly incense doesn’t scream addicting and bleak and I think it’s quite the distinction since not a lot of people know what that specific drug is but know what opium is. To use the swirled incense shows that they just googled the wrong word. I’m not mad or anything, still absolutely love this channel, just thought it was interesting.
In a video about a cemetery I never would have predicted I'd hear the sentence "ball spray, for your smelly balls!"
Lmao.. well, I'd be willing to bet the deceased are sensitive when being informed that their nethers are smelling a little overripe.
I usually say it at funerals. The attendees are usually crying and telling me they don't know who I am but I just need to spread the news of ball spray for your smelly balls
I went there - the old part of the cemetery is only open for public via guided tours. It was great, especially in summer 😍 magical, a little spooky and interesting

I just mentioned Highgate in my newest novel last night, now this popped up. Timely!
Good luck dear
I used to live In makepeace mansions which backed on to highgate cemetery! I had to walk past it at night after getting off fhs bus from archway to walk home after working in a pub. I was scared 🤣 its a freaky place. The flat we lived in in makepeace mansions was haunted as well..

Highgate is a rather lovely place. I visited to see the circle of Lebanon, and was delighted to discover Rosetti and Siddal were buried nearby. It has a curiously light atmosphere I found, doesn't really feel like a graveyard. Thank you for a very good video.
If we’re doing cemeteries, you now need to do one on Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. That, alone, could make a good 30 minute video.
That's right ..
been there
Was so sad at all the civil war troops buried there
Is it supposed to be haunted?? Or what's the deal bro???
Never heard of it,will have to check it out, thanks
I'd really love a video (or videos) on the ruins of Dartmoor Cornwall, specifically Grimspound (but a longer video with more of them, would not be unwelcome) thank you in advance, as I enjoy all of your channels
Greatest transition ever "and now back to some dead people"
I'm not gonna shed any tears over the vandalising of marx's grave, given his thoughts are the gifts that keep on giving. I agree with the last 3 slogans daubed on the grave because.... well.... evidence and history. If that makes me a bad person, I'll take it ✌❤🇬🇧
Had the privilege of having a guided tour of one part of Highgate Cemetery 14 years ago and it was wonderful. Definitely planning a return visit.
Dude you make my history teacher think I am a genius because I get most of my history knowledge from you you are a better teacher and your voice is so calming
"...by the end of the day no vampires have been harmed..." phew LMAO
I lived on Swains Lane for 5 years. Just a 30 second walk from my front door into Highgate Cemetery. It is an amazing place.
Highgate was also the focal point of one of my favourite teenage books. I can't remember the name, but it was a Point Horror book and the protaganist was a teenager suffering from an unknown disease. She moves into her families house, opposite the graveyard. She finds her great aunt's journal in the attic and vampire shenanigans ensue...
I went on a tour of Highgate around 3 years ago, they take you around all the famous graves and tell you the history of the place. George Michael was there too but as it was not long after his death his grave (that he shared with his mother) was hidden from view and we were not allowed to go near it as per the wishes of his family. Near to the mausoleum of Julius Beer are the catacombs where you walk inside and can see hundreds of lead coffins stacked up on shelves, some are that old that they are crumbling and you can see the rotting wood coffins underneath...others have been previously vandalised and are completely smashed open, its a really eerie experience in there. Its a tour that is highly recommended to anybody visiting or from London
Simon you spicy bOi you've made an entertaining video yet AGAIN!!!!
You should do sleepy hollow and english reformed church cemeteries. Setting of headless horseman and burial place of leona helmsley
@Nicky L Old Dutch Reformed Church Cemetery* It's connected to Sleepy Hollow cemetery on it's north end. Most people think it's just another Mausoleum section of Sleepy Hollow
Another fascinating cemetery to do a show about might be Arlington National Cemetery in the US, from it's founding on land seized from Confederate general Robert E. Lee during the US Civil war. Of particular interest would be the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (including the changing of the guard) and John F. Kennedy's gravesite.
Love the photos of the managed wilderness side of the cemetery. It's so beautiful and peaceful the way death should be.
just listened to the "last podcast on the left" episode on this story highly recommend if you want to get a bit more in depth info.
Yes indeed love that podcast glad to see more people listening to it
Done the Highgate cemetery tour a few times. It certainly has its own unique atmosphere. So does Kensal green as well.
Nunhead,Abney park and Brompton are worth visits too.
starman700.I do want to complete the magnificent seven, but as i live over 100 miles from London and with work it's taking me a while..lol
@@lyntnugent9361 yeah i did it over several years, done highgate 3 times now and twice done the guided tours, missing london right now i live in north norfolk
I would love a video about the English cemetery in Italy
Monica Hill, a hero we didnt know we needed
You should do one about the other cemetery with the pyramid. Awesome video dude.
I love how Simon says catacombs. “Catacoombs.”
"Vandals of all denominations." A sad difference from when the cemetery was opened.
I recently included Highgate Cemetery in a short story I wrote and have been submitting to publishers. I wish I'd known all about this vampire stuff when I wrote the story, it would have been fun to work in. And I hope to go to Highgate someday, but we'll have to wait and see what these next two years bring.
You should do a channel about local spooky lore/cryptids
ANOTHER CHANNEL 🤣🤣

Heck yeah I'd watch that!!!! 😊
10 months later I can tell you he has!
Would love for you to do a series of videos on famous cemeteries, I live in Savannah Ga, we have Bonaventure and we are used to tourist coming to town just to see it. Please continue this series
This would be a great series! In Cleveland we have 2 suitable ones; Lakeview in the east and Riverside in the west. The small Erie St. graveyard downtown has some good ones, too.
Conspiracy theory: Simon isn't bald. It's greenscreened in

Have to admit, the title drew me in.
Good job again Simon and Company!
Visited the cemetery in August 2013. Very enjoyable.
Thanks. Broke down on scooter and rested nicely in cemetery
I 💖 the paranormal vids. Keep up the good work.
I'm pretty sure my grandad is buried there. I remember my dad taking me to a huge, overgrown cemetery in North London when I was little. We spent ages walking around all the ivy covered graves and monuments until we eventually found it.
Laudanum - a tincture of opium.
The picture you used is of labdanum (spelled ladanum on the dish) - a sticky brown resin obtained from shrubs and used in perfumes.
Bloody good video Simon
"Ball spray! You know? For your smelly balls!"
Well said my friend. Gotta love them bathroom sponsor plugs.
I'd love to see you do a video on the Glasgow necropolis vampire
Hi John from WI. Thank for another great video. A very beautiful cemetery, with more scary stories then the Catacombs of Paris. In there people wonder off to just disappear !
I used to walk past the Highgate cemetery all the time thinking about how creepy it is..
I'd like to know more about Herne the Hunter's ghost in Windsor Great Park which appears in an oak tree with a huge Owl perched on his left arm.
You might cover the London Necropolis Railway that ran from Waterloo Station to Brookwood Cemetery between 1854 and 1941.
I love when his business blaze attitude bleeds into his other shows. 🤭 He needs to do this more!
I love old cemeteries💙💟

Class action park 😉 Fr that would be a great episode...
Fascinating horror channel did do one on action park. 👍
I'd really like to see more cemetery videos.
Just up the road from me. Well worth a visit.
This place looks amazing!! You should check out Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH. I visit there often and there’s even a spongebob grave! I believe it’s the second largest cemetery in America. Beautiful place with its greenery and ponds. People have photos taken there of all sorts of occasions. Quite a lovely place.
In the older part of Atlanta there is Oakland cemetery. It has many gorgeous mausoleums with stained-glass, it and Bonaventure in Savannah are my favorites. I would love to visit Highgate.
I used to volunteer there. The people who run the cemetery hate any mention of vampires or ghosts, as it's disrespectful to those buried there to their minds. It's a beautiful place.
Ball Spray !!! Thank you Dollar Shave Club!!!
Please make a video about the English Cemetery in Rome!! John Keats is buried there ❤️
I recognize some of this as inspiration for the cemetery in the Fable series of games.

How interesting Simon. Vampires really? I thought I heard it all from you, till now. Anyway. It is a lovely graveyard.
Make sure to stop by at the Oak Tree Café while you're there 😉👌
18:38 I swear I had to rewind because I thought you described that chap as a "wicker enthusiast." This led to a thought process that was both intriguing and hilarious. Of course I later realized that you meant "wicca enthusiast," but I'm now considering becoming a wicker enthusiast.
Happy towel Day Douglas Adams! 🎉👍🌌
Now I want to go see this place, cemeteries are actually fascinating places to go and learn a little about people who lived in different time periods. Or at least that’s how I see it.
Watching Geographics straight after Business Blaze gave me whiplash 😂😂😂
