- For the 100th year anniversary of WWI, I give you The Battle of the Somme!
Please remember to rate, comment, and subscribe!
The Battle of the Somme, also known as the Somme Offensive, was a battle fought during the First World War fought by the armies of the British and French empires against the German Empire. Because of poor planning and ineffective artillery strikes, The Battle of the Somme resulted in 1,000,000 casualties on both sides, making it one of humanities bloodiest battles.
This film is dedicated to all of the young men, whatever their nationality, who died in the First World War.
See if you can find the Lightsaber ;)

This is one of the greatest films I've ever seen. I tried doing a WW1 Brickfilm but it didn't work out. I decided to make a ww2 one. This makes me want to try again. I especially loved the contribution to those who lost there lives at the end.
After 9 years i can say that this is a true classic of my childhood
Nice done.
E
Dude I see your comm not on every LEGO stop motion
Aaaaaaa
E
Coming back here after a few years. A true classic.
I know it’s so good
one of them legos is my great great granddad
(Edit: it was my grandads grandad, i originally put great great great uncle. And he didnt survive for those asking in the comments, died a few months into the somme)
did your great great great uncle survive?
I salute to him
Did he die
THATS AWSOME
@GamerBot85 why do you assume they are American?
This is a really good Lego animation. With a little practice, almost anyone can make these little plastic guys look like they can really move, but you've stepped up at included all of the little stuff that really makes this a great story. Details like splashing water in that first shot, and dirt falling down on the soldiers' heads after an artillery explosion, and the guys hanging on to their helmets when the explosions occur. Really good stuff. Keep it up.
Mike Covell Thanks a lot man!
+legoanimation20
Who'd ever believe lego figures could make you feel horrified?
Well done. WWI was truly horrible and brutal.
Actually it's pretty awesome. Something as innocent as Legos combined with something as bloody as the Battle of the Somme.
Oh, and you surely know the battle ended with a British victory, but needless to say that came at a high price.
Exactly you took the words right outta my mind. The battle of the somme was terrible and horrifying.
If you watched the battle of Hurgten, you would see some big lego brutality.
Yep!
This is absolutely brilliant! Only today I was trying to show my sons the statue of a Private from my home town who won the VC at Mont St. Quentin in 1918. I was wondering how to get them to take much interest in history, and you have just handed me a most valuable tool in showing them history in a way that will grab their attention, and teach at the same time. Thank-you for your awesome work!
Really well done on this, captures the bravery of the men and the ridiculous amount of lost life. Very very brave men. Thanks for making this it must have taken you ages! Great job.
I watched withy my Kids that love ww1 and ww2 great memories and they do stopmotion cause of you .
That was awesome! Best stop motion I have seen in a long time!
im just gonna say how lucky we are to live like this and a big thanks to all that helped though out ww1 and ww2 but if i gave names id forget or leave out a few great video mate no matter what anyone says you done a great job
Wow never have really seen a ww1 stop motion so wow really really good

Thank you so much for making this. When I studied WW1 I was so engaged. It is very close to my heart
Good work mate.
trycoldman23
trycoldman23 I see you every frickin where
trycoldman23 I SEE YOU EVERYWHERE EVEN ON THE SIMPLE HISTORY YT CHANNEL GEEZ GET A FUCKING LIFE
Milatary Gamer You should too if you're seeing him everywhere. See how that works? I don't know how I got to this shit from my war history refreshers, but gargle razors kiddo.
Milatary Gamer You have no idea what war is like. And if you want to join just to kill, forget about it kiddo. Those are the first to die. It's spelt military, and it's a commitment you can never go back on. You're not ready, your mentality shows. I come from long line of soldiers. It's only my purpose to Christ and country I join. It's what my fathers did for us. I have the fighting spirit and the mentality to survive and provide protection and duty to my country. United States Marine Corps. First to Fight
A wonderful tribute. Thanks for making this.
I would be the guy camping at the back with the bag pipes
And probably be shot by your own team for cowardness.
if ure of russian
DaNOUB GUY Nope many men in the British army got shot down for cowardness.
the bag pipes boost moral
Moral boosted 10+
Great animation of how the horrors of war was like, this will show you of how the trench charges were peformed, it is cruel and also frightening to think they had to go through this. may those soldiers rest in peace and all the other soldiers in the other wars.
Great job! And as I commented on a similar video of the Gallipoli campaign, also very respectful - thanks. My Great Uncle was killed during the second Battle of Somme, at Pozieres. He suffered shrapnel wounds (mortar shell most likely), made it to the field hospital, but died shortly after. He at least has a known grave, my other Great Uncle lies in Flanders Field, somewhere. Again good job on this.
Claire you are awesome
The best Lego ww1 film out their. You inspired me to get into stop motion.
The Battlefield 1 Lego mod looks great by the way, amazing gameplay dude!
I know, early access to this game with the mod was awesome! ;P

All the horror, courage, and inhumanity in Lego form.
Incredible animation. You actually brought home how terrifying it must have been - with Lego.
Than's pretty nice! From time to time a little bit chopy but still it's cool!

I really hope legoanimation20 doesn't become like mrpearljack or jslegomaster! I don't want him to quit!!
This does a good job on showing how bad the death was on both sides of the war.
wow...just wow. In some ways seeing it done with Lego is more disturbing and moving than in any other medium.
?
What are you going on about? Lego is a toy for anyone and anything can be done with it. Stop being such a pansy
TAU! FOR THE GREATER GOOD
Great video man!! I love making stop motion videos on stop motion studio pro but this video you made is more advanced and awesome!
at 5:26 i thought it said, "the British had 00,000 causalities" me: Wtf?!?!?!
Ah the classic lego video everyone watched as a child and understod nothing but still watched it now that my friends are a real classic
I'm glad to see you didn't make the German soldiers completely evil.
+Kyle “Elvenkin” Dayton Ikr
+Kyle “Elvenkin” Dayton It wasn't like WW2 where soldiers like the SS or the Einsatzgruppen were actually trained to be merciless and ruthless. WW2 tainted the impression of the german army but in WW1 they were pretty honourable in most cases and the majority of the things that could be considered atrocities were orders made by higher officers - who never actually had to carry out the orders themselves.
A lot of germans who were just good people in an exceedingly bad situation died in WW1.
Thats the idea, I feel that too many films have portrayed the germans wrongly, not all of them, a lot of them did pretty atrocious things, but a good chunk of them were good people.
legoanimation20 Well, everybody loves a villain don't they? The Germans kind of brought it on themselves with their sinister insignias and uniforms and everything in WW2 and they did look pretty fearsome in WW1 by 1918 as well but they 95% of them were still just people following orders or people fearing for their own lives and those of their families too.
I was watching a few of your videos the other day. They are great fun. Top marks. lol
I see the British Empire and the German Empire no different just different cultures and uniforms other than that pretty much the same thing
Awesome video! You don't see too many good ww1 videos but this one is great!
Thanks all for the awesome feedback!
Can you do a tutorial on that German mg please
Gta5 LSPD I could post it on my flickr if you want ;)
Plz do more on world war one.

Incredible voice. I really think u got the voices and the sound in its proper place, thats what i think is one of the most important parts of stopmotion. Great job indeed. :)
Awesome sauce but the Somme didn't have rocky terrain but favorite animation so far! 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺I'm Australian 😂😂😅
?
Im Aussie as well xd
Loved it! RUclips needs more creative people like you.
All these men dead. Because of one man.
(I know what you're thinking, not Krusty the Klown.)
Sir Douglas Haig.
Wow, you have improved a lot, great job!
Legos are not supposed to depress people.
amen
Neither are u turd
Sam Worthaisong Have you watched the video?
Yes and who said u can be mean to him he's expressing his feeling
Sam Worthaisong Come to think of it. You're depressing as well
This is a very good depiction of Somme.great job. :)
the sound is from War Horse
Mike TW17 yes it’s from War Horse
Although I'm from a low income background, I went to a private school with a strong military tradition, as many of its former pupils served in the British military during the First and Second World Wars, and many were killed in action. There is a War Memorial in the centre of its Quad. One of the first homework assignments I remember doing for my English class was to write a poem about William Haldane Round, a British Army Captain who had attended my school and who was killed in a shell explosion at the Battle of the Somme.
That is very cool! And also sad
Thanks for 6000 subs guys!
You really do
***** Nearly. The British defeated the Germans and conquered six miles of land, but only after five grueling months of fighting AND the British had to deploy their first tanks. So in a way, I guess they were defeated initially, but in the end they won.
+Alexander Blencowe
Bullshit. It's not a victory when you lose the majority of your men and gain less then a mile.
Luke Koziol Correct. :)
..😇😆😬😇
Dang keep up the great work man it’s very good
4:12 How the heck did he get there without getting killed? I know the was cover fire but still?
It's not all really u know

the background sound is from the movie War Horse?
This is good bro😁
Tell me, WHERE THE FUCK did you get these weapons?
Nadav Kertcher Omg thank you.
HankproBR or brickmaina :P
HankproBR brickarms
Just brilliant 👏 the piper 👌 one of the best lego videos and very clever the way it's done if only real battles looked like this
This legit feels made up. You could make an entire storyline about this.
StreetStriker200 wgy
What a great job, your work is very very good, and I hope, people like you will continue to do animation like this, it must be used by scholl to learn how cruel war is, and the onligation, that us, french people have to the Commonwealth
german ww2 uniforms?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,erm ok
Naj Kraemer You stupid?
+john smith Some of them are wearing the breasteagle, so yes some of them are wearing ww2 uniforms, don't call the guy stupid.
Ronald Bakunin They all look the same
john smith No? Theres one at the mg with a breasteagle, it's a ww2 uniform.
Ronald Bakunin righty then
I prob shouldnt be watching this at 15 but these vids are so god damn entertaining
Why do you always portray one side as the good guys? You guys did this for many battles. Think of the German's struggle and what they were fighting for? Makes these kids think there is only one good guy to everything. In fact, there are no such thing as good guys.
I tried to show that neither side were the bad guys in this video, as shown by the German gunner almost refusing to keep mowing down the British soldiers. Each soldier had their duties (whether they were ethical or not). I am sorry I was not explicit enough to show that in this film.
Gee I don't know. Maybe because THEIR FUCKING NAZIS...
+Zom Ghoul
1. Wrong war buddy.
2. The Wehrmaht in ww2 did nothing worse that for example British or Americans. The SS was not Wehrmaht.
Whoever Whatever my bad
1:56 I throught that song is only for 1800s war..... but it still here....
name?
Once again, a Battle of the Somme with no Frenchman in sight. Given that they made up almost 45% of the allied force in the Somme and performed way better than the poorly and hastily trained British Tommies, this is kinda insulting, though not surprising.
Similarly, the main fault of the Somme wasn't poor planning and inneffective artillery, but an overall lack of experience on the British side. While the Germans, French and Russians had been fighting for more than two years already, the British forces, be it the soldiers or the officers, had no idea about what was going to happen. A gigantic offensive such as this one was possibly the worst trial by fire one could imagine.
The Somme is, in a way, similar to the august-september 14 battles fought by the Germans and French. Neither army was trained for modern warfare.
That being said, my respect for all the men, no matter their nationalities, who fought in the Somme, Verdun, Tanneberg, and all the bloody battlefields of this terrible, sickening war.
lmao the french fucking mutinied
the british were called "the most prepared troops in ww1"
Meneldhil Not trying to argue with you-none of this is meant to be an attack or sarcasm-but I don't think Brickarms (or whoever made these figs) makes French figures.
Apart from the fact that the first day of the Somme failed terribly and the trenches had zigzags in them and were never straight it was a very good video of hope to see another one soon
You do realize how horribly inaccurate this video is right, the British lost some 30,000 soldiers on the first day of the battle, you should have depicted a blood bath, virtually no one made it past half way
+Diehard 270 I understand what you are saying; however, for a 7 minute long animation, I needed to condense the battle. Otherwise it would only be half of the story. Thanks for commenting!
legoanimation20 Thats true, and its a good point, but honestly you probably would have been fine just focusing on the first day of the battle, and you could have just showed a massacre, because thats basically the main lesson of that battle. Thanks for replying though!
it still better than nothing but the thing I that I got to say but sorry but the Germans don't have a spiked helmat
sorry thats wrong many of the german infantry had pickelhaubes the strumtruppen used stahlhelm which didnt have the spikes.
Great video. Really amazing and weapons and trenches were accurate
