Fun fact: Jody did a cover of Chic’s song “I Want Your Love” (no relation to Jody’s) for her covers album The Makeover in 2007.
So she’s got two songs with the same title in her discography.
One of my favorites by Jody. She was looking so damn fine in this video!

.... I wrote a VERY long piece on this tune that YT won't let me post, so, I gotta shorten the trivia...
- .... this was the 1st single from "Affairs Of The Heart" Jody's Nov. 1991 Album...It peaked at #5 R&B, and didn't do overall that great, in the changing times of the (early) 90's; Music tastes were changing FAST, and 80's Dance Pop Artists were feeling the pinch.....
- ....BUT! ...Although Jody struggled along w/ the Others, She helped a new generation of 90's talent; T-Boz loved Jody's lower register singing so much she used it for TLC's debut Album.... EnVouge were listening to this tune on the intro for the Song "This Is Your Life" from the "Funky Divas" Album....Beyonce borrowed from the same template ("Sweet Charity") like Jody did in this Video, for her tune "Get Me Bodied".....
- ....and, Jody worked w/ David Morales (on the 2nd single, "I'm The One You Need"), preparing him to work CONSTANTLY with Mariah Carey on 90's House-influenced Dance Club Music.....Jody set the template, and she was that "Soldier" who made it easier for the Others, afterwards.....(5:07) ..........periodT ...... ; ) ................

Nirvana and the Grunge scene disrupted the establishment. Shortly, the gangsta rap picked up momentum to counter the grungy rockers.
Many of the 80’s artists faded in the early 90’s or at least had one successful hit during the time. Jody Watley had a Top 20 hit from this 1991 album.
After that, her albums underperformed since the music industry was shifting and changing direction.
The Jody Watley golden era was 1987-1990 and her legacy.

This was the lead single from her third album Affairs of the Heart. Chartwise it didn't do anywhere as well as lead singles from the first two albums. I remember liking it well enough but it just goes on for too long for me. There were other songs on the album I liked better such as title track, I'm the One you need and It All Begins with you. Like many of the artists who were considered dance/pop of the late 80s her sales fell off in the early 90s.
