ok WOW did this video blow up! Thank you all SO MUCH for watching! :D Lots of comments are talking about 0D or 4D Minecraft. 0D just probably won't work, but I promise I'll do 4D Minecraft within the next few months... FINAL EDIT: Someone just did 4D Minecraft recently, and they made an awesome video about it: ruclips.net/video/u8LMyWcKL_c/видео.html I guess it's time for 5D...? THANK YOU!!!
This is neat. It makes you think more abstract like an Atari game. That's how most of the games we have today started, and it's a cool challenge. Now try and do 0D where you have to make choices based on a single color and somehow try and consider it to be minecraft
Make the pixels as an vertical lines for of more of an accurate experience bc that's what would an 2-D being/entity would see since they also don't have got height so that means the limited height of 0 covers their/rest( of) vision.
Now make it first person perspective. Your screen is 1 pixel tall and wide, you either see +X or -X. Make you see distance to the nearest block by shrinking/enlarging the screen.
i think you should still be allowed to have multiple lines, for example one separate menu for the inventory, but you would have to open it, or another bar. Its a really debatable idea and it could break the idea of the single line, but it could still be interesting.
I mean, it still is 1D if you make the line go over to your 2nd screen, but you could have that screen above the first one. Its still the same line but it loops back around above? Really weird to think about..
This is great. Ah but I can't help to say it takes me back to the Flatland story with how they compared their dimensional worlds. Do check out the book/films.
your cave system and the way you enter it makes the game 2d but only showing "1d" (pixels have hight), by entering the cave that the player can cover make it have depth :)
Hey cool game! This idea is amazing! :D Also, I've found a pretty serious bug that will make the screen black and windows completely unresponsive, requiring an ungraceful shutdown. Steps to reproduce: Press F4 to fullscreen game, then press F4 again. Now the computer is frozen on a black screen. Expected outcome: game should become windowed. Anyhow, I'm now going to try and beat your game. :)
the pixel line also has its "y", u don't even have to measure, u can just watch. Every line of anything has its "y", even the smallest one. If you create a dimension without "z" and "y" (or any other combination) then it'd be impossible, because u can't make anything in 1D. U need at least 2D. But that's just my opinion. :>
but as long as 2 things are x-axis aligned, they are one and the same. there's technically a y axis, but it doesn't mean anything. squishing the game vertically doesn't remove information.
This is so cool. I'm glad you took up the challenge to make a 1D game, a lot of people would brush off the challenge as being difficult or not worth one's time, but I think it was worth it.
i would change this: 1. an inventory u can access with E, and select 1 item to use 2. health is just a purple pixel, 1 damage changes it to dark purple -> dark blue -> blue -> dark green -> green -> yellow -> orange -> red -> pink -> DEAD
Since the game is 1x64 Pixels big. It still has height ( 1 pixel ) And height is the Y axis That means he used both the XY axis. So it's technically a 2D Game. Edit: The display is 2D. And the character movement is 1D.
A complete 1D game can't actually be playable(it can, you just cant see anything) because you only have the x axis. In this game there still is a y axis because of the 1 pixel high window. If it was really 1D, the height would be 0 pixels, because there is no height. It would be the same if there only was a y axis, because you still couldnt see anything.
This is genuinely really cool. Your innovation of using caves and the concept of 'rooms' would be a way to expand a lot on the world and content. Background pixels are basically how 2D games like Terraria or Starbound affect the appearance of 3D building, letting you build walls in the back of a room or mine them out. That sort of thing could, and is, used to good effect in this game to affect the appearance of 2D, and you could probably go further with that. As a proof of concept, though, this is impressive as heck. Also agreed with the others that a 2D UI would hardly be cheating and aid in clarity a lot, and even allow displaying dialogue or story bits, or just general information.
so now we have minecraft in 1d through 4d. Now lets vr all these dimensional games into one. I feel like that'd be the 5th dimension. Also 0 dimension minecraft, just play minecraft and junp in a dark hole. then don't move. But everything comes to you.
took me 2 tries to beat this. (not including the amount of times i tried to exit the crafting interface by pressing escape and accidentally exiting the game) only used iron tools for some damn reason, still worked out though. would love to see a more fleshed out version of this. for instance, you could have the player's crafting interface only have 2 slots, while a crafting table would have all 3. hell, a furnace would work too. though, would there be a way to have an enchanting table work? Or how would brewing fit in? Lots of potential for such a gimmicky game.
This would actually be really cool if it was made like 4D Miner. Where actually you're in a 2D world, but living on a 1D slice of it, and you can scroll the mouse wheel to change which 1D slice you're on within that 2D world. Or even a 1D slice of a 3D world... which would be massive and take forever to explore
Impossible (i mean graphical sided) since we live in 3d, tho we could make a key to switch which type of 3d (i mean switch from xyz to wyz or xwz or xyw)
just like how in terraria, a 2d game, you have inventory screens which are also 2d, it makes sense that you could just have... separate lines for different things. -a line for inventory with crafting -a line for health and hunger -a line for the world and, if you want to implement a map feature, another line for that.
You could make the game 1st person view of a horizontal game (like table games like monopoly). It would give you exploration and kinda 1-dimensional 3D effect
How to do a 100 days in this game easily: Step 1:Get yourself some blocks Step 2:Place 1 block on the left and 1 on the right Step 3:You are unstoppable now, the only thing is that this game could get updated and creepers now explode (I don't really know if they explode yet)
@@delugedrop1558 Video promoted: prepare for high view count. btw, promoting on reddit is a good way to get views when starting early like me. Edit: aww man it got deleted...
So hear me out. If 3D has up+down, left+right, forwards+backwards, then 2D has only up+down and left+right. So then 1D would have only up+down, OR left+right. Let's say 1D is just left+right (z axis). Now imagine this 1D line goes across the horizon forever. You wouldn't be able to see it, because it has no height. It's essentially an infinitely thin strip of dimension. To see anything, you'd have to have infinite layers of these 1D strips stacked up. Now we can see it, but it's now 2D. Let's fly above this 2D strip and look down from the top. From above, we can't see it. Imagine a piece of paper that's so thin, you can't see it from the top down. We can stack these 2D pages together until we get a big stack of paper. Now it's thick enough to see from the top. We've added a 3rd Dimension! Now's where things get tricky. How to we stack these together to add a 4th dimension? Shit trips me out. (edited for bad grandma and punk shoo way shin)
@@IDontLikeHandIes just because you can’t imagine it doesn’t mean it’s impossible. There are many higher dimensions than the 4th. Look up how a 4d object would look passing through our 3d space.
„1d“ is relative. It doesn’t exist in real life and neither can be simulated on a pc. It just can be written on paper as a mathematical formula, However I get your point and think it’s a pretty funny idea
Very interesting take on 1D game. Probably about the best that could've been done for 1D minecraft. Personally I would have preferred if you had exaggerated the axis further to allow the player to see more, even if it's more of the same, because as silly as it would look to see "Steven" stretching infinitely up and down out of the first dimension, I think it's more true to a visualization of a one dimensional image's impossibility than attempting to render that existence as a limited facsimile of a two dimensional world. (I probably could have worded that better but in the moment of initially typing that sentence the word facsimile came to me, and there's not many opportunities to make use of that word so I'm rolling with it.)
In my opinion you made a 2D game where I can only see one pixel wide of the 2D world. For me a 1D game would happen along a line where you can't differentiate between a circle, line, or square. Also you would have to loose all sense of depth. Where as in your game I can make out how big a block or enemy is. Difficult to explain maybe, but I think you get the point. Nontheless a cool project, good job 👌

Lots of comments are talking about 0D or 4D Minecraft. 0D just probably won't work, but I promise I'll do 4D Minecraft within the next few months...
Edit: 4D Minecraft is taking longer than I thought... but I'll get there!
FINAL EDIT: Someone just did 4D Minecraft recently, and they made an awesome video about it: ruclips.net/video/u8LMyWcKL_c/видео.html
I guess it's time for 5D...?
THANK YOU!!!
Cool now try to make 0D minecraft

This is neat. It makes you think more abstract like an Atari game. That's how most of the games we have today started, and it's a cool challenge. Now try and do 0D where you have to make choices based on a single color and somehow try and consider it to be minecraft
Great video! Really intresting concept and you pulled it off really well.
Can’t wait to watch speedrunners beat the game
Good job! Now make 0D Minecraft. A singular pixel of gameplay.
Make the pixels as an vertical lines for of more of an accurate experience bc that's what would an 2-D being/entity would see since they also don't have got height so that means the limited height of 0 covers their/rest( of) vision.
true but if he did that with the finisned game the eyes would all look bad
I love this! I'm actually gonna play this.. It's actually a very niche idea though super fun
Its a really debatable idea and it could break the idea of the single line, but it could still be interesting.
that isnt how 1d works
But that would ruin 1d, wouldn't it?
I mean, it still is 1D if you make the line go over to your 2nd screen, but you could have that screen above the first one.
Its still the same line but it loops back around above? Really weird to think about..
@@impliqued1910 still not how 1d works
@@YplanAnimator i know its not i'm just thinking about other things at the same time on the subject of haha funny line game
I love it, looks much better than I thought it would
As a former one direction fan my nonexistent brain thought this was going to be a one direction related Minecraft vid
This is great. Ah but I can't help to say it takes me back to the Flatland story with how they compared their dimensional worlds. Do check out the book/films.
just imagine mojang would've done minecraft in 1D but with the original price
your cave system and the way you enter it makes the game 2d but only showing "1d" (pixels have hight), by entering the cave that the player can cover make it have depth :)
This is such a cool concept. Loved every minute!
This is what i thought too because it be so flat u couldnt see
but as long as 2 things are x-axis aligned, they are one and the same. there's technically a y axis, but it doesn't mean anything. squishing the game vertically doesn't remove information.
No, you can't make a 2D object either. Everything is 3D.
This is so weird. I see a 2d image of a 1d dimention through a 3d phone. Dimentions are so cool to think about
genuinely one of the most interesting videos I’ve seen, awesome work!
This is so cool. I'm glad you took up the challenge to make a 1D game, a lot of people would brush off the challenge as being difficult or not worth one's time, but I think it was worth it.
5d minecraft with multidimensional timetravel
This is underrated AF
A thing that I thing could improve the game a bit is if you added something like teleportals to get from place to place
You just answered my existential question of "how does a 1D game looks like?"
Good job! This video will blow up I can tell! Your channel is going to explode in the future
This is just me procrastinating working on my main project
I mean the UI on regular old 3D Minecraft is 2D… so no reason not to make the UI in your game 2D either!
I mean, MC hasn’t got a 3D UI!!
Dude I just commented basically the same thing, then I scrolled down and saw this lmao
@@rewe3536 lol, glad u agree with me
But why do you need a 3d ui
What I love most about this is how every mob peeks around the plane with their eyes, it's so cute!
i would change this:
1. an inventory u can access with E, and select 1 item to use
2. health is just a purple pixel, 1 damage changes it to dark purple -> dark blue -> blue -> dark green -> green -> yellow -> orange -> red -> pink -> DEAD
Imagine that you are 1D Minecraft "Steven" and you can only see in 0D.
It'd be pretty boring, because I doubt you'd be able to see in 0D

1D chess: finally, a worthy opponent. Our battle will be legendary
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought of that! XD
Since the game is 1x64 Pixels big.
It still has height ( 1 pixel ) And height is the Y axis
That means he used both the XY axis. So it's technically a 2D Game.
Edit: The display is 2D. And the character movement is 1D.
Best Minecraft vid I've watched
legit
This video will reach 1miliion views in the future I can feel it.
Yes
Dude you need so many more subs for all your work, love the vid!
Well it's not that hard to imagine the pixels are representation of points on a line. The game itself is one dimensional
Thank you mr obvious
@@chimklee please shut tf up, there are people who would need this explaination because else they would believe this clickbait.
Well it's not hard to make line and pixel characters
you're really a genius that was trully impressive;!!
I'd like to see a speedrun of this game
Now it’s time to speed run this game.
so now we have minecraft in 1d through 4d.
Now lets vr all these dimensional games into one. I feel like that'd be the 5th dimension.
Also 0 dimension minecraft, just play minecraft and junp in a dark hole. then don't move. But everything comes to you.
took me 2 tries to beat this. (not including the amount of times i tried to exit the crafting interface by pressing escape and accidentally exiting the game)
only used iron tools for some damn reason, still worked out though.
would love to see a more fleshed out version of this.
for instance, you could have the player's crafting interface only have 2 slots, while a crafting table would have all 3. hell, a furnace would work too. though, would there be a way to have an enchanting table work? Or how would brewing fit in? Lots of potential for such a gimmicky game.
How did you select inventory items?
@@gelato5709 scroll wheel. The selected item in your inventory is highlighted by 2 surrounding white pixels

Waiting for someone to play this game on an led strip...
Well, a completely useless game that created an amazing food for thought! Thank you!!!
wow! you put a lot of work into that!
This video is awesome! I subscribed and liked. I hope you get more attention!
oh cool a crafting table i can make my iron pickaxe now
never thought about 4d games 🤔
Impossible (i mean graphical sided) since we live in 3d, tho we could make a key to switch which type of 3d (i mean switch from xyz to wyz or xwz or xyw)
just like how in terraria, a 2d game, you have inventory screens which are also 2d, it makes sense that you could just have... separate lines for different things.
-a line for inventory with crafting
-a line for health and hunger
-a line for the world
and, if you want to implement a map feature, another line for that.
Your RUclips channel is quite interesting to watch, i would love to see more content produced by you :D
You could make the game 1st person view of a horizontal game (like table games like monopoly). It would give you exploration and kinda 1-dimensional 3D effect
How to do a 100 days in this game easily:
Step 1:Get yourself some blocks
Step 2:Place 1 block on the left and 1 on the right
Step 3:You are unstoppable now, the only thing is that this game could get updated and creepers now explode (I don't really know if they explode yet)
1D would be just like 2D.
Instead you can basically only move left and right and I guess sprites won't change. A giant lack of animations too.
Suggestion: change title to "guy plays Minecraft in 1D" or "can you play Minecraft in 1D?" And advertise on all related reddits :)
Forgot to mention it has been done in 4D

Should I promote this on reddit?
sure!

I was about to fall asleep, then I read this
I dont think 4d is possible though, I just cant imagine a 4d object
@@IDontLikeHandIes just because you can’t imagine it doesn’t mean it’s impossible. There are many higher dimensions than the 4th. Look up how a 4d object would look passing through our 3d space.
You can make hearts with a pulsating dark red to light red pixel. Color and lightness are also dimensions.
„1d“ is relative. It doesn’t exist in real life and neither can be simulated on a pc. It just can be written on paper as a mathematical formula, However I get your point and think it’s a pretty funny idea
Yea, aswell as 4D
DelugeDrop: lets call him steven that is a totally original name and not copying
me: how about steven universe?
Can’t wait for speed runs of this!
Nontheless a cool project, good job 👌
fun fact: the name Steven came from the book a diary of a 8 bit villager from seeds to sords or that other mincraft book novel that was published by mincraft
You could take advantage of the other axes by rotating x (trying to perceive the y axis might be somewhat difficult).
