He found her tape recorder prior to this scene. She was suicidal and he was touched to find out he saved her unintentionally. It broke his heart to see her bawling her eyes out on her birthday. He sensed her loneliness and sense of rejection (from her family). His words to her here truly were balm to her wounded soul. His assurance that even when they would eventually part, he would always remember her and that she is loved and accepted. What an amazing man

This scene deserves AWARDS! For both of them , the director and the writing team. For starters the depth of SYJ's acting here? She basically cries herself out, it's not just acting with few drops of artificial tears, she is pouring her heart out for this character! And HB basically allows her to do just that. Allowing their characters to find their way to each other, breaking the wall of the imminent separation away, finally connecting. I can write essays about these two characters! What works well for this duo? How well they play each other, from funny scenes to truly heartbreaking ones without awkwardness but a natural comfortability. *wipes tears*
pruedens they are good actors..seasoned ones at that..but more than anything, they brought to life their respective characters so vividly...and I can only attribute that to two things:one, they are exceptional actors and two, they act and feel from their hearts...their real relationship contributed a lot to the outpouring of emotional exchanges between their star crossed lovers characters. They deserved a Baeksang award. Both of them..

I feel like some of the newer kdramas lack the ability to produce quality drama because they lack good writing, unique plot lines unlike typical kdrama plot, and top notch actors rather than young idols. Must have been a hell of a production team to be able to bring these two together for such a great drama. Thank you to not only these legendary actors but also the big muscles behind the scenes who made this possible. I’m going to cherish this drama for a long long time. ❤️❤️❤️

Oh sure would love more in this series because of an awesome story, directing and major actors are world class. I have never seen any movie with an actor who without so much as the flicker of an eye lid could get tell the story of a heroic soul who saved the usual story of a fair maiden in trouble. It’s almost like Joseph Cambell’s the Hero’s journey so popular in the West.
This hug could heal any illness in the world.

The pain of loss, the pain of them leaving, and the happiness and gratitude for them coming into your life. This is the best fucking drama ever. What an amazing, beautiful piece of work.

I just surprised my girlfriend today just like this. She too was facing not-so-good-thoughts and I wanted to help her. She said she didn't want much from her birthday but I got a bunch of her friends and surprised her at a park. Seeing the smile on her face made me know that I was doing good and getting her back on track to the road of happiness. She said that every year, she would feel sad; later on, she would tell me that I broke that cycle and that she is happier than she ever was on her birthday. I'm grateful that she's alive and I hope that for every birthday onwards, she'll be happy because today was a good day and I hope she remembers it all.

She felt unlovable and that is why she wanted to die. Then, she found Jeon Hyeok who healed her broken heart. This is why CLOY is the best drama Korea ever produced.

This K drama is one of a kind.. Their lines really touched and warms my heart, tho they don’t have a lot of intimate scenes compared to other K dramas that I watched, For some reason you can feel the love thru their eyes.. those hugs and little pecks.. holding hands are enough.. no wonder a lot of us wants them to be together..

It must be very difficult for actors like them to find real love. Imagine you have to act lovers with different person each years, have go deep into the role n romance so the chemistry looks good .
Even if they feel something for each other now, they must be worry too... worry that it's all just an illusion. Given that, many actors get divorced recently. They might need longer time to prove the feeling is real even after this project ended
It's true, many married their Co actors after a successful project because reality and illusion line become blurred. They really need to be matured enough to know how to handle screen relationships from the real relationship to stay steady and secure.

When he says "I will be grateful that you were born into this world", that means a whole lot to her. Remember, she was born illegitimately. A product of a married man's affair. Her stepmother rejected her because of that. So did her stepbrothers. That rejection and lack of love as a child led to her near suicide attempt and chronic depression. Although her father loves her in his own way, to have him say that to her is so important.
Ohhh I never understood that she was not her mother's child, but from an extramarital affair... So where is her "real" mother?
@@marygeta4779 That part was never fully explained I think. Basically as a small child she was taken into their family and her first birthday was celebrated with them. But her stepmother viewed her as some other woman's child and didn't love her. She even tried to abandon her on a beach only to go back later to find out that someone else found her and helped her. That abandonment on the beach stayed with her and comes out in the marketplace scene at night where he holds up the candle for her. He and his crew essentially become the family and the brothers she never really had. So in this scene she is upset because this is her best birthday ever and she knows she won't see them again. They will be gone and she will be alone again. That's why Crash Landing works on so many levels. And why Son Ye-jin's performance is so wonderful.
