Excellent documentary on Poush mela. Really liked the presentation and highlighting the unique visuals and sights of the mela. Look forward to visit the mela.
Government should really support and make it more organise and beautifull festival and promote to the nation and international, so our culture art is showed. Its so beautifull artistic work, really proud of them.
Its really outstanding work. You have very critically projected the agonies , pains and struggle of the artists through ur lens .The most striking part is when the lady Dokra artist from Bankura was saying... " We are artists! ... why shall we do compromise with the space?
Nice work from a beginner. One must appreciate it's value as a documentation of the current state of affairs. However, Thumri, I'd like to list some of my observations here. 1. The volume of the VO track is too low. And it's always better to use one's mother tongue rather than English narrative that doesn't sound like English at all. 2. When the history of Poushmela is being discussed, certain old visuals were required. Photographs, and also video clips are aplenty. Do use them as inserts. 3. I missed certain characteristic visuals: such as a) the local people flocking into the ground b) the Santhal Games show c) the ex-students gathering, both formal and informal d) the garments market e) the jilipi-eaters f) a long shot of the ground 2-3 days before Mela and g) a concluding shot of a deserted ground, say a used coffee-cup (or, "shaalpatar thonga") rolling on the ground in close up. 4. Presence of the corporate brands does have some positive impacts on the local economy too. Don't ignore that. 5. This is technical: Camera is almost always standing still, probably on a tripod. But sometimes slow pan, or even handheld movements help to break the monotony. A moving camera becomes a character by itself. 6. Do show the interviewer sometimes :) 7. The credit title must include the videographer's and the editor's names. Ignoring them is uncourteous. I hope you make far better films in future.
cParthapratim thanks a ton for your valuable comment. At first I want to clarify that i have done the videography and the editing by myself. All the inclusion you have mentioned would surely increased the quality of the work. I will try to do it better in the next project :P Use of english narration was just to make people understand the whole thing who are not from bengali background. I know that the quality could be better. lastly thanks again, as a beginner I do need your valuable feedback to improve myself.
I liked the docu. Technicalities doesn't matter because the shots are clear and straight- forward. It amply revealed the current state of affairs of the mela. As an ex-student , I've actively participated in the mela since 1970 , but I no longer feel like going because the corporate giants have invaded the grounds. The rustic charm of Poush Mela has been lost due to their ingress. Very sad ,VB Poush Mela authority can't stop their slaughter of Gurudev's ideals, which was against superficial glamour and glitz. One flaw that struck me----the narrator spoke bad English----a better ,smart and distinct-voice should have been used..

In 1:41 what is the name of the place? Like if I want to attend the prayer what is the name of the prayer hall?
The place is known as chatimtala. You can call this place the heart of santiniketan.
Best
