ClintBeastwood You really don't understand what he was actually trying to say ? The human life doesn't consist only out of facts, it also consists out of hope!
When Tom owned a house near where I used to live in coastal Northern California people said they'd see him at the local grocery store and be able to chat like normal people without the " star" trip.

I can’t believe he’s gone. This song was a part of my childhood, thanks to GTA, and it introduced me to the music of Tom Petty, which I have deeply loved ever since. It’s a shame it had to happen today, RIP one of the Greatest.
My grandma loved this song. When I was 7, she always took me to the dollar store to buy me something and we would jam out in the car to the way to the store. However, she got cancer in 2019 and passed away in 2020, and she was only 61.😭
R.I.P Tom Petty. So long as your music lives on in mediums like records, classic rock stations, features in games such as Grand theft auto and such, your legacy will always live on.
I remember my dad playing the music video for this on a CD all the time, and when I was finally old enough to appreciate this song the man who sings it had passed away. Never forget Tom Petty
Oct 2, 2017, ....RIP Tom, I almost broke the steering wheel on my car the first time I heard this , in Food Lion parking lot, keeping time and wishing for a drum. thank you man for all the awesomeness, love you, miss you
R.I.P Tom. This was the first thing I wanted to listen to listen to this morning to remember all the good times I've had listening to this man's music. Thank you Tom.
Remember on tears those days when I used to ride my Harley trough the highway everyday, the engine warming with this song on the speakers, and then hitting the throttle all the way to my job at really high speed. I was a 19 year old boy living my best time. Thank you Tom Petty.
So quality, so underrated. As a heathen who grew up on mainstream FM stations in UK early 90s I missed out on Tom Petty. Such a wonderful discovery. Yes I found this via the GTA world but thankful anyhow. May Tom live forever; we are all trying to get something out of life and perhaps attain what may be the impossible, but we keep trying, which I take to be the meaning of this song. Magnificent.

First heard this song as I was driving up eagle river mountain in Alaska on a cloudy day. I don't know exactly what it was but there was something about leaving the dark overcast and traveling through the clouds and finally reaching a beautiful sky that extended for miles. I had a lot of great memories in Alaska, even in the winter, the way the mountains look like someone covered them in white bed sheets everything seem so peaceful. Now that I moved to Florida, every once in a while, I listen to this masterpiece and literally run down a dream and get to experience that beautiful wonderland I once lived in.
One of the ALL TIME great songs by Tom and The Heartbreakers. I request this song almost every time I go out for karaoke, it's kinda become my theme song. Not to mention I jam out with an AEWSOME air guitar when this tune plays.
