Davie what a wonderful flashback this gave me. I was fishing the middle provo river many years ago and not catching anything while this seasoned gentleman down stream caught one after another. As he was leaving he gave me a few flies that were very similar to the masterpiece you created here and the day turned around immediately. I am going to tie up your version and hopefully I can one day pay that moment forward.
Hy Davie, Like all of us watching, I am sure, I am fascinated by your fly tying. Thanks ever so much for sharing with us. I mainly fish the Corrib, in co.Galway and Mayo. Do you have a favourite fly? And a favourite duck fly?
Davie, I tied this fly with Dun CDC but the stems show through on the bubble. I noticed yours do not. Did I do something wrong or is it just the feathers I have? Otherwise the fly looks much more like yours than I expected. I was just bummed because I can see the stems in the feathers. All the best, Sean
Hello Davie, love the way you describe your tying, could you please tell me is there aright and a wrong way to twist the dubbing onto the thread? Cheers, coulter46.
Hi Davie, how do you fish a fly like this? is the entire thing supposed to float on the surface? or is the back half supposed to be suspended in the water while the cdc keeps it floating? or is it supposed to sink and be drifted or swung? I have been tying for a long time, but only fly fishing for a few years. I can tie the flies, I just do not know how to fish them - Austin
Hi Austin, When most mayfly nymphs hatch they lie quite flat in the surface and the tails will help to keep it up unlike midge pupa which curve under so I would leave the tail fibres out and tye on a curved hook. I have fished this fly mostly on it's own but I've also fished it on a cast of two to three flies, I would attach this fly to one of the droppers with a nymph on the point..The fly will help as a sighter when fish take the nymph but also to encourage fish to come to the emerging nymphs.. I hope this helps you in some way.. All the very best Davie

Hi Davie!
Just one quick question, what is it that you're using for the body, it was really hard to hear? Can it be bought online? Thanks!

Mr McPhail, Where are you getting your Turkey biot from? Having such trouble finding good ones.
Cheers ATB

Do you wax the thread for dubbing? If so is there any material you don't wax it for? Thanks.
