The Canadian International Air Show takes flight this weekend in Toronto

The Canadian International Air Show is happening this weekend at the CNE in Toronto. At Pearson Airport on Thursday, CHCH News got a sneak peek at some of the planes that will be flying.
The Canadian Armed Forces Snow Birds and Blue Angles from the U.S. Navy, are among the many fighter jets that will fly over Toronto’s waterfront this weekend. Captain Steven Sparks, of Hamilton, will be in the cockpit of one of the snowbird jets.
“When I finished university, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. I wanted to be a part of a team atmosphere. I grew up playing sports and that was huge in my life and I wanted to continue to be a part of a dynamic team working on developing my craft in some way. And so flying seemed like a great opportunity to kind of get into that, and definitely the Canadian Forces is all about that teamwork and professionalism,” said Sparks.
And it’s those personal stories that may inspire future pilots like 13-year-old Morgan Williams.
“So this is one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. It’s really cool getting close to all the jets that I’ve, you know, dreamed of flying,” said Williams.
Teens from the area got the chance to check out the jets up close, It’s all part of a program called ProAction Cops & Kids with Peel Regional Police.
The Canadian International Air Show says its mission is to celebrate aviation, honouring the past and inspiring the future by showcasing the best of aviation. The airshow will include vintage and modern planes.
“It’s a really cool thing to be able to sit down and, you know, be above the cities, especially for Toronto. I’ve flown over Hamilton very cool too, to see that from that perspective. But when we’re busy flying in formation, there are a lot of our focus is directed towards our lead aircraft and so we’re pretty busy when we’re flying,” said Sparks.
