I learned A LOT hanging out with this Blaan Community in South Cotabato. They are putting together a wellness community, to welcome visitors, and share parts of their culture. This video barely scratches the surface... I had so many amazing conversations with the locals here. Including a 98 year old Manong (you will see a clip in this video). I got so immersed in talking and learning with the locals, I didn't talk much to the camera. I hope you enjoy learning a little bit about the Blaan People with me. SMILE :)
Kulas, that wellness community of the b'laans was one of the projects of the late Gina Lopez. She started it to help the community achieve a sustainable livehlihood to help preserve the environment and preserve the b'laan culture.
You are very respectful of the culture Kulas. I am so grateful for your appreciation of the Filipino ways and traditions. I wish other foreign vloggers are as respectful as you are. I've lived in the United States for a long long time, and I could detect disingenuous or disrespectful attitudes of some of the foreign vloggers in the Philippines. They are so lucky to be in a land of friendly and hospitable people. They should show more appreciation.
I am proud to be Blaan, i was in this place few years ago as a teacher of the Blaan dalel Christian academy, i miss those people, those kids are my pupils, thank you so much Kulas for featuring our Blaan people, were the most creative people and very respectful indigenous people in the country, we Blaan are proud to be Blaan.bilaan words is using to bully us thats why we dont let any one called us bilaan! What a beautiful view from that wellness community, I am always so fascinated with the weaving you have shown in so many videos bro. It is so amazing how they can do such intricate works of art. I really need to go see how it is mad ass well Love their amazing craft. Very cool video as always.
Kyle's official trip to d wellness community of d Blaan ppl w/ TPB personnel. Those attires worn by d ladies are colorful n strikingly beautiful. And d BnB structures are purely built w/ organic materials. Ur stay in one of those structures will definitely reminds ur in d provincial setting n not in d city, n that's d whole idea to rest n rejuvenate peacefully. The trip is educational n promotes what d Blaan community has to offer as a potential tourist spot. Tnx Kyle ur a humble person n treats everyone w/ respect...
I'm glad TPB allowed u to stay using same vlog format, it simplies ur hectic life lately. Tnx 4 d highlighted comment. Ur life in PH is definitely evolving n hope will fulfill ur purposes of ur stay in Pinas :) Note: Tried to reply by email but failed. Been trying to figure out what's wrong. Kyle/Therine pls don't think I've been ignoring ur emails coz i"m not.

I never knew that this community do exist in Philippines They’re so artistic and very different amongst other culture. Thanks again for showing us a unique and diverse community.

@@BecomingFilipino It is lovely and I can't ignore the facts that my countrymen is doing everything in their capacity to restore their character and dignity. It is mindblowing.

Man, how can you not noticed the old tree in the background?! The tree trunk was so freaking big, lol! Congrats Kyle, the Tourism Promotions Board has chosen the right man for the job! I couldn't think of anyone better who can do it with real sincerity!
I hope this can be promoted as an alternative to going to the beach. Sa cool, fresh air and vegetables, away from traffic and electronics alternative naman. :)
what i really like about you kulas is your attitude, you always try to understand and embraces culture all around the philippines...that my friend is a simple way of respect....godbless you always brad kulas....amping permi...
Good job Kulas! For featuring nd interacting with one of Phil's. indigenous tribe (Blaan). I miss this classic segment of yours featuring different tribes in the Philippines. I hope more in the future. Good luck brad!
Very impressive Kulas to see and experienced the way of life in Polomolok Cotabato. You are truly the type of person promoting our beautiful cultures throughout the world, because you fully embraced our way of life, the love to the people all around you. We thank you for sharing your life's journey. God bless
I miss my hometown Polomolok so much!Thank you for featuring my ancestors culture..I may not learn their language and culture but I still brag that I’m a descendant of a Blaan..
Kulas thank you so much. This vlog is so interesting. I learn so many things from you that I myself don't know about some parts of my country and around it. Power up to you and your team. GODBLESS!
Long live the cultural heritage of the Philippines. Every region's culture is unique in itself. I am loving it. Thanks Kulas for proliferating the extensive beauty of the country's cultural diversity.
Hello Kulas! Thank You so much for showing the world and appreciate our culture, I am Blaan my self pure blooded and proud of it, my parents are both from Sarangani which is most of the Blaan people or community are from Cotabato or Gensan or Sarangani, most of the people here in the PH are not familiar with it, I remember someone I met in our company events, he was asking what dialect I spoke, and I said I'm Blaan, he was surprises because thy never heard of it, hopefully more and more Filipino will be educated about us and the different dialect and culture of its tribe in Mindanao and the whole philippinese, super Thank You and God Bless Flanek, nifat'em ktūham(Good Bless Brother, Ingatan mo sarili mo) ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Whats cool about us is we Blaan we have different tone and intonation when it comes to speak, words also, you have a lot of things or words to learn about us, my friends sometime heard me speak my native tongue, they thought I was speaking in Veitamese/Thai or Indian or Chinese,😂😂😂
A very interesting vlog. Nice to see the customs and traditions are passed down from one generation to the next. Not sure I would be able to do the weaving but could do the eating part haha.
Thank you Kulas for this educational and fun vlog. You are amazing for showing to the world and Filipinos the beauty of many cultures and places in the Philippines that I myself did not know and never been. I love that you are showing Mindanao it's positive and many beautiful sides. Growing up we only knew Mindanao as a place of fighting between military and Muslim. Thank you for introducing us to many tribes and cultures there that we didn't know. God bless and take care always.
True. There's so much culture in the Mindanao region but a lot of tourists (and even other Filipinos) wouldn't venture down there bc of fear of terrorist activities. The Luzon region has Metro Manila, the Cordilleras region, Batanes, etc., and the Visayas has a lot of beaches but Mindanao has a lot of gems as well.
This practices - preserved and be taught to the next generation 👍🏻. Those bead works & tela! 💜 ang ganda talaga pag sila may gawa 👌🏻 walang katulad. So much effort and time just for these designs.. a treasure really 💎
Wow nice collaboration, everythings new to me. I like what she weaves one day if Gods willing i would like to go and have one of those. The natine girls are pretty and cute, i like the wellness ideas the snacks and BB. Great viseo. Was it yummy? Good luck and thank you again kulas. God bless you
Hello Kyle, this kind of video is what I'm excited about show casing these important communities in and around the Philippines which would otherwise be hidden and not seen , thanks to the Tourism Promotions Board and your blessing to be invited with them in promoting these wonderful communities the Blaan are truly gifted in weaving and many other skills they have mastered . More and more of these important videos please and thank the Blaan community for sharing with us all :)
so sad that the foreigner is doing the job of spreading awareness towards culture preservation...it should be us filipinos who should be doing it......this should be a wake up call for all of filipinos...but still big thumbs up to kulas for doing this...thanks man...!!keep up.. #tangkilikinangsarilingatin
Ironically, it was Western people who darn near erased a lot of native Filipino culture. Lmao. I know Canadians didn't do anything bad to us but it's easier for foreign RUclipsrs to get views in the Philippines than Filipino RUclipsrs. Kulas shows a lot of respect and a yearning of knowledge for Filipino culture but we can't deny that Filipinos love it when foreigners (particularly White people) show an interest for the Philippines.
I really enjoyed interacting at this community.... I learned a lot and had a lot of experiences you wouldn't have seen on camera. I am going to go back here in the near future and spend lots of time!

Again, the proper way Bulaqueños eat banana leaf-wrapped suman is as follows:
• lift the leaf flap on one end of the suman
• without unwrapping the leaf, tear the flap end along the grain, pulling the torn leaves and exposing the suman
• bite and tear
• repeat
A very neat way to eat suman.
