Since the first time I watched this, my wife found a 280 year-old early American writing desk for an early birthday present. After I brought it home and started to organize my pens, inks and correspondence in it, I was reminded of your beautiful desk! I feel so fortunate.
I do love that desk, Alicia; this was the type of furniture my Granda used to make (he was a Master Carpenter/Joiner). As a boy, I would watch him construct such pieces from different types of wood. My Father was not interested, so I inherited his joinery skills, & I still build furniture for my home, today - time allowing; the satisfaction in such is so very therapeutic. I wonder, do you know the wood type used, there ? Perhaps Ash, or Oak - possibly Walnut ? Your desk is far more organised than mine, tho' I do know where everything is (surprisingly). Thanks for the insight into (your) pen-related paraphernalia !! :)
Oh my goodness! I just discovered your channel and can't believe I found someone in AZ nuttier than I am about fountain pens and journal covers! I have a similar desk from the 20s or 30s (also found at an antique store, but in Albuquerque, NM) that has little cubby drawers that I use to store my pens, nibs, inks, etc. I was blown away by your pen collection and cases! You need to go antiquing with me in Prescott!
Hi Alicia, what a nice secretary desk with all the compartment and drawers. Also Love the way you are so organized. I see you have a bunch of hobbies to keep you busy. Love the video. Be safe and well.
I've been bingewatching your videos today (only about 5--but will watch them all eventually!) and I really admire your commitment to vintage goods, vintage fountain pens, and an intentional life. Often that word ("intentional") is annoyingly overused these days, but seeing your desk, all the places for your treasures and inks and how well you take care of your stuff--it really struck me that you are intentional in the best possible way! You have such a great sense of humor, also. Cheers!
The aviation trading cards are wonderful. After seeing yours during your first desk video, I found a set for me. Great stuff!. As a kid, my biggest collecting passion was American plate block stamps. ... still have them many decades later.
If you’d ever like a post card from way down south here in Southern Louisiana, just let me know! 😁 I adore your desk set up and it makes me want to tidy my own. 😂
That's a lovely desk! I've been looking for something like it for ages, but the ones I find always have some issue that rule them out, most often locked drawers or other compartments with no key.
Super cool desk. Ma'am, do you write poetry? You seem to have a poet's/writer's soul. I know you journal and are working on a story, I was researching fountain pens and came upon some of your videos this morning. You said that you often sat at coffee shops and such and wrote about what you saw. I go to places like that to get into the mood, a zone, a trance-like zone, then write about the beauty I see or things I think would make a good poem. I can easily teach you how to write poetry through youtube comments and challenge you, if you'd like. I believe you would make a great poet.
OMG Lived every minute! Crazy I know. Love the cheese boxes, great tip about the postcards!. Suggestions? Dollar tree sells trays for the ink. Though, check the depth of your drawer. Or HomeGoods has beautiful wood trays. look around for a leather/ felt desk pad. Oh, and the keys to the desk would look beautiful on a tassel. And last but not least what is the leather pouch from the first drawer?
Mai Britton the cheese boxes have been so great to have. I might look into some drawer organization for the inks, thanks for the tips! The leather pouch, maybe the Superior Labor pen roll or zip up pouch that you were seeing.
What’s in your desk? Apparently, a ferret! :-). Beautiful desk by the way. I hope to find one like that some day. Great idea about saving samples of your journal paper.
I love this video. Your desk is beautiful. You mentioned the envelopes from Flagstaff? we went there on the first week of our honeymoon many years ago.
A snoofly ferret is in your desk! He is so perfectly cute! I love how organized your desk is. I aspire to be that organized, but it is hard with a child who constantly makes messes and plays with Mama's things (because that is what children do). Who made your uke in the background? Some day when I finish lutherie school I would love to make you your dream instrument. Your content is so inspiring to me and has brought me so much joy.
Jennie Eveleigh Lamond my desk is constantly becoming messy, and being reorganized. I think it’s a sign of something put to good use! I would imagine having children would make things harder to keep everything just so, because they too probably have their own way or rearranging their space, haha! The ukulele is made by Little Timber. You’re in lutherie school??? That sounds absolutely incredible, and I am honored, absolutely, that you’d even consider me in your journey!
@@adventuredenali I left a career in critical care nursing to follow my dream and go into lutherie school. I think with everything going on in the world (and on my old floor) I made this decision at a very opportune time! I hope to make Baroque and Romantic style instruments when I finish :) Right now I am making a tenor ukulele and a classical guitar.
Fine powder = talc? I love your desk. Your pen, papers, and inks are so much more organized than mine. A desk or central storage area helps I'm sure. I have a few pen chests and some shelving above my watchmaker's workbench for my inks. Otherwise, I am forever searching around for my cleaning and nib tuning supplies. Thanks for your video.
Rick Hoover oh yes, talc! That’s the one. Yeah having a space just for these things really do help. This desk has fit that need wonderfully. You work with watches? How amazing! I have an old watch from the early 1900s. It’s wonderful. Recently stopped working, maybe one of the gears broke, I’m not sure. A special piece though, from a very different time.
@@adventuredenali Sorry to hear about the broken watch. Until you were to get it repaired .. it's still accurate, twice a day. :) Yes, mechanical watches are fascinating. Workkng on pens and watches keeps my mind very active.
I know, aren’t they the cutest things? I had a friend when I was a teen who had three, we loved to just sit and watch them run around and play, they are hilarious!
@@adventuredenali yes, of course! I have it located in a corridor that gives access to my office. If you want, I can send you a photo where you indicate me. Regards!
I’m planning a move to Tucson this year and am wondering if the summer heat dries out your tube paints? I actually went to pans for watercolor because of that (it’s hot where I currently live) but I have a lot of gouache tubes and wonder if they survive better than watercolor? Am assuming inks are untouched by heat. Your desk is beautiful, by the way!
Christine Cortese oh wonderful! The paints stay fine in the tube, gouache and watercolor both. And the inks don’t have any issue either. I wouldn’t leave a fountain pen in the car though!

Could a person ooze more cool than you? I think not. Love that burl inlay on your desk. Gorgeous! Always love your vids Alicia!

Awesome video....per usual ;)

I did my writing slope video today!
Wonderful, as always! What are those envelopes? They look sturdier than most.
Gary Gentile I wish I could remember! They’re 100% cotton, but that’s all I know. They are sturdy, and do well with fountain pens.
