Sometimes the weather in Seattle is less than desirable. On days where I want to stay inside, I will go shopping. Today I went shopping at IKEA to avoid the rain. And I found a few items that I need.
I bought a throw pillow. And I bought a pack of rechargeable AAA batteries. The IKEA batteries are very good quality and appear to be Eneloop batteries but sold for nearly have the price.
While I prefer to be outside all day, sometimes I find walking around a nice store or mall to be ok.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

It's a good thing to hang out with coffee in Ikea. I'm kind of a loner but I know that I need to have "human contact" at least once a day. You might not like the humans you're in contact with but humans are social creatures. You don't have to really interact with anyone but being around people is good for your mental health. If it gets unpleasant you can always leave.

Gosh, I agree with you in principle, but I too am a loner, and I could kick back in the van with a good book and a cup of coffee pretty much all day. I have social anxiety disorder, which to me means that I would rather have my fingernails pulled out one by one than to be forced to make idle talk with someone I don't know!

I really like your take on this. I'm also a loner and prefer to be NOT around other people at all... But I recognize that as a human perhaps I should be, more than I do.
I like your idea of being in public around people, but keeping in mind that one does not have to interact with any of them. Thanks!🙂👍🏼

I bought a Carhart vest at a Home Depot and love it. Like you, I wear layers of merino wool and hardly ever wear a puffy jacket unless the temperatures are really low. Every one of my pillows (three of them) and any item that has the extended labels have them cut off with scissor. Once purchased, you can remove them. I do the same thing on inclement weather days...walk in malls and browse. I like the zippered case you bought for the throw pillow, giving it a cleaner and neater look. I really lucked out this winter and found a mountain vacation cottage to housesit long term...free of rent and utilities. 😊

Just the sounds of raindrops on the roof, a good meal in the prep, letting us into your cozy van, and watching you enjoy your fav coffee is always a nice way to view something predictable in this day and age of too of van life videos. When I backpack I found I got really good at finding random wall outlets out in public. Backpacking taught me everything weighs something and takes up space. That said, here in western WA, jackets get damp and this idea wouldn’t be a practical solution for soggy outerwear but perhaps a good way to deal with bulky sweaters.

:) Thanks for sharing! I had to LOL as I know that Fred Meyer, and you are right, its a Zoo most of the time! Fred Meyer was based out of Portland before Kroger bought them and not as good :( I used to go to Waji's down there as well, and its a smaller one than Downtown, but more accessible for most. Take care and ALL the BEST! Cheers:)

The first time I parked overnight in that area, I parked a few blocks from Fred Meyer. It was impossible to sleep. The noise from 167 was bad. But even worse was the steep hill where I parked. All night I kept sliding down my bed and would have to inchworm my way back up to stretch out.
It’s funny now but it was probably the worst nights sleep ever! Hahaha

I tested one of those heated vests for CRVL. It had a 30K milliamp battery. What I realized is that I don't really need more torso heat. It's my extremities that get cold. As for pillows, I have two and a "half" foam pillows. The smaller one goes under my knees when I sleep.
Have you checked the long range winter forecast for the PNW, what with a strong El Niño this year and all that? The prediction for down here is cooler and wetter.

The IKEA Ladda are supposedly just rebrands of Panasonic Eneloops but cheaper (same factory out of Japan) ^_^ I've bought quite a lot of them, I'm surprised the prices haven't gone up because they really are a great deal.

I found the bodywarmer on Amazon UK for £34.99, I tend to go out to my local park most mornings to do a spot of birding, on my mobility scooter depending on weather and with the autumn fast approaching The bodywarmer may well be a purchase quite soon, your channel is quite interesting, thank you Mike, West Bromwich UK

I personally love vests. When it's very cold, I find it's a necessary as second layer under a down jacket. When it's bit milder, I find it perfect to wear with a long sleeve (55 - 61 deg) or short sleeve (62 - 67 deg).

Re solar and dark days in Seattle… I live in Seattle and some of my neighbors have solar panels on their roofs… I think that’s a very expensive endeavor but I always thought “well that must pay off for them”… but now hearing from you that dark cloudy days don’t produce any power I wonder if it’s a very good idea to invest in solar in the Pacific Northwest… probably not IMO. Left turn, I love that you’re so conscientious about even throwing your pillow in IKEA’s trash can. Very cute! ❤😊

    • @StaticCamperVan
      @StaticCamperVan  21 день назад

It’s more about how many solar panels a system has. Because I only have two panels, my system doesn’t generate much electricity. If I had more panels, I’d get enough electricity even in the PNW

It’s manic here, with the shopping tussle for Christmas in full swing, seeing you happy with a pear and coffee, reaffirms the true pleasure of simple things. l am currently liking a cup of tea and a persimmon finely sliced (which are in season for such a brief time here). So I’m happy to leave excess shopping for ‘stuff’ we don’t need with money we don’t have, to other people. Cheers

Just watching from Vancouver Canada yup we have same weather pretty much the same all the way up the Pacific northwest. Lots of rain well we call Vancouver raincouver ,better than snow any day. I was going to say you should try out your new pillow for a day or so before tossing the other pillow see if you like it. I was watching the part where you have a flashlight light USB charger on it, because I am from Canada we have different outlet stores here than your side, Canadian Tire is a huge automotive store but does sell lots of other stuff too. Last week they had these awesome USB spotlights for 10.00 bucks called MasterCraft 180 lumen waterproof spotlight I love it last two hours if used continuously completely waterproof and easily can hang it on something. I keep several in my van under front seat and a few in the back cubby. They may have something similar state side I picked it up for $10.00 Canadian total bargain for this item.
