The fact that there were multiple great great players didn't have the unanimous title does not make this case right. We should not make this pettiness a norm, we need to give credit where its due.
Everyone agrees that Hank Aaron should’ve been a unanimous first ballot HoF. But writers are holding that against the players of today is bullshit. At the very least, the votes should be made available to the players on the ballot. Making it available to us would be a problem because fans are crazy. Robb in the booth needs his own show!!!
Whether the game is played on the east coast or the west coast or even on the other side of the earth, in a day and age when you could get video clips of any player/team you wish just by tapping your iPhone, there is no reason Ichiro shouldn't be unanimous. In the days Hank Aaron and Willie Mays played, we weren't able to and there were writers who never watched them play.
When inducting a player into the Hall of Fame, do the voters include ALL of a players' career? Remember Ichiro played in the Pacific League for 8 years before playing in the US. While he played in the Pacific league, he won 7 batting titles and 3 MVP titles. that doesn't include the league titles his teams won.

its an imperfect system with sports writers. grudges and who knows what about them. look at this. Joe DiMaggio waited three years to be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame, from 1953 to 1955. He was eligible in 1953, but didn't make it until 1955. 3 MVP's and 2 runner ups and 56 game hitting streak and .325 lifetime BA plus 9 x 100 RBI's years and he averaged over 140 RBI's for his career. So anytime someone brings up 1 vote here or couple MORE there or what, think about Joe D?
There are several players that should’ve been unanimous. That’s not the argument. The argument is “now that one guy has been unanimous, we need to accept that it’s a normal thing” Mariano Rivera had no right to be the first unanimous. None. Was he the best reliever/closer/save guy of all time? Of course he was? Did he deserve to be unanimous, OF COURSE. But he shouldn’t have been the first. And he sure as hell shouldn’t be the only. Ichiro should’ve been because I can’t think of a viable reason he shouldn’t be. Too many people act like this is a marker of greatness. Like “oh he received 99.97% of the vote” yeah that means there’s one idiot voting who thinks he shouldn’t have gotten in. That’s wrong. It’s not like they are all in one room and say “okay everyone vote this way except you and you because this guy was great but he wasn’t 100% of the vote great”. If Ty Cobb, Walter Johnson, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan, Lou Gehrig, Ken Griffey Jr, and Jeter can’t get in unanimously then don’t let it happen. But you did let it happen so now you need to stop gate keeping. Just like Rob G said. Make it public and I bet you it won’t be an issue anymore.
