Both amazing actresses. "You make me feel safe." Very important. Very glad she mentions confidentiality and is knowledgeable. Smart short film.
The first book starts with the explanation of how this conversation was born. I'm not trying to be secretive, but that book tells it so much better than I ever could.
I love these films! They leave you wanting more!!
This was brilliant. Usually with the shorts I am left wanting more but when I actually get more its not the way I want it. Leaving all of those burning questions unanswered leaves something to the imagination and avoids over acting, or plot lines dragging. In my humble opinion this was perfection.
Amazing! I wish there was more to it! I need more!!!
Such a wonderful short film
I think that might just be their abilities in their art shining through. Whatever work they decide to do, actors of this caliber will always look like they're really into it. They can't help it.
Wish this was longer...I totally could watch this if it was a bigger film. But for what it is, it was amazing. 💕
Thank you for sharing your story, very brave of you.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!
another great story...WIGS is my absolute favorite youtube channel
I love this film too because, like you said, it is real and very raw and (from what I know) it is an accurate representation of something that goes on every day in our society. It really is a tragedy when young girls feel as if they must go through this all alone. Usually it's extremely difficult for a young girl to tell her parents that she's pregnant because she feels so much guilt or shame about it.
Besides the genre stuff, this is actually a pretty power packed short. We have a doctor who finds herself in a difficult situation and a moral dilemma when she is faced with the request of Hannah. I liked it that they didn't preach at us either or make us sympathetic to one side or the other. It just showed a situation that one doctor, one day found herself in.
this SO needs to be a series!!
This should be a series!!
Such great actresses. Beautifully shot and very well written too.
I want to know more!!!!!!! Please make this into a series!
WOW This this was awesome. This could be a great series. Dying to know the parents and the friends and all that back ground info, and the baby's daddy....Wanna know what happens and how it effects the friendships later. WWOWOWOOW!
IKR !! I love this
Now that's great acting!
This video is a good way to get people to talk about a difficult issue. There is still so much controversy because it's a tough subject. All the factors included show it puts women in a difficult position of knowing who they can trust. Hannah left knowing her rights as a patient and that their conversation was privileged. Celia's role as a doctor was second to her role as a friend to her mother but she's still obligated to keep it secret. Time will tell whether the baby is born or not.
This is amazing! it's a great video to introduce my argumentative writing unit!!, can I use it?
Yay Luella! You're back in the game and you made a good point! The determination of life in the womb has absolutely nothing to do with whether that developing body could live without the mother. Just because they are dependent on the mother to develop a body, does not make them dead matter. It just makes them dependent, but alive all the same.
Wow. very interesting, well written and the acting was very good.
AMAZING
Good short film
Great casting.
More please!
I can't believe we won't get at least one more episode! I feel gipped. ;(
I really wish this was a series!
Celia is really between a rock and a hard place! WOW. WIGS goes deep!
I have a feeling that you intended that as an insult, so touché. But I find that there is a sort of beauty to the economy of having a quick shoot. These are very pared down scripts, scenes and some of them only have two actors and maybe a few extras. "Lean is the new fat" was one of the slogans I saw. I'm sure not every person is going to embrace this new direction in film making, but I find it refreshing and best of all, it's free!
Well, there is a genre of short stories and films. Rather than tell an epic story, it may focus on a situation rather than huge sweeping saga. Wigs does seem to focus on short stuff. I can see that many people are getting bent out of shape because a short "situation" is not something they are familiar with. But when I took film classes, this is precisely the sorts of stuff we worked on. Short films focusing on a situation. It's a perfectly legitimate genre.
Is there going to be more episodes? It was like BOOM then CYA! What the heck??
Does anyone wish there was more of this? Then again, considering how busy these actresses are and Wigs is obsolete, it's probably never going to happen. Sucks because this maybe one of my favorite shorts not just on RUclips but of all time.
That's a really great comment actually. When I have a daughter, I hope we can talk about things like that without fear or judgement.
Kudos for delving into such a controversial subject...you've got my attention WIGS :)
The one thing, I would tell Dakota's character is that, nothing will ever be the same whether you keep it, give it away or abort it. No matter what, you will still have this memory and either one will haunt you.
Dakota Fanning... all grown up... I love these series of Wigs... love them all
You don't sound convinced. LOL!!
Don't forget that while Celia was thinking about things, Hannah walked out. The thing about people acting professionally, is that they are still people. They too have feelings and need to think things over. Hannah came expecting that Celia would just say yes and when she had reservations, Hannah freaked. And if Hannah is still living at home and being supported by her parents then it isn't as simple as it's none of their business. This situation is far more complex than that.
usually filming an episode in a day. 5. Marta Kaufmann called the script "done in shorthand", meaning it is a new way of telling stories in short episodes or series. Perhaps you are right that some of the actors are just doing favors for them, but still, I get the feeling that they feel this type of thing is just as much art as the other genres and are proud to be a part of it.
wow....just wow....
luv dis movie n i luv dakota fanning
I love Dakota fanning n she's right is a girls choice n no one else's n anyone who says that abortion is murder is not thinking what a teen mom or anyone who's not ready cant provide for a child at the moment
She may not want to do what she has to do at all. It is part of her profession this is someone in her inner circle. When you can tell yourself the lie ( I don't have to care) but you do whether their your kids you know or not. Plus can you imagine if her mom is her best friend. That's why I love this it's real and very raw. As someone who was involved in the medical field. It's heart breaking to not be able to tell the parents (your friends) about their child. In an issue like this.
"They also liked the shooting schedule which was quick." lol Yeah i bet it was! lol
Why isn't this a series with seasons?!?!?! This was a great look at a controversial topic.
Wow!
This one is good.
No one in Celia's position should ever be forced to consult her parents for the sole reason that some parents are abusive. It's her body, her choice.
How so? Both comments are consistent. Life begins when the child is born. When they become a separate organism that breaths AIR under their own natural instinct to do so.
I really wish Wigs would enable stats for their videos!
love it
we could sqwauk all day about the specific arguments made in this short film for having an abortion versus not having an abortion, but at the end of the day this is an incredible feat of acting. two imperfect and complex characters representing two imperfect and complex points of view - genius. forget the issues they're discussing for 5 seconds and just appreciate the subtlety and realism with which they acting out a situation that is all too real for many young people these days.
In those last 20 seconds I wonder what Celia was thinking
i love dakota!!! great actress
SO five stars ♥ this wish it would have continued.
wooo! talk about a cliff-hanger! It feels like a mini-series, not a short film.
If like the topic you should see October BABY LOVED IT. Tears of love
I had my child at a young age, she became both a blessing and a burden. Sometimes I wonder what my life could have been, should have been, and truth be told 6 years later I havent come to terms with my situation. I shouldve have had an abortion, but I didnt. I see her as a blessing in disguise, I love her and would die and kill for her and for her only. Having a child is a true unbreakable bond.
Wow everyone had great comments!! I'm sorry I don't have one but I wish if that was my daughter that she would feel comfortable to come to me for help.
- Falling in love with Dakota Fanning, brb...
Brillant
I would call her performance subtle and understated. You can see the emotions if you look for them, like when she is sitting there in the beginning waiting for the doctor to arrive. But she isn't a drama queen. I thought she was entirely believable in this role and behaved exactly how a young, distressed woman would when they are negotiating for what they want.
*sniff*sniff* Always gets me.
why is this not a whole series??
I remember a few years ago when movie stars started crossing over and doing television. Years before there was a stigma attached and working in television seemed like a "lesser" art form. Now actors routinely cross over to all sorts of genres: TV, films, theater and now this...I still think Wigs has some kinks to work through, so they get it just right, and I'm sure they will evolve and grow. For now, I think they are on a shoestring budget, though, but somehow the actors are there and willing.
Thank you Bhumi, I couldn't have said it better..... : )
This could be a good series. Seeing how this subject affects the doctors involved. The stress this job involves.
I believe all what you said here is your opinion and how you personally feel. For some women, it really is 'a clean break' as abrasive as that sounds.
I love Dakota its scary
when I see her in anything because her and my daughter look alike. I really liked this show would like to see more episodes!
Great point Bhumi! I would definitely feel betrayed! :)
where and when is next film.....
Yep.... very nice comment and I completely agree.
They so do I have just put this on my Facebook page I hope that everyone does the same not just because of this episode but because of the rest of the series too. I know this sounds crazy but I ♥ Blue, Jan,Lauren, and this one now these shows would be something I would watch.
Is there only one clip of Celia?
Where did you acquire this information?
Allison Janney is my queen.
Since the heartbeat is what we use to determine if someone's alive or dead, then I think that is when "life" is present. When there's a heartbeat.
Yay! :3
Dear Wigs... Please enable statistics for your videos! Thank you!
I take it that you must have meant for this to be directed to me since I asked where you got that information. But if you want to direct your reply to a particular person, there is a reply button right next to the thumbs to the right of the comment and the person you are replying to can actually know that you answered. I will look into this author, but the next question I have is, where did he get his information?
That's the one i like the best.
Ah, i didn't realize you hadn't read any prior comments. The discussion had moved from the video into the much wider context of 'real world'. You can't be blamed for not knowing this.
She wants it to be clean so she doesn't have to worry about the child in the future. But the doctor is hesitant to agree because she knows it will be anything but clean emotionally.
Conversations with God trilogy, & Home with God by Neal Donald Walsch. They're very eye opening, you should definitely read them.
i can't believe that is dakota!!
very true.
hmmm.... well I can't claim to be in the minds of the actors who do these Wigs projects, but I have watched all of the BTS which feature the actors talking about their roles as well as what WIGS means to them. I have also read and seen interviews with the artists on the internet. Hope I can fit this all in one text box, but if not, I'll continue in another. What I keep hearing from practically all of them is one of the following: 1. They have either worked with Rodrigo or Jon before.....
Can I act in any of your movies. Am an actress and i love ur series.
The key here it that it's the end of THEIR life, and it's THEIR heart that is or isn't beating. They're obviously a separate individual at adulthood/old age. Their life and heart are clearly their own. But in early pregnancy the heart and life of a newly concieved 'whatever you want to call it' belongs to the woman as it's unseparable from her own body. So it's hers. And it's her choice to stop it or to let it continue growing.
I did use that button, or at least I meant to! :)
His book will answer your question about where he gets his information.
The one thing that I felt as Hannah was going over her choices, and concluding that an abortion was the cleanest alternative, was the simple fact that she will carry this act with her always. It's a point that the doctor never brings up, along with the risks, as a potential ongoing mental dilemma that some counseling might help clarify. Since this case is personal, Dr. Brooks might consider recusing herself while assisting with locating counseling and abortion services. We'll see soon enough.
Yes, and you can imagine that this gives them just one more opportunity to work. Who wouldn't want that?
Well, if you look at the Behind the Scenes, the actors were more than thrilled to work with Rodrigo Garcia on these shorts, so, it must merit big name talent if they love acting in them. It certainly isn't the money they do it for, LOL! There is even an Oscar for short films, so obviously the world of filmmakers seem to find merit in the genre as well and don't feel it is something to be relegated to the classroom only.
Yes, I think you got at the crux of the issue. When Hannah walks into her office, it creates a situation for Celia where those two worlds collide. Hence her dilemma.
Hmmm..... what view is it that you find backwards?
What did you mean by FOX?
thumbs up if this is the first time you're watching WIGs and you clicked on it because of Allison Janney & Dakota Fanning names were on the title.
