I've been saying for years that Eren is kind of crazy. The dude has a few screws loose and no one... really questions it. Like no one in the story ever calls into question Eren's mental state. They do that for Reiner but never Eren which I find rather perplexing. He murdered 2 grown adults at 8 years old, it never seemed to even remotely phase him in the slightest, he belittles anyone who's content with just living out their lives behind the walls, even calling them cattle. Its interesting how he goes from the main hero of the story to later the final boss (main villain, not antagonist because thats not how it works jesus christ). Chapters 138 and 139 really messed it up, I was routing for Eren, not because i was able to agree with his methods but because it was so interesting to be invested in a character that was SO FAR GONE. Pre-chapter 139, I was really convinced Ere was doing all this for not only the island but also his own desire for absolute freedom. That he truly believes the only way to succeed in attaining his, he had to destroy what laid byond the walls. Now THAT.... would've made for a jaw dropping theme.
Is that not what happened? He said he wanted to do it not just for his friends and the island but also because deep down he wanted to flatten the world

I started watching AOT only this year and i remember vividly that after 3-4 episodes of s1 i was talking to my friend, who recommended me the series and i mentioned to her that i seem to be enjoying the series, but the main guy, Eren... there is something off about him. my friend just smiled and told me to keep watching it. after finishing manga earlier this year and anime yesterday, i realized how right i was about him. it was so weird to see the guy so small being so cruel and impatient. in ep1, when Eren sees the survey corp coming back to the town, he overheard someone in the crowd saying "we should stop funding survey corp with tax payers' money because they do no good" and Eren kicked that guy straight away. Considering that Eren was born and raised until that moment in full, loving family, it was quiet obvious to me that his behaviour is disturbing.

@silksonic3927 Good for you, you're a psycho too. Probably doing psycho things behind your key board and thinking you're some normal well-adjusted model citizen.
You guys seem to forget, he’s crazy in the beginning because it wasn’t REALLY the “beginning.” He had been through several other timelines. He had already been through everything, tried everything else, got so mentally screwed up during the entire thing, and then had to start off at square one, each and every time. It’s why he would wake up crying under the tree with Mikasa as a child. He tried saving everyone in so many ways, but Ymir quite literally made it impossible for him to be free. She wanted him to die a specific way, she wanted MANY people to die so she can have her revenge, because they were all puppets in her story, so she could watch what SHE wanted play out in order for her to move on. It was always already decided and the timeline we’re all watching is the one where he finally gives up on freedom, on being with his friends, and on the love of his life, Mikasa. He was never free or the one calling the shots. He was a puppet of Ymir.

People say that he has no choice to do the things he's doing, because he's seen it in the future, and therefore it's set in stone and can't change. I've always argued that, he could just say no to committing literal onmicide, and the timeline would split into a different one, with a different future. If there are multiple timelines, there must be some where sasha lives, and there also must be some where they could find a way to save the island without killing the entire planet.

@@jojohnviz12 theme of the show
I've been saying for years that Eren is kind of crazy.

Considering that Eren was born and raised until that moment in full, loving family, it was quiet obvious to me that his behaviour is disturbing.
