We are incredibly grateful to Shademp, Jason Maltz, the staff behind 7th Heaven, the folks on Qhimm's forums, and all other members of FFVII's magnificent modding community, past and present, for forging and discovering the tools and material to make Shinra Arch's work possible. We are ever mindful that we stand on the shoulders of giants.
Extra thanks to Orichalcon for his help explaining model mechanics.

0:53 "Did Sephiroth do this?"
LMFAO
That part killed me
It's a valid concern! XD
This might be the best FFVII joke of all time.
Cracked me up
Dyinnng LOL!!
The model actually looks quite nice by FFVII standards once corrected.
This didn't get mentioned directly in the video, but the cape part of the model uses bones no other model in the game uses. Totally unique to this NPC. She's also one of the only models with that long hair bone (Reno is the only other character besides those mentioned in the video that has it off the top of my head.) It's a really high quality model, which is what makes it so strange. We wondered if her design was a reference to something, but couldn't find anything.
I just always assumed they reused Reno’s model, personally. I never paid them that much attention, but I always thought they looked like a twin pair of Renos.
She has the look of a socialite. Maybe something related to the LOVELESS stage play?
DON'T TALK SHIT ABOUT _FINAL FANTASY VII'S_ GRAPHICS
*dabs with entire leg*
The fact that the error is so blatant but camera angle and zoom plus the limitation of resolution back then made it (kind of) hidden is wild. It really was a different time.
I always thought they are some kind of robot didn’t realized they actually the girls lol.
i always thought that aggressive leg was a rifle, oops!
Best FFVII content I have in my life right now are these videos.
That's true. I devour all of these while waiting for part 3
Yeah they are really well done compared to the Nerd Reading ChatGPT deep dives that are out there.
I like that this video was very succinct. You introduced the NPC, explained all the context and the cause of it, and gave some fun trivia all within five minutes. Very nice to not have things drawn out to pad for time like many channels would do.
"Yo, what's up guys! This is Elixir and I'm gonna tell you about these CRAAAZY NPCs you never noticed!!! It's wild! But first, we gotta deep dive into the history of FF7 and tell you everything you've heard for 27 years. Don't worry, I'll mix in an ad or two, as I know you can't live without them. But seriously, WTF were Square thinking w/ this NPC, y'all?! Was it a secret boss they never implemented??? Ok, let's go! So FF7 came out in........"

The morse code at 0:46 says "kill me" and at 3:41 it says "father why" Nice details
We underestimated our viewers.
I had my suspicion there was a message knowing these creators. Thanks for confirming!
lol this video really goes hard
😂😂😂😂😂
@@Shoryucas is last elixir also shinra archeology ?
I love the crunching sound as their limbs fold into the correct position.

Love “Did… did Sephiroth do this?”
I’ve also never heard of this bug anywhere else. Thanks for covering more obscure details.
"I don't know how long a RUclips channel that focuses only on weird Final Fantasy 7 trivia can last."
"Here's an in-depth look at a janky NPC dancing the Watusi."
"Well I'll be darned."
Honestly this can go forever if they include other FF games too lmao. FF Union is really the only other channel I can think of that does things like this but their style is different.
These videos are so interesting. Please keep making them. You have a great style and the way you create new art just for the videos to make it more entertaining and impactful is awesome.❤ I love learning new things about my favorite video game.
Also they’re straight to the point. The algorithm is recommending 30-40 min videos so these are like the diamond in the rough.
Thanks for your generosity!
the recurring "TWO!?" gag from axel is legit a staple lore of this video at this point
I love how we're so obsessed with this game that we're going into the source files to solve such trivial mysteries as "why does this one NPC who doesn't do anything look weird?"
we? lol

Damn! I have always found those two NPCs very strange, as unlike other Models they don't turn to you when speaking, and we don't see the same model anywhere else. I just couldn't tell what I was supposed to make out of them, as you pointed out the lack of details on the PS1 version.
Sephiroth definitely did that. Of all my times playing this game, I've never noticed this error.
Great to see you in here! Thanks so much for the awesome track.
@@LastElixirProductions I should be thanking you- it isn't everyday someone wants to use my tunes as bgm. I definitely appreciate it!
I'm so excited when you make a new video. You came out of nowhere just as a finished another playthrough of FF7 and I'm loving all of your content
Man, I've played FF7 numerous times on psx and pc and never noticed this lol.
Your content is great dude, one of my favorite channels atm ❤
That's amazing. I never saw the detail to realize exactly what those NPCs were doing and didn't second guess it. That scene has a really high, distant camera.
You have no idea how much those NPCs bothered me (I thought they were cool robots or something). Thank you for the closure.
This is something that I have always wondered about since I first saw it! Thanks alot for finally solving this mystery for us!
This really is an amazing channel and I look forward to whatever topics you bring up in the future!! 😁👍
Dude amazing work! Love the style, the explanations, the graphics, the humor. Keep it up!
Your videos are so well produced and show stuff we haven't seen anywhere. Amazing! Keep up the great job!
As a kid, playing this game on the PSX, I've always noticed how these NPCs indeed never appeared anywhere else.
the editing is so good. i love these videos. also i have never noticed this, good lord
I love how niche this channel gets with its topics. Best FFVII content by far.
I love this kind of deep dive stuff. Explanations to questions we've had since childhood.
Man, just wanted to say the effort you put into these videos really shows. So glad I randomly stumbled across you early on, your stuff is genuinely leagues ahead of channels 100x your size doing the 38th top 10 list. Great stuff.
Please never stop producing this content you’re my favorite channel on RUclips.
Almost certainly they are broken because of the PS1 version. QA likely did not notice the model looked mangled due to the low resolution so did not file a report to get it fixed. As shown at ~0:25 they look fairly reasonable with the PS1 resolution and testers likely thought that was how they were meant to look.
Ok? You just repeated what the video already said.
@@ThorStoneGaming nah they're highlighting specifically why QA mightve missed it on PS1, the video only briefly touched on what it looked on PS1, not the likely consequences of that.
I wonder what they look like in hi-res on PS1. Like if you used DuckStation to render at 4k then zoomed in, would they be as janky as on PC? Cause in the PS1 footage, they don't seem to have the same extreme contortion of their model as they do on PC.
@@neogohanamv I suspect some of the visible features of the model's condition are not visible on the PS1 because of a combination of low resolution sampling and the PS1 having quite low numeric precision when it comes to handling model meshes. The vertices might have been rounding towards the body of the model, further masking any apparent issues.
The only thing missing from this video is the corrected model rendered in the game itself.
m8, just want to say these FF7 videos are great. Super interesting, funny, and really creatively edited.
I always did find these npcs looked strange as a child, but could never place the reason. I actually heard about their legs being mangled by deathunites us on twitch, but this video breaking it down and showing us the correct pose is amazing, thank you.
My guess is that the Shinra Onna NPCs were originally going to be staffing 1F (sitting at the receptionist desks) and 2F (manning the shop) of the Shinra Building considering their design as traditional Japanese Office Ladies but they and their animations were pruned for some reason. At some point someone did a quick model but not animation swap replacing the guards with the office ladies causing the bugged out model.
I always thought that NPC was supposed to be holding a gun or something!! Always thought they looked weird. But its ff7 so I also thought they might be automated tech that was stylized.
Never thought it was a horrific disfigured woman! 😂
That was my first guess until he zoomed in and showed their configuration 😂 ! I learn so much here.
I thought they were in some sort of fancy pose, you know, eccentric, as some FF characters are, including a few people who also help you sneak through the building. Maybe some elite guard or mercenary that's styling too hard to question who you are.
Same I also thought they are some quirky security robots.
Another banger of a video. This is an insanely high quality channel.
Thank you for making these videos. Seriously.
It's crazy how a game almost as old as I am is getting this kind of attention with such high quality editing.
This is some high quality content. I love that you don't just simply illuminate these mysteries, but really look for an answer. And not just a half baked one. Y'all do legitimate work to get to the bottom of this stuff. This is truly top tier FF7 content. Do you have any thoughts on exploring the other PS1 FF games?
The use of the chibi models on this channel is always so charming
They had to be horrifying to scare off the group from barging past.
never even noticed them since you only go towards them once first time you play and never even look at them afterwards
These kinds of errors are always fun to learn about.
This guys channel is crushing it!! Please more
Just wanna say I rarely subscribe to new channels, but you're a gem. There isn't any shortage of FF7 deep dives of course, but they're usually quite long and re-tread the same ground as everyone else. Yours are concise, EXTREMELY well edited (love the time you spend creating assets and doing the overlays) and I've never known about a most of the stuff you're covering here, and I thought I'd seen it all!
No wonder your channel is off like a rocket right from the get go. Please keep at it.
Oh man, this was an interesting dive. I wonder if Akiyama could be asked about it? According to IMDB he's still likely working at Square Enix.
Even back playing on the ps1 I noticed this, I would go close up to my tv and say "wtf is that?"
Loving all these videos, thank you so much for the deep dives on all these FF7-related mysteries.
Because they were so distorted I always thought they were some kind of robot telling unautorized personell to turn back xD
This channel is so good. Need more!
Consistently blown away by this channel. Such great content and editing!
Biblically accurate guard
This has been bothering me for 20 years, thank you! 😂 On the original I thought they looked like Reno's in game character model reused from above, but in the remastered version they just look even more bizarre and confused the hell out of me.
I love this channel! Its cool how you make the animations!
The NPC looks great
I bet she would look amazing in the remakes
They should include a nod to the mistake made in the original.
That's one thing that's missing in Remake and Rebirth... updating some of the more distinct NPCs so we could finally see them in all their glory (the same way the Resident Evil 2 remake updated the "zombie girl in a red shirt"). It's not a huge issue or anything, but most of Remake/Rebirth NPCs are pretty generic-looking so a few more distinct (and recogniseable) character models would've been cool to see!
Best ff7 channel!
I had no idea that was their legs. Always assumed they were guns.
Shout out to Shademp, the FFVII knowledge GOAT!
0:51 that fits so well it is uncanny
Excellent video! I have always wondered what these NPCs were supposed to look like. I knew they were women, but I didn't know exactly how they were shaped. Floor 60 is a very mysterious area in FF7. At no point in the game do you ever see these female Shinra guards again. Thank you so much for making this video and clearing this up!
Based on the way the keibi a/b models look in game, I figured they were set up to look like they were sitting down.
This is my new favourite channel. Great video. 👍
This stuff is so interesting. Keep up with the good work!
But why do the models in the PS1 version look noticeably different? The PS1 versions kind of look like women standing, wearing red hats with blue capes. The higher res versions look like they have their legs shoved out to the left.
They are definitively not looking as badly "exploded" as on PC. If I remember correctly the PC version is based on a non final version of the PS1 game. Maybe it was fixed for PS1 but the fix never reach the PC dev team. ?
Dude keep it up! Loving the content!
Fascinating, it never really clicked with me that something was wrong with them.
I never noticed they were so messed up despite playing this many times
love your vids and your editing. i hope you keep this up!
Your style of animation and video editing is so captivating!!!
Great content and editing. FF7 has so many quirks that you could be doing this for quite a while!
I always wondered what that obscure mess of pixels was on that floor of the shinra building.
I thought it was (and just wrote it off) as a security drone thing.
You're making great content.
I post youtube comments rarely, if ever, but this channel is just too good, I can't help it. Keep it up!!!
That’s a creepy npc… thank you guys, no more nightmares for now on 😅
Love this content - keep it up!
I'd love to know if you could get past these two guards, similar to how guard skip works. That minigame trips me up every single time lol.
Incredible stuff, amazes me that tbings are being found out all these years later
My general gut feeling is that these NPCs were originally going to be standard male guards, and either the designers changed them to Japanese corporate-style female "greeters" but forgot to modify the dialog and skeleton as well, *or* they were actually supposed to be standard guards and the model that ended up actually being used (presumably accidentally, in this scenario) was some alternate character design asset that was supposed to be a receptionist or something.
(While it's true that female characters can still use masculine-coded speech in Japanese, it would be *extra* out of place in a corporate context, in which female receptionists and similar employees typically still use very stereotypically feminine speech.)
I LOVE this channel.
Screw Sephiroth. These NPCs are the true children of Jenova 😂😂😂
Amazing stuff. I could watch countless videos of you talking with FF7 footage.
I fucking love this channel.
Man I'm so happy I found this channel. I hope you do similar videos about other FF games. Keep up the great work❤
Fascinating details and trivia.
Love these videos bro, genuinely impressed that I am still finding out new information for this 28 year old game we all love!
I was about to go to bed... but when Last Elixir drops a video, there's no sleep
Happy 28th anniversary Final Fantasy VII.

@Ronin_2004 That's ok. I made a mistake. I fixed that mistake. I'm only human. 🤷♂️
Poor girls.
It’s their only screen time but ending up in embarrassing pose.
Ps. God tier editing and content.
I don't know what's funnier: that Square made a mistake akin to Bethesda in their biggest game of all time, or that I never knew this even though I played this game to death when I was a teenager.
never noticed they were twisted in game. The low resolution and the zoomed out shot really masks this out.
Same here. Kinda thought the part sticking out to the side was a gun or something, but didn’t question it further. It definitely looks odd in hindsight.
FF7 has so many weird looking block characters it's hard to tell when any of them are genuinely deformed.
I love this channel so much
@3:24 the "I Know Whats Beneath the Snow Fields" poster just unlocked a gigantic member-berry for me, all the way back to the Shinra no.26 website days and poking around geocities for new fanfiction for my favorite game. I have an external with a ton of ff on it, "snow fields" is of course on there. got to go re-read it now. Thank you for that, love the channel!
I was wondering if anybody would recognize that. Thank you for being a real FFVII fan.
I always thought they were holdimg guns.

"this guy are sick. Very sick, and mangled" What they should have done in the remake is feature those women in a similar area, but they're seriously mangled in wheelchairs. Might be considered offensive, but would have been funny/appropriate.
Under the vast expanse of the starry night sky, three cowboys sat around a crackling fire, the warmth of the flames casting flickering shadows on their faces. As they passed around a flask of whiskey, the conversation drifted from tales of the trail to deeper, more personal matters. Jake, the eldest of the three, spoke first, his voice low and thoughtful. "Y'know," he began, "there's been talk of how in the old days, men would turn to each other for comfort in ways folks today might not understand. It wasn't just about gettin' by; it was about trust, connection, and sometimes… something more. It's said that those acts could bring men closer, build a bond that was as strong as any friendship."
The other two cowboys, Sam and Will, nodded in agreement, their faces serious as they listened. Sam, always the thoughtful one, added, "Ain't no shame in it neither. Back then, you did what you had to do, but it wasn't just about needin' someone-it was about wantin' to be close to someone who understood you better than anyone else. They say those bonds could last a lifetime, stronger than the love of any woman." Will, the youngest, looked at the two older men, a mixture of curiosity and something else in his eyes. "Maybe it's somethin' worth tryin'," he said quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.
As the night grew darker and the fire burned lower, the three men moved closer together, the weight of their conversation hanging in the air. They began to explore the intimacy they had spoken of, tentatively at first, then with growing confidence. As their bodies intertwined, the night was filled with sounds-wild, untamed noises that echoed the primal connection they were forging. In those moments, they discovered a new kind of bond, one that went beyond words and gestures, a bond that was as old as time itself. When the fire finally died down, they lay in silence, knowing that their friendship had been transformed in a way that only they could truly understand.
Under the soft glow of the dying embers, Will stirred and broke the silence, his voice carrying a curious excitement. "You know, fellas, I heard tell of somethin' real special they do out on the plains-somethin' only the most connected of cowboys take part in. It's a bit unusual, sure, but it's a sign of trust and respect among men of our kind." Sam raised a brow, intrigued but wary, while Jake gave a knowing chuckle, his face half-shadowed by the fire's dim light. "You talkin' about milkin' the stallions, boy?" Jake asked, his tone both amused and serious. Will nodded, his eyes bright. "That's right. They say drinkin' the milk of a strong male horse is like takin' in its spirit-like sharin' its strength with the men you trust most."
Sam, who'd always prided himself on being open-minded, leaned forward. "Now, I ain't heard much about it, but it don't sound all that strange when you think about it. Life out here’s tough, and every bit of strength you can take in means somethin'. Besides, it’s about bondin’, ain’t it? Buildin' somethin' deeper.” Jake nodded, his lined face thoughtful as he regarded his younger companions. "It ain't just the act itself-it’s what it means. You milk a stallion together, drink it together, and you’re sharin' somethin' sacred. Trust, kinship, and strength all rolled into one." A slow smile spread across Sam's face. "Well, I reckon we’ve got the horses for it, don’t we?"
The next morning, under the golden blush of dawn, the three men set out toward the corral, their laughter mixing with the low, throaty nickers of the horses. It was a task approached with reverence and camaraderie, each cowboy understanding the quiet significance of what they were doing. When the deed was done, they passed around the still-warm milk, its richness heavy on their tongues. For Will, Sam, and Jake, the act was more than a shared ritual-it was a testament to their bond, a way of celebrating the unspoken trust that bound them together. As the sun climbed higher in the sky, they sat back on the grass, satisfied and stronger for the morning’s work, knowing that few would understand the depth of what they shared.
Hojo's bizarre experiments must be stopped!!
Another win video, keep it up guys! Amazing content!
this video is top-tier so aesthetic much vibe
Idk what to say, I love this channel :D
This is my favorite videogame, and I've never even noticed these NPCs, or at least that there was anything strange about them - likely because I was the impatient gamer who could never do this mini game. I didn't even mistake the NPCs for other graphics (see people commenting that they thought they had guns, or where robots or something), other than maybe just assuming they were the usual Shinra Guards, I simply never thought there was anything about them (when I saw the thumbnail, I was basically like "Who are you?")
I still enjoyed the video, of course, it's really cool to hear how the game is made in various places.
A video I never knew I needed
This is an insane amount of effort put into the visuals of this 4 minute video. Wowsers.
Awesome! I always thought that those legs were rifles 😅
