Hmmm... let me think about the creatures body plan for a moment. >dull teeth (possibly like herbivorous animals) >large eyes that shine at night (clearly nocturnal, possibly having a tapetum lucidum) >pale skin (lack of light exposure from lifestyle that avoids light) >humanoid/ape like body plan, tall and thin (possibly emaciated due to poor diet, body plan suggests primate origin.) >skittish behaviour, ran off when sleeping protag saw it. (If it was predatory it would have not hesitated to kill sleeping prey, easy food; instead runs off.) The original 4chan version is clearly not a fan of being approached; likely territorial/defensive behaviour; 3 eyes denote large range of view typically seen in prey animals. Albeit is curious in nature; showing a level of intelligence. From how the creature is originally described in the non 4chan version; it seems to be some variety of nocturnal, herbivorous, ape like animal similar to a human. While the 4chan version seems to be essentially the same thing; albeit of alien origin.

This story traumatized me more than arguably anything else on the internet. To this day, nothing freaks me out more than the idea of waking up to see something sitting at the foot of my bed.
Ill never forget the version of the story about the married couple waking up and it running to the kids room. It was the first time I straight up had my fight or flight response triggered by something that I knew even back then was fake. The nature of the rakes behaviour means that it really doesnt even have to be a supernatural creature to be scary. Sure the descriptions of its appearance are the cherry on top, but 90% of the terror comes from that simple concept of something unhinged watching you in your sleep
I sleep in my closet and have a bit of foot room at the end and it would be absolutely horrifying to see something in the small space Especially since I'd be having to scramble out and the door is heavy
I still remember finding and watching a video about the Rake around the height of Creepypasta. It was titled something like "THE RAKE CAUGHT ON CAMERA" or something along those lines. It was some dude recording themself acting all panicked for a few minutes, walking around and saying "It's in the backyard" or something, before turning a corner and revealing it was just a gardening rake laying in the grass.
@@sebastiansepulveda547 hey just so i don’t leave you hanging, i’ve been trying to search for awhile and can’t come across it. but my most vivid memory of this video is that the corner they turn around to was a light red brown picket fence. i don’t know if that’ll help at all, but i’ll keep looking when i can!!! youtube search sucks nowadays.
A phrase I heard in my youth describes it perfectly, usually used in a rude way when talking to someone who's severely underweight. The phrase is simply 'you look as thin as a Rake' which honestly describes the creature perfectly.
i had a nightmare about the rake once the biggest part of the nightmare was when i and my brother ran into his room to hide, i had tried to push the dresser in front of the door but just wasn't strong enough i hid under a blanket, my brother hiding under his own on his bed, and as i waited, i heard it open the door, approach me, and place its small palm and lengthy fingers directly over my heart, simply going 'she's here' and then i woke up i've had nightmares about slenderman, jeff, tails doll, etc, but only the rake gave me an ACTUAL proper nightmare, which to me speaks to how well done the concept is (my other 'nightmares,' as an example, consisted of jeff and slenderman breaking into my house just to lounge on the couch and loveseat to watch tv) edit: forgot to add about the slenderman dream, that i had approached him and tried to sit next to him, and without looking away from the tv, he pushed me away by my face
I remember once reading a speculative "cryptobiology" post on the Rake, about what that sort of creature would logically be like, what would it feed, how it would have evaded notice for so long and what not. Ended up being a sort of hominid/ape-shaped scavenger like a coyote.
God the Rake. Im terrified of that thing. When it got really popular I lived in the rurals. Surrounded by forest and acreage. I got so nervous everytime I left my home in the dark or looked out the big windows. Just the idea of a pale figure skittering low to the ground in the dark is horrifying.
I have always had pets, and the idea of something that is not my pet, sitting at the foot of my bed, and just watching me while I'm asleep and none the wiser because I just think its one of my pets is HORRIFYING to me. It reminds me of that creepypasta where someone's dog kept licking them in the middle of the night, only to find out when they wake up that their dog was murdered and couldn't have been the one to lick them. Definitely some of the stuff that scared me the most as a kid.
One thing that helps the picture of The Rake is also what helps analog horror, lack of image quality in general is more forgiving to suspension of disbelief. The other factor is all monsters are scarier the LESS you see of them, your imagination will fill in the blanks with much more terrifying images than anything that a special effects crew can do.
thats why i like it when movies actually TRY to hide the monster design instead of making it entirely in the shot every chance it gets, like the Cloverfield Monster in a way. You can slowly piece together what it may look like throughout the movie but for the most part the shit phone quality of the movie kinda hinders the ability to see whats fake or real. ik there was another movie like this but i forgot the name of said movie
@DjDeadpig I feel like you would have been the kid who wanted to hug a shark in elementary school right? No judgements, I did too, it's totally a positive thing, but you just give off the Snake and Shark kid. If so, me too!
I think what really showed how influential the rake was at the time had to be the sheer amount of "we found the rake at 3 am!!!" type videos that came out when I was younger, that picture of it in the woods scared the life outta me when i was kid lol
This thing not only traumatized me as a kid, but actually made me feel a little uneasy about going to sleep the night David and I did that creepypasta tier list with you a few months ago and talked about it. As a nearly 20 year old adult. No other creepypasta is quite like this one and I'm glad it finally got a video dedicated to it lol
I remember there was this show on Destination America, Monsters and Mysteries in America. Each episode focused on a certain state or area in America and what cryptids/supernatural happenings happened in them, interviewing witnesses and creating dramatic reenactments. One episode had a segment on the Rake. It was about a woman who attended a college, eventually coming across and becoming stalked by the Rake. I was young, but really into creepypastas, and was generally angry that they were trying to pass it off as this creature that could exist. This video gave me some further context, if I wasn't on the internet that much, I would've believed in the Rake too.
I was in middle and high school when creepypastas were popular and I didn't even know about them until well into my adult years. Now I'm watching videos like this and my two thoughts are "how did I miss this" and "well, I'm never sleeping again." 🤣🤣🤣
I was REALLY out of the loop when creepypastas were a thing. Really the only one I knew about was a Warrior cat creepypasta on a Minecraft skins website, lmao. 😂
@@LadyFan05 Yes, that Warriors, lol. It was so long ago that I can’t remember the name of it, but the Minecraft skin was a bloody black cat, and the description had a whole story about the cat killing his mother and writing some ominous message with her blood on a rock. 😂
I was never aware of the Rake as a kid but this creepy pasta series is bringing back a whole lot of memories. I was absolutely terrified of Laughing Jack, Slenderman, and Jeff as a kid with minimal internet supervision, and since I grew out of it later, Sirenhead as well. I was CONVINCED they were real and had a personal mission to kill me (for some reason, idk), almost until high school. (sort of unrelated but I was also convinced that there was an evil alligator under my bed, that the girl's bathroom in my elementary school was haunted, and was terrified of red balloons because I watched clips from IT when I was WAY too young, so it was probably just my imagination and anxiety having an unauthorized dance party) Thanks for making this series, it's bringing back a lot of really goofy and amazing memories!
I love the fact that The Rake, in the initial stories, sounds and visually acts like some feral creature. And then people start saying it talked to them. Then someone hears it talk in complete, audible sentences. And it talks about planning things. I love these gradual reveals that not only is it conscious, it is SMART. Smarter than most people who would even see it. It isn't just fighting to survive, at least not in a way it lets us perceive assuming it has the cat like "refusal to let people see it as injured" reflex. It chooses cruelty for reasons it won't even bother rationalizing to its victims.
Another thing that probably fed into the fear of this creature, most people have had nights where they'd wake and think we've seen something moving, hearing noises in the room that we have no idea what they came from, or feeling something on the bed when there should be no one with you.
The Rake was the first Creepy Pasta I really latched onto, and pulled me into nights listening to the old RUclips channels that read and collected these lovely stories. My first step into the rabbit hole of my love for the creepy and macabre.
My favourite Rake creepypasta I don't remember the name of, but it went something like this: A young boy wakes up in his room in the early hours of the morning, seemingly disturbed by something. Luckily he's partially facing the room, and can look around a bit. He notices he's being watched by a creature (The Rake.) His fight or flight kicks in and he freezes, hoping the creature will think he's still asleep. The Rake watches him "sleep" for hours on end not noticing he's actually awake, and eventually it crawls out of his room into the hallway. The boy hears some wet thudding, some muffled cries of pain and gurgles, and he knows what's happened. The creature returns to his room, dragging a pair of chairs behind it. Over the next few minutes, it drags in and poses on the chairs the dead and mangled bodies of his parents. He positions them as if they're tenderly watching their child sleep. Finally, The Rake uses their blood to paint something on the wall, but the boy can't see what it says because he can't move his head too much. The creature walks over to him, gets on all fours, and crawls under his bed to hide and wait for the boy to get up. Hours pass, with the kid unable to do anything but see glimpses of his parents bloodied bodies and pretend to be asleep to prevent his own demise. After a while, he risks gently moving his head to get a better look at the crude painting The Rake made on his wall and his blood freezes. "I know you're still awake." He spends the morning hours, as the sun slowly climbs, debating how fast he can run, if he can make it to the open window, if he has any hope of escape. One thing becomes clear from the outset: he's fucked, and all he can do now is debate just how fucked he is.
If I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of shuffling in my room, I'd shrug and fall back asleep. The Rake would have to shake me and scream in my face in order for me to actually wake.
The photo being from a trail cam solves that problem of finding the original background because a trail cam would realistically take multiple pictures of the same spot.
I love the Rake and was so excited for this video. It didn't disappoint at all. Short, sweet, and to the point. That dang photo, keeping me up at night... It will never NOT be terrifying. Fantastic work!
This completely hit the mark! As a kid, I always loved creepypastas, but ofc I never really believed them, however the only outliers were the rake, and some Japanese urban legends such as the scissor mouth woman one. Idk why I was terrified of her I'm not even japanese😭😭
The Rake was the reason why I became so scared of the dark, and it affected me all the way to Highschool, even when I knew the rake was fake there was still this fear of something being in the dark with me, watching me, it wasn't until I got my own pet dog, who sleeps beside me, now I sleep peacefully knowing that if something was really there, my dog would alert me.
Creepypastas will always be my favorite thing on the internet. From Slenderman to Jeff the Killer, from Squidward’s Suicide and Dead Bart, it was always the Rake that felt the most realistic. It was truly terrifying
I remember the Rake very well. I remember being scared of all sorts of Internet horror stories but the rake never scared me too bad because everyone always said it would only attack if approached and it would just run if you saw it at the edge of your bed. My parents just told me it was a good monster and that the reason it watched you sleep was to protect you from other monsters and that it was apparently very shy and that's why it ran when you saw it. Of course I was still a tiny bit scared of it because, it's very creepy looking.
There is literally an episode of Monsters and Mysteries in America that not only treats the Rake as REAL, but also combines it with Slenderman. It was the funniest shit I ever saw.
Best birthday gift ever🎉-I love horror and creepy pasta, and learning about more creepy creatures makess my horror fan heart flutter(from fear obviously).
Of every creepypasta to ever exist, this and Stolen Tongues were the only ones to actually scare me and I only recently heard of Stolen Tongues when CreepCast covered it. The Rake had me terrified for ages. The artist renditions actually scared me more than the alleged photo from the game
Just wanted to say that I’ve been around and subscribed since the beginning of your channel and I’m happy to see how much you’ve grown since then Keep up the good work👍
I really wish someone remade that old rake hunting game (the gameplay shown in the background) i remember watching Dlive's playthrough of this game when i was younger, and it might've been my first experience of the creepypasta fandom. So, just because I can. I'm going to try to write a story for this, imagined remake... First off, the location. Instead of taking place within some random forest during the summer. It takes place within Whitetail Ridge, a long abandoned national park, that was established in 1912 by a group of miners. Whitetail Ridge was eventually abandoned in 2003 due to multiple cases of people mysteriously going missing within the forest. Instead of taking place in the summer, it takes place during the winter (making it so the rake can blend in to it's environment better) Instead of playing as some random hunter, you play as a grieving father. Your character's wife and child were murdered by the rake in their own home, and he couldn't protect them. He now is a depressed, alcoholic with nothing to live for. (This not only explains why your even hunting the rake in the first place and, why your character doesn't leave after being attack) eventually you decide to take your R.V. out to Whitetail Ridge, the last known location of the rake. There's no backing out now. You now either, Kill the rake successfully avenging your family's death or die by the rakes claws joining your family in whatever afterlife that may or may not exist... So how'd you like it? Feel free to correct any spelling mistakes or add on to it, or make your own version of the story for the imagined remake. I don't mind.
I remember when my cousin claims he was attacked by the rake to explain a little cut on his arm. I was petrified as a little kid and avoided the woods by our house for a while
I got scared of the Rake but when I tried to explain to my grandma why I couldn't sleep in the dark she thought I meant a garden rake, picture THAT scuttling out of your room and it's way sillier.
I had the same sort of fear of a creepypasta being real, but not of the Rake. The one I thought was real was Eyeless Jack. I remember when I had first heard about it, being 5 or 6 if I remember correctly, and watching a video on it before I went to sleep. The video described Eyeless Jack of having three phases, of sorts, before he'd surgically remove his victims kidneys. I remember the phases well. Phase 1: Scratching at your window, like a squirrel or raccoon. Phase 2: Sounds of your window opening, and soft footsteps in your room. Phase 3: You can now see Eyeless Jack, and he was ready to attack. At first, I initially dismissed it, not because I didn't believe it, but I thought he would've been too far away from me to get me. But that changed when the very same night, I hear a scratching sound at my window and I start to freak out a little, but eventually go to sleep. On the second night, I didn't hear anything and so I thought I was safe. However, on the third night, I woke up randomly from my sleep, facing my wall, which had a dark wallpaper on it, and since I was still slightly scared, my brain saw Eyeless Jack's face, and I burst into tears, going downstairs to hug my dad. funny lil story
I saw a video by Midnight Crick, Analyzing: the Rake, went over the origin of the Berwick photo. It was on a forum called Archery Talk by a poster called Hillbilly Willi. A different video I saw before that specifically tried to find the origin of that image found this to and even some responses from Hillbilly Willi about how he never that it’d get so much coverage & a photo of that spot during the day. In Crick video he talks about how the trail cam worked and how if it was real photo that creature would had to trigger the motion sensors then stand still to for that photo it to have no blur from movement which means either the hoaxer failed to account this fact when making this or It did.
Haven't watched this channel in a while, so I'm kind of surprised that at least some of the new videos are under 10 minutes. Usually these go on for a while, but I guess with simple concepts like this there isn't as much material as things like video games and movies.
I love how much of the creature takes horrifying parts of other creatures and mashes it together to create something beautiful. The tall-thin figure like a wendigo, it comes only at night like a sleep paralysis demon, the hollowed eyes with needle teeth like some deep sea fish, it all works so perfectly and i love it.
Good to know i wasn't the only kid who was absolutely horrified of the rake, i was a kid who was obsessed with spooky stuff so the fact that the rake was the only creepypasta monster that actually made me lose sleep says a lot 😭💀
A few years ago I took a screenwriting class at university and for my final I had to write the first act of a script and my story was pretty much inspired by The Rake. Totally different scenerio and setting but I really liked inputing the feeling of isolation in a wooded area with that thing out there
I drive per bike to work (or home depending what shift I have at the time) in the dark and sometimes I get really paranoid and imagine different monsters or scary people in the dark, now I will imagine the rake thanks😊.
That first image is so iconic to me like that shit is burned into my brain... the trail cam one is iconic too but the illustration is one I saw on so many forums like Xanje and ChickenSmoothie as a kid
It's kinda fascinating to me, despite growing up throughout the time stories like this were being made, I've never heard of most any creepypasta stuff until finding this channel. A lot of it is definitely that I've never been a very 'online' person, but finding horror stories and monsters that date back to my childhood, yet I have no nostalgia for, is an interesting experience.
The bit I find scariest: in most stories etc it waits. It sits there while you are asleep: the time it could eat you or do anything because you are unaware, and it just waits. Until you see it: it wants you awake, it wants you aware, it needs you to fear
Growing up in a heavily wooded and secluded area was rough for me as a kid. My dad would stop the car, open the door, and then my sister would play the Slenderman static noises on her iPod. I had trouble sleeping sometimes.
I've had sleep paralysis and seen similar stuff despite not knowing about the rake until now, and I think the fact this is definitely something I can see other people having dreams similar too is also a factor that really helped this story take off! My dream wasn't the exact same tho, the thing was standing at the foot of my bed and was much taller (and also screamed, stretched it's jaw, and then slowly ate me before crunching down on my skull, which woke me up in a panic)
This story has an effect on me that other horror stories didn't, while recovering from the fear of it I feared waking up at night, so much so that if I did I was carful to not give any signs of being awake until I felt it was safe.
Honestly, the first interaction I had with the Rake was actually through the SCP Foundation with its similar monster, the Shy Guy, and the idea...somewhat scared me mostly because I was a young kid and the guy is somewhat scary both in form and behaviour but never to the same degree and somewhere along the line my kid brain came up with the silly idea that the Rake and Shy Guy were actually enemies. With the Shy Guy being a relentless pursuer of those who've seen its face and the Rake being a more passive figure of unknown intentions, my brain made the Rake into a silent guardian looking to scare off the Shy Guy should it come for whoevers bed he's sat at this night, this actually helped me through my fear of the Shy Guy as if I woke up and the Rake wasn't there then the Shy Guy wasn't coming either and if I didn't wake till morning than the Rake must've scared off the Shy Guy.
aaaaa ive been hoping for the rake!!!! amazing vid!! u rlly did one of my fave guys justice ive been loving the creepypasta era, on my KNEES BEGGING you to do ben drowned - 15 year old me was OBSESSED lmao
Oh hey I remember that trail cam picture! When I was a kid I would see it in videos about the rake as you said but also stuff about the chupacabra and like- aliens. The internet has gotten much mileage out of that one picture!
I loved the video. I've been watching your content for a long time now and I've always found it interesting listening to your videos and hearing your opinions on the topic. I hope your content continues to be even more amazing and I can't wait to see whatever you make next. Also can't wait for that Sonic.exe video because it's going to be hilarious seeing you bully the absolute crap out of the The Disaster that is Sonic.exe. And I know I'm being a bit cold, so cold when I say that but truth be told I shake and might break from reading that story.
the majority of our exposure to the rake was Markiplier and friends playing a silly multiplayer horror game about it, so it never scared us much, but looking at the photo we can see how it freaked people out. We are curious how the image was made, maybe could've been a costume with a bit of photo editing to make it look more wiry?
You should also consider people who suffer from Sleep Paralisis could perfectly have illusions about figures that could connect to the Rake, thus making it more real than expected
I remember hearing this from some old friends in middle school. This creature is what introduced me to creepypastas. And I scared me for like a week or two.
I thought you were gonna talk about the Fresno NightCrawlers, they’re one of my favorite cryptids because they’re just so silly looking, but still so interesting and weird, ig cuz while I’m still a horror fan, I still like being an optimist so the idea of a friendly cryptid is something up my alley
Once you are done with the whole creepypasta thing could you please try playing and maybe make a video about...(insert drumroll here) Little nightmares please I beg of you with the third game coming out soon I feel like it would be perfect timing also I would love seeing you one of my favorite horror people on RUclips talk about my favorite games of all time. Love the video by the way
i genuinly had a nightmare while staying at my grandma's house as a young teenager, maybe around 10 years ago, and i woke up to seeing the rake crawling in the corner until i fell asleep again. *probably* just some shadowman effect taking a very specific shape, but the rake is the only creepypasta to still freak me out purely for that reason
I remember seeing that pic and finding out it's called "The rake", but I never could find more about it. I didn't know more about it than that. I think it was used in creepypasta narrations I listened to sometimes, but I never heard the story of the rake itself... It already was a scary picture to me, but that story would have definitely kept me up as well
Just here to say that you have quickly become one of my favorite channels, you hit just about everything that I like and your art is pretty gad damn cool as well, you have become one of my inspirations in my own art, you showed me that there is actually people that still like this kinda stuff, thank you for being so cool pastra 💫
I remember being obsessed with this series called monster quest as a kid but I'd watch it on RUclips and in a playlist of monster quest episodes there was a documentary style video where they interviewed a few people about there encounter with the rake and how it was very real and as the cryptid obsessed child I was I genuinely believed it
i remember when first heard this story and one of the things that scared me was that if you talked about the rake or thought about it there would be a higher chance of if finding you. To this day a part of me believes that maybe not the rake, but something like it does exists
The Rake genuinely still unsettles me. I’ve always been the one who heads to bed last in my family, so there’s a good several hours where everything is pitch black and I’m the only one awake. Lots of privacy, but it’s easy to get in your own head and imagine that a squirrel snapping a twig outside is something watching you, just outside your window, in the darkness. Waiting for you to go to bed so it can come in.
oh my lord. that first image... I remember first learning about the Rake and other famous creepypastas when I was 12 and was absolutely TERRIFIED of it. childhood fear of the dark returned with a vengeance and I was always scared it was going to get me. even though my family travelled around a lot back in the day I didn't think that would save me, cus no matter where we went, even across continents, it would slowly but surely follow...
I have fond memories of the rake especially the rake game watching let's players play it. And honestly this may be because of my alien hyper fixation but the rakes original description reminds me of the neomorph from alien covenant. Especially the part where they say it has no mouth till it opens its Jaws that reminds me so much of the neomorph. Also great video:)
The rake was the one thing that actually traumatized me as a kid, it took I think 2 years for me to sleep on my back and face away from my door at night while I slept.
I actually remember a time where that photo appeared on a show my dad and I used to watch. I can’t remember the name of it but the show was about these group of people who would have viewers send in strange or supernatural photos or videos from their towns and if the group thought there was some credence to the story and photo, they would go and investigate. Someone ended up sending the photo most people know The Rake for and while I don’t think they ended up investigating anything related to it, you could tell it gave them the creeps.

Hmmm... let me think about the creatures body plan for a moment.

>humanoid/ape like body plan, tall and thin (possibly emaciated due to poor diet, body plan suggests primate origin.)
>skittish behaviour, ran off when sleeping protag saw it. (If it was predatory it would have not hesitated to kill sleeping prey, easy food; instead runs off.)

To me, the scariest thing about the Rake is its name. It sounds so unnatural and doesn’t fit the creature at all that it really adds to its mystery

the biggest part of the nightmare was when i and my brother ran into his room to hide, i had tried to push the dresser in front of the door but just wasn't strong enough
i hid under a blanket, my brother hiding under his own on his bed, and as i waited, i heard it open the door, approach me, and place its small palm and lengthy fingers directly over my heart, simply going 'she's here'
and then i woke up
i've had nightmares about slenderman, jeff, tails doll, etc, but only the rake gave me an ACTUAL proper nightmare, which to me speaks to how well done the concept is
(my other 'nightmares,' as an example, consisted of jeff and slenderman breaking into my house just to lounge on the couch and loveseat to watch tv)
edit: forgot to add about the slenderman dream, that i had approached him and tried to sit next to him, and without looking away from the tv, he pushed me away by my face
its the slenderman? and he's cooking hot dogs on the stove?

I remember once reading a speculative "cryptobiology" post on the Rake, about what that sort of creature would logically be like, what would it feed, how it would have evaded notice for so long and what not. Ended up being a sort of hominid/ape-shaped scavenger like a coyote.
Huh. Makes sense actually.
The fact that the rake of all creatures was featured on a news broadcast makes me a weird kind of happy
Honestly, after years of seeing the picture, my warped perception of “cuteness” urges me to want to pet the Rake for some reason.
If not friend, why friend shaped?
It's human nature to feel an urge to pet horrors beyond comprehension.
i feel like thatd be like petting a guy though. i get what you mean, but i wouldnt pet him. i think id share a drink with him though
@DjDeadpig I feel like you would have been the kid who wanted to hug a shark in elementary school right? No judgements, I did too, it's totally a positive thing, but you just give off the Snake and Shark kid. If so, me too!
@@lumisherbert5682 ok, even I had my limits, I do suffer from time to time with megalophobia.

REAL... i missed some of the most hardcore ones, and i feel weird knowing i missed them???
I was REALLY out of the loop when creepypastas were a thing. Really the only one I knew about was a Warrior cat creepypasta on a Minecraft skins website, lmao. 😂
@@fnaf1983-RWQFSFASXC Dude, do you mean like the Warriors series by Erin Hunter? 🤣🤣🤣 That sounds amazing! What's the title?
@@LadyFan05 Yes, that Warriors, lol. It was so long ago that I can’t remember the name of it, but the Minecraft skin was a bloody black cat, and the description had a whole story about the cat killing his mother and writing some ominous message with her blood on a rock. 😂
@@fnaf1983-RWQFSFASXC 🤣🤣🤣 That sounds hilarious!
0:40 why do I feel like we’re going to get a Sonic themed video given the Sonic .EXE images in the background.
(sort of unrelated but I was also convinced that there was an evil alligator under my bed, that the girl's bathroom in my elementary school was haunted, and was terrified of red balloons because I watched clips from IT when I was WAY too young, so it was probably just my imagination and anxiety having an unauthorized dance party)
Thanks for making this series, it's bringing back a lot of really goofy and amazing memories!
“Unauthorized dance party” is probably my new favorite phrase
Ah yes, "Unauthorized dance party."
Another thing that probably fed into the fear of this creature, most people have had nights where they'd wake and think we've seen something moving, hearing noises in the room that we have no idea what they came from, or feeling something on the bed when there should be no one with you.
i think there were some where they "saw" it but upon closer inspection it was most likely caused by sleep paralysis. still a wild story ngl
@@FevilDraws my own "sleep paralysis" demon was a fun experience.

I NEED A HERO🗣️🗣️
@@BIGBLUBBERYBOZO I'm holding out for a hero.
The Rake was the first Creepy Pasta I really latched onto, and pulled me into nights listening to the old RUclips channels that read and collected these lovely stories. My first step into the rabbit hole of my love for the creepy and macabre.
"Imagine this scenario, late one night while tossing and turning-"
I DREAM OF WHAT I NEEEEEED, I NEED A HERO!!!!!
My favourite Rake creepypasta I don't remember the name of, but it went something like this:
A young boy wakes up in his room in the early hours of the morning, seemingly disturbed by something.
"I know you're still awake."
He spends the morning hours, as the sun slowly climbs, debating how fast he can run, if he can make it to the open window, if he has any hope of escape.
The rake was one of the creepypastas that really scared me when i was younger but gotto love it still after all these years
I'm surprised Pastra hasn't talked about The Oldest View. That would be right up his alley
Mr the oldest hugs is my favourite antagonist by Kane pixels
@@Groovylonglegs the setting reminded me a lot of Silent Hill 2 and 3 too

I love the Rake and was so excited for this video. It didn't disappoint at all. Short, sweet, and to the point. That dang photo, keeping me up at night... It will never NOT be terrifying. Fantastic work!
This completely hit the mark! As a kid, I always loved creepypastas, but ofc I never really believed them, however the only outliers were the rake, and some Japanese urban legends such as the scissor mouth woman one. Idk why I was terrified of her I'm not even japanese😭😭
there was also the eight foot woman in japan too, basically their slenderman lmao
0:14 Why he kinda got a dumpy?
He has to run from house to house and watch people sleep, ya need some strong legs for that.
GOD DAYUM, the rake is DUMMY THICC

Creepypastas will always be my favorite thing on the internet. From Slenderman to Jeff the Killer, from Squidward’s Suicide and Dead Bart, it was always the Rake that felt the most realistic. It was truly terrifying
I've been loving the Creepypasta coverage on this channel thus far! Keep it up!! :D
Yoo it’s the rake, he’s pretty chill
I remember the Rake very well. I remember being scared of all sorts of Internet horror stories but the rake never scared me too bad because everyone always said it would only attack if approached and it would just run if you saw it at the edge of your bed. My parents just told me it was a good monster and that the reason it watched you sleep was to protect you from other monsters and that it was apparently very shy and that's why it ran when you saw it. Of course I was still a tiny bit scared of it because, it's very creepy looking.
my god thats so sweet lmao
@@QUBIQUBED Wasn't expecting that, but yeah.
"Tossing and turning in your bed" The Rake?
"You see something sitting at the foot of your bed" Yep, the Rake
Do you wanna know the scariest part?
Pastra saying "Thank you for watching instead of "Goodbye for now!"
Of every creepypasta to ever exist, this and Stolen Tongues were the only ones to actually scare me and I only recently heard of Stolen Tongues when CreepCast covered it. The Rake had me terrified for ages. The artist renditions actually scared me more than the alleged photo from the game
Just wanted to say that I’ve been around and subscribed since the beginning of your channel and I’m happy to see how much you’ve grown since then
Keep up the good work👍
I really wish someone remade that old rake hunting game (the gameplay shown in the background) i remember watching Dlive's playthrough of this game when i was younger, and it might've been my first experience of the creepypasta fandom.
The Rake is tied with the NES Godzilla Creepypasta as my favorite Creepypasta, purely because of how grounded yet still unfamiliar it is.
I’m also surprised that you didn’t go in to more of the creepypasta.
It feels like christmas morning everytime pastra posts
Thanks for describing the exact events that just happened in my room at 9:28 at night :)
This collection of Creepypastra videos is becoming one of my favorite RUclips series very quickly.
A few years ago I took a screenwriting class at university and for my final I had to write the first act of a script and my story was pretty much inspired by The Rake. Totally different scenerio and setting but I really liked inputing the feeling of isolation in a wooded area with that thing out there
I have never seen a news headline so freaked out before. "WHAT IS THIS?!?!"
I remember actually studying that live action image of the Rake and how the effects were done.
So happy this is here, I was so hyped when I heard the news on X. I love this channel event so much already, Great work, Pastra!!
TWITTAH
I drive per bike to work (or home depending what shift I have at the time) in the dark and sometimes I get really paranoid and imagine different monsters or scary people in the dark, now I will imagine the rake thanks😊.
That first image is so iconic to me like that shit is burned into my brain... the trail cam one is iconic too but the illustration is one I saw on so many forums like Xanje and ChickenSmoothie as a kid
omg finally a thumbnail that is not a jumpscare
Pastra is single handedly, the one who made me start to get into horror
Pastra you should make a video on Marble Hornets. It’s a rollercoaster worth going on. :)
The Rake was always the scariest to me because some of the stories take place in my home state & that always terrified me.
The bit I find scariest: in most stories etc it waits. It sits there while you are asleep: the time it could eat you or do anything because you are unaware, and it just waits. Until you see it: it wants you awake, it wants you aware, it needs you to fear
Awe, I was hoping for a meta commentary on the cryptid mascot you created for your channel, hehe.
Growing up in a heavily wooded and secluded area was rough for me as a kid. My dad would stop the car, open the door, and then my sister would play the Slenderman static noises on her iPod. I had trouble sleeping sometimes.
as soon as i heard "suffling in your room" I knew it was the Rake
With the Shy Guy being a relentless pursuer of those who've seen its face and the Rake being a more passive figure of unknown intentions, my brain made the Rake into a silent guardian looking to scare off the Shy Guy should it come for whoevers bed he's sat at this night, this actually helped me through my fear of the Shy Guy as if I woke up and the Rake wasn't there then the Shy Guy wasn't coming either and if I didn't wake till morning than the Rake must've scared off the Shy Guy.
aaaaa ive been hoping for the rake!!!! amazing vid!! u rlly did one of my fave guys justice
ive been loving the creepypasta era, on my KNEES BEGGING you to do ben drowned - 15 year old me was OBSESSED lmao
Once you are done with the whole creepypasta thing could you please try playing and maybe make a video about...(insert drumroll here)
Little nightmares please I beg of you with the third game coming out soon I feel like it would be perfect timing also I would love seeing you one of my favorite horror people on RUclips talk about my favorite games of all time.
I remember being obsessed with this series called monster quest as a kid but I'd watch it on RUclips and in a playlist of monster quest episodes there was a documentary style video where they interviewed a few people about there encounter with the rake and how it was very real and as the cryptid obsessed child I was I genuinely believed it
The rake feels real because it borrows from the skinwalker, an apalachian folklore monster.
Edit; navajo, not apalachian. my mistake.
i remember when first heard this story and one of the things that scared me was that if you talked about the rake or thought about it there would be a higher chance of if finding you. To this day a part of me believes that maybe not the rake, but something like it does exists
What makes this more interesting is the fact that the Rake got it's own movie!
New sub! Found this channel by that one 'Pastra's reaction to the euphoric brothers biggest sin' and i really enjoyed your videos!
The rake was the one thing that actually traumatized me as a kid, it took I think 2 years for me to sleep on my back and face away from my door at night while I slept.
Feels like summer has been creepypasta season for pastra.
I'm liking this whole creepypasta arc Pastra is on. Keep going!
