I feel like it's just old adage for people to say the 12 is better than the 18, mostly because the comparable cost, which is significant. Obviously that's always a factor, but I will say that KC18 is perhaps the only KC I've ever had that I immediately enjoyed (and I've had several, including store picks and a pick from Fred Noe). I think they did a masterful job blending the oak where it's present but doesn't feel like licking a log. I almost feel like the 12 hits me more that way. KC18 has a great orange zest note that follows the whole experience. At 100 proof, is the ~180 MSRP too much? Probably, but you also don't see many 18 year old bourbons out there, especially close to affordable. Honestly, I'm not mad at it, and even if I can get the KC12 near me at ~40, the KC18 is still a significantly more enjoyable experience for me. FWIW, but YMMV.
I did the Knob 12, 15, 18 taster 2 times several moths apart. Chose 12yr the first time, and 15yr the 2nd taster. 18yr is good but it's not spectacular.
I'd still go with the single barrel. Now if they put out a 12 at 120 proof I’d buy several. And for 40 the 9 is my go to. The 18 dropped here and it's just sitting on the shelf. I'm going out on a limb but I'm gonna say price has everything to do with that. Just saying!
They have to proof it down because the oak on the 18 is overpowering at cask strength. Same deal with Elijah Craig 18. Older juice costs more $$ and comes in at lower ABV.
Love the KC18 not the price at $180. $140-$150. I always have almost the entire Knob Creek lineup open on my bar and backups on the shelves. The KC 12 is one of the best values In bourbon and hard to pay 3x that for the 18. I got my KC18 Batch 2s at $140s and they are fantastic. Debating on getting the batch 3 but have passed and they sit on the liquor store shelves because of the price.
I stand by my statement that Knob Creek's lineup is overall one of the best values in bourbon....the 18 year notwithstanding! Thanks for watching and commenting. - Glenn
Wish you would have focused on picking your favorite and left guessing which was which out of it. Minnick has said, when doing blinds, you should try your best not to guess because you get the most accurate results that way.
Knob 12 is my favorite bottle. I have multiples in the cabinet. We just got back from a Bardstown visit where I rocked the T-shirt. I bought a new to me - little known on RUclips etc bottle at Willet. Have you guys tried the Speakeasy Willet ? I don't see much about it anywhere. I haven't cracked it yet.

I don't yet have either one. I do have a store pic single barrel 120 proof. And a store pic 9. I like those very well
@@JJ-nh8lv those store picks are always pretty good!

12 year is one of my favorites, and it's definitely top 5.

I’ve got all 3 and think the 9 year barrel broof hangs with anything in an old fashioned.. got the 18 year at Costco
Knob Creek Rye is great in an Old Fashioned as well! - Glenn
I like the 2024 KC 18 batch 3 MUCH better than previous years. That said, the 12 is definitely a better value.
