    The main issue I have with the ones that don't disintegrate isn't with your house's plumbing but in the city sewers and sewer treatment plants where they end up clogging and gets in the way of the regular treatment. So it is less about your own individual house and more about the strain it puts on our city systems and wallets, which also bounces back to all of us. There are great documentaries about just that available on youtube.

    Thanks for the video. I like these but don't use them because I have a septic. What I would have liked to have seen in your video is the liquid being used to "break down" the wipe, to represent septic system liquid. Maybe use fresh water, as you did, then utilize water with bacteria/enzymes/yeast and see what happens with them after they enter the enzyme enriched liquid. However, thanks for the video.

    I have used the Dude Wipes for years and have had no problems in an 80 year old home.
    They are fragrance free, no lanolin (which i am allergic to), and they are also available in individual travel packs.
    You have confirmed what i already suspected… that it’s the right product for me.
    Great video, thanks!

      @@RogerWakefieldI used to but then I put an ostomy bag on my belly. The reason I was forced to use them was I was going up to 50 times a day before I put the bag on my belly.. how much it is it through the night. 18 years I never got more than 2 hours of sleep per night. I called them basically naps. And if I didn't wake up in time I was up running the wash taking a shower because it's bad as it gets. Charmin where my favorite as they were the gentlest on my rear side when I was going so many times you try to wipe that many times you'll be bleeding.

I myself use cottonelle, but would still be interested to see. Also, heat. I know cottonelle breaks down in the package if left in warm, not even hot temperatures. That is a good sign. Thanks

    Roger, they will flush, but they may not make it all of the way, and when they do make it all of the way, they cause problems at processing facilities. Have you ever heard of Traptex? Check them out. It is a device with blades that is installed in the bowl at the front of the trap that will allow everything to go through except for materials too tough for the blades to shred - mainly wipes and paper towels. They may cost as much as the bowl you’re putting it in, but in the end, they are worth the cost. While they are not recommended for installation in hospitals due to the danger of some lunatic putting their hand in the bowl and cutting themselves, that’s where you can find them most, but there is almost always a sign on the wall warning people to not put their hands into the toilet due to this device and the risk of injury. These things are a modern marvel.

    i dont think the flush test is creating a high enough water pressure to really pull the wipes through for this test to be spot on, maybe assist might help? I think that would create a much more realistic situation. additionally, you can put most of these wipes into a cup of water and slight spoon swirl will dissolve them. at least, cottonelle and amazon basics did for me. of course theyre still stronger than toilet paper but i dont think theyre in the worst place for septic either.

    I feel the big issue here is a survivorship bias. Plumbers are only going to see the circumstances when it fails. If dozens of people are flushing dozens of brands, plumbers will never be called for the good brands. Plumbers will only see wipes that fail to break down. So all the plumbers who say they only see bad wipes are absolutely correct. Good wipes get no service calls.
    What i would like to see is how they are decomposed to mimic a septic system. Are they going to be eaten like paper or will a lot of residues not break down.

    As a plumber I must say for the love of all that is holy, don’t flush anything but toilet paper! Do you know how many pipe clogs I’ve snaked out in both residential and commercial pipes due to these things? I can’t even count the number. Perhaps in the triple digits. They are the bane of my existence. Further more these things collect in your septics system and break down like never. Neither do tampons ladies, I’ve snaked many of those out as well. If you have to use wet wipes please throw them out! Your plumber will thank you

    • @RogerWakefield
      @RogerWakefield  Месяц назад +1

      What kind of system are you flushing them from? Is it cast iron pipes? PVC? We’ve had no problems with them

    • @tylertyler6418
      @tylertyler6418 Месяц назад

      @@RogerWakefield I’ve done residential, with most of the pipes being cast iron, or terra cotta. I did three years a plumber for a hospital and now I’m at a large manufacturing plant as their plumber. Most of the drains in these facilities are cast iron as well, with some being pvc, or galvanized. I’m in NY but not the city. Even if the wipes don’t cause the clog they really exacerbate the issue and I’ve pulled dozens of wipes out of the lines before the clog breaks. They advertise as “flushable” and sure they do flush but what they do later can be the problem. Some septics I’ve been on when pumped have a thick layer of wipes that just won’t break down.
      But even worse look into what happens for the treatment and sewer crews, where large compounded “icebergs” of wet wipes form and they have to deal with it. It’s pretty wild!

      @tylertyler6418 I wonder if those problems are from baby wipes that aren't flushable though? I do fire inspections, so I've seen how a lot of people choose to live, and I can guarantee a lot of filthy people don't care if a wipe is flushable or not. I use cottonelle flushable wipes in my house and I've never had an issue.
