if you’re having a hard time getting through pride and prejudice like i did, watch the 2005 movie of it first then read. the movie is absolutely stunning in the cinematography, musical score and costumes. i really fell in love with the characters and thus when i read the book everything made so much more sense.
Totally agree. Sometimes with classics it helps to know roughly what is happening. (I love Jane Austen’s books, but it does sometimes take a bit of time to get into a classical book’s way of writing)
Literally what I'm doing right now. I tried the few times to get into pride and prejudice but never did, then recently I watched the movie and it inspired me to attempt to read it again and I'm loving it
i highly recommend all of karen mcmanus! i've loved all her books except for one of us is next (which is kind of a sequel to one of us is lying and i thought it was pretty forgettable and unnecessary)
Throne of glass is so incredibly good. There’s a ton of world building and the characters are so well developed throughout the series. It gets a tiny tiny bit spicy in the later books but nothing compared to ACOTAR. Easy to skip over. Highly recommended. My all time favorite series
The Throne of Glass series is so so good! I read half of “Throne of Glass” before finding out that “The Assassin’s Blade” takes place before, so I definitely recommend reading that book first :)
I actually recommend reading The Assassin's Blade later in the series. I personally read it before the final book. Although it is the prequel to Throne of Glass, it contains a few shorter stories on Celaena's life before the rest of the series, which you will appreciate much more when you are already involved in the character. It doesn't do the book justice if you read it without context.
I absolutely love the ACOTAR and the Throne of Glass series, TOG is a more PG version of the two but there still are some sassy scenes. If you want to read her books you do have to be okay with reading those sassy scenes.
If you don’t mind me asking, what’s the appeal of the ACOTAR and the TOG series? I heard mediocre reviews about them so I’m a bit hesitant to read them. I hope I don’t come across as malicious-sounding, I am just genuinely curious.

If you don’t read The Infernal Devices you’re missing out HALEY. The best trilogy I’ve read or series or book and it’s a fantasy romance that focuses more on an amazing love triangle. Plus the main characters love reading and it’s in the late 1800s (Also not spicy) Cassandra Clare has amazing books in this genre. 📚
I desperately need to pick up the entire series and the different series that Cassandra Clare has written I loved watching the show a few years ago and have rewatched it many times I think it’s time not to read the books but I’m slowly getting into reading again after so many years

I would consider Anne of Green Gables an academic rivals to lovers plus it is a super readable classic that might help get used to classics. It's tied for my favorite book of all time. highly recommend!!!
I love Anne of Green Gables! If you want a recommendation, the same author also wrote Emily of New Moon. It's a trilogy and its really underrated. I loved it and it's a really good YA trilogy.
Pride and Prejudice was also my first ever classic that I read this year and it took me literally 14 days to read cause it's extremely slow paced but I committed to it regardless and I must say I am satisfied. I gave it 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Throne of Glass is the series that got me back into reading, so I highly recommend! I didn't love ACOTAR as much personally, but they each have a very strong following for a reason. Throne of Glass does have some spicy scenes but they don't happen too often and are easily skippable, so I think you should be fine! A few of the books in that series are still on my top fav books list even after years, so I think its at least worth the shot. I even went to SJM's book tour for the last book's release because I loved the series so much. :)
I totally recommend the Dance of Thieves duology!! It's YA fantasy with romance, adventure, and more! Renegades is also a really good YA series with superheroes that is sort of dystopian/fantasy with a really cute romance as well.
You’ll LOVE the infernal devices. It’s a YA fantasy romance and focuses on romance the most. It made me sob and is the best series I have ever read !!!🙂 it’s not spicy but a beautiful love triangle romance of people who love reading and has the best developed love story I’ve read.
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn is YA fantasy with a romance subplot and it’s so good!! highly recommend if you’re just getting into that genre. the second book comes out later this year too 💗
Hi, Haley I highly recommend you to read “Truly Devious” series, I read it yesterday and this sooo good, perfect mix of mystery problem solving+romance😍
ahhh i just finished reading the caraval series it was actually so good !! i could not put it down and read it in like 3 days im so excited that youre gonna read it after this too like perfect timing !!
If you’re planning to continue reading fantasy books with romance, I recommend the Infernal devices trilogy…..it’s high fantasy with a really good romance. Also ONE OF US IS LYING IS ON MY TBR FOR THIS YEAR TOO!
The crave series are so good. People are always comparing them with twilight but they are so different (in a good way). In the first book, yeah, they do have a lot in common but when you get to the second one, they are so different. The second book is *chef kiss*. I recommend them so much!!!
the seven husbands of evelyn hugo was definitely my favourite read of 2021 (and probably one of my all time favourites), definitely read it if you haven’t already heh
All The Bright Places was the most heart breaking book I’ve ever read! It was my favorite book until I read Breathless by the same author. It’s one of those summer type books that takes place on an island over summer vacation. Could not recommend either enough times! Jennifer Niven is the best!
some of my favorites books i read in 2021 were: Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare & Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley And although i definitely had others these were the ones i rated 5 stars, definitely worth checking out.
when i saw the book all the bright places, I started crying. The plot is so heavy to read that all the emotions from the book just came up to me and i could not stand it. it is a relly good book
Personally I loved the annotated version of Pride and Prejudice. I forgot which version I have but on the left page it’s the actual story and there are footnotes which are referred to on the right page. It helped me understand the historical components of the time back then which clarifies why some of the dialogue is important. It helped me understand the story so much more and it’s one of my favorite books and I reread it every other year. I’d recommend that version, NOT reading it dry, especially since it’s your first classic!
I loved The Poppy War series!! I was not really into fantasy books but that series definitely got me hooked. I also just finished These Violent Delights and wow…I was in awe.
Ah I love that you're getting into fantasy!! I would still recommend ACOTAR because the spicy scenes aren't that frequent and can easily be skipped over. I also highly recommend dance of thieves because it is an incredible YA fantasy romance! I also love love love the infernal devices and last hours trilogies by Cassandra Clare! They are top notch fantasy romance books 💕
the to all the boys i've loved before by jenny han is such a good series! the netflix movies I think are more popular than the books but they are hands down my favorite. also the false prince series by jennifer a. nielsen is also amazing if you like fantasy at all
Throne of Glass series is sooo good! I've read the entire series multiple times. The characters are super well developed and the finale had my jaw open. I will say I feel like the actual story starts right around book 4. And yes, there are some spicy scenes because there is romantic development, but it is not revolved around the plot and doesn't happen very often (and really only towards the last couple of books). If you feel uncomfortable, you could get away with skipping them and still get just as good of a read.
I’m here for Hailey’s book content in 2022! One of my favorite books in 2021 was The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon. I did not know the author had other books published, I’m gonna look into that 👀
I love pride and prejudice, but it is definitely slower, and it took me quite a while to get through. It’s a classic love story though, so you should push through! A fantasy trilogy I love is Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson! It’s an adult level book, but there aren’t any spicy scenes that I feel like I need to avoid. There’s romance as well as really cool action, and the final scenes of the trilogy are epic!
I SCREAMED The Masterpiece by Francine Rivers definitely recommend:) so happy you're reading it!! it is a romance book that gave me goosebumps. It's about a male artist who is going through life and has had enough of it so one day a single mother who is a believer gets hired as his personal assistant and the story goes on... It's not a cliche book in fact it is far from it and it is so perfect. I don't want to give too much away. I mean it's Francine Rivers the one who wrote redeeming love. So Good. I FINISHED IT SO FAST
throne of glass concept is really nice !second book was hard to get thru but the plot twist was worth it.There is smut in the later half of the series.VERY STRONG BADASS FEMALE CHARCTER
If you're looking for more YA / Mystery, Karen McManus is great for that! Since 2018 she's published 5 books - the One of us is Lying series (which you have) and three standalones - The Cousins, You'll Be the Death of Me, and Two Can Keep a Secret!! They aren't the most complex mysteries and sometimes the characters feel simplistic, but they are fun short mysteries that you can read in one sitting :) Be aware of the sequel to One of us is Lying (titled One of Us is Next) - it is WAY worse than One of us is Lying LOL, but the stand alone novels are good!
What 🥲 I rated one of us next 5/5 and one of us is lying 3/5. The representation was SO much better, the character development was better and I felt the characters were actually payed attention to by the author. Just my opinion tho. Each to their own ig 🤷🏻♀️
@@beansontoast8819 agreed, the characters were more fleshed out in the sequel! I find a common problem in McManus's books is that other than the protagonist and love interest, we don't get much info or personality from any other characters. However, I found the mystery component in one of us is next to be way weaker, less shocking, and less believable than in the original
@@isabelnelson6875 yep I do think that if I weren’t attached to the characters the mystery wouldn’t have interested me as much as one of us is lying. But I found it less predictable than one of us is lying still bc I didn’t figure it out and wasn’t expecting the cliffhanger
One thing I would suggest since Pride and Prejudice is your first classic would be to watch the movie (I recommend the 2005 version). The toughest part of reading classics is the writing itself because it is so different and can be so difficult. Watching the movie and then reading it can make it a lot easier because you have that extra help from the movie. Hope this helps!
I’m adding all of these books to my reading list, thanks for sharing! 💫 Keep rising to be who you want to be! 💫 #keeprising #risingtobe #aswerise #riser
I absolutely bawled when reading All the Bright Places. I have to say the film was a bit of a let down! One of Us is Lying has a sequel book which is also very good! And when it comes to Sally Rooney, I read Normal People and it took a bit of time to get into because she writes without speech marks. It's also the first book I've read which is more character focussed rather than plot based. All of that being said though, I loved it and I've just started watching the tv adaptation!
Studied The Great Gatsby last year and adored it. A great YA romance and one of my favourite books of all time is Paper Towns. And my favourite book series is the Once series. It’s different and set in Nazi-occupied Poland (so probably not for everyone) but it’s really well written, super immersive, and has some really emotional moments. All these get 5 stars from me
HALEY YOU HAVE ME PUMPED FOR READING THIS YEAR!! I already got two books done with for 2022 and I have to say if you end up liking All the bright places I just read Holding up the universe SOOO GOOD! It’s a YA romance! I just bought Once Upon a Broken Heart and had no idea it was linked to Caraval so now I need to buy that series too which I already wanted 😂😭 ooo can you please post when you’ll read the Crave series I have the same three books you do and I also don’t know if you know but there’s two more books coming out this year Charm and Covet

finally someone who also judges books by their covers!! i literally started reading harry potter after 21 years just because i found an edition with the nicest cover and now im obsessed!!
I used to read a lot as a young teen (i’m 20 now!) and would love to get back into reading but I find myself getting easily distracted and I always have to re-read sentences. I know I should just enjoy my time with a book but it takes me forever to get through a book! I have a habit of buying books and never reading them. For example I have DUNE and Sherlock Holmes: A Study in Pink which I started to read and I doubt I’m going to finish. If anyone is reading this comment could you provide me with some tips on how to get back into reading please?🥺
Ahh I feel your pain! I read so much in my teens too but was in a reading slump till last year! To get out of it I chose books that I found easy to read (for me it was YA romances or Dystopian books) and then I set myself a page goal for each day! I started off small, reading about 5 pages before bed each evening to build up the habit and then with each book read a few more pages each day. Good luck :) (Also having a goodreads account is very motivating as you can track what books you read)
reading music!! you can find reading playlists of all kinds on youtube, musi, spotify! just find music that you like and sets the mood! it really helped me :)
@@Sonia_P7 I definitely need to get back into reading YA books. I’ve just finished binge watching The Hunger Games so I’ll certainly get some dystopian themed books too! Your tip about aiming to read one page a day is so helpful. Thank you so much 😁

SO EXCITED FOR YOU TO READ SARAH J MASS!!!! I will say in this series Sarah j really writes amazingly in the last half of the series. I like to view the first 2-3 books as more of prequels. I know it’s a lot of books, but please please get past at least the 4 th book before you decide to keep reading or not. After I read this series I just gobble up every fantasy romance book there is haha.
Haley if you like fantasy with some romance involved but without the spicy stuff I HIGHLY recommend the Three Dark Crowns series. I loved every character and became so wrapped up in their world.
TOG doesn't get spicy until the later books, but as others have said, easy to skip over. Though I do have the feeling you won't really like the series that much based on watching all your review videos. I can't point to any reason specifically, but I just have a feeling that you won't LOL. Sarah J Maas is a complicated figure and my feelings toward her are complicated as well. I read TOG the year it came out and loved the series until it exploded around book 4 or so. I don't think the later books in the series are as good. I started to hate the main character. I know my feelings in that regard are not the norm. I would say her books are good only because they are easy to devour but once you stop and actually think about them, there are some problematic moments. I do think they are a bit overhyped now but no reason you shouldn't try. Just don't think too hard about them and treat them like trashy TV lol.
uhh i love ur book vids. A book video recommendation to record and give us book tips. Like how to get back into reading and a little rundown of how to like reading again and maybe even how to read more books in a month or however long. 💗

my fav book from 2021 is between beautiful world where are you + alone with you in the ether by olivie blake!! for sally rooneys books, there isn't much plot development so go into it with an open mind. it's about flawed characters that live normal life, but in that is where the beauty of her writing comes from.

I highly recommend you to read “Truly Devious” series, I read it yesterday and this sooo good, perfect mix of mystery problem solving+romance😍
that’s my current read!
LOVE THIS
ahhh i just finished reading the caraval series it was actually so good !! i could not put it down and read it in like 3 days im so excited that youre gonna read it after this too like perfect timing !!
If you’re planning to continue reading fantasy books with romance, I recommend the Infernal devices trilogy…..it’s high fantasy with a really good romance. Also ONE OF US IS LYING IS ON MY TBR FOR THIS YEAR TOO!
The masterpiece is sooo good. Its a little slow in the beginning but then you get hooked! Love your book videos!
I read One Of Us Is Lying a couple weeks ago and I highly recommend it!!!! There’s a little romance in it too😊
The crave series are so good. People are always comparing them with twilight but they are so different (in a good way). In the first book, yeah, they do have a lot in common but when you get to the second one, they are so different. The second book is *chef kiss*. I recommend them so much!!!
I recommend Lovely War, It's a unique book and it's perfect, I swear, I love it so much
I’m currently on the 6th book of Throne of Glass and believe me - it’s SO good. The world building and the character development is immaculate!
The dance of thieves duology is so good. It got me into reading this year!!
the folk of air series (the cruel prince series) is ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES im so glad you liked it!!
the seven husbands of evelyn hugo was definitely my favourite read of 2021 (and probably one of my all time favourites), definitely read it if you haven’t already heh
yes yes yes!!!!! THIS BOOK!!!
All The Bright Places was the most heart breaking book I’ve ever read! It was my favorite book until I read Breathless by the same author. It’s one of those summer type books that takes place on an island over summer vacation. Could not recommend either enough times! Jennifer Niven is the best!
I totally recommend A Court of Thorn and Roses. Its YA series, fantasy, and romance!!
idk if she’d like it cuz its spicyyyy haha
and smut 🙃
yeahhh they moved it to the adult fantasy section in Barnes and noble for a reason…
Throne of glass is literally amazing it will have you in tears
some of my favorites books i read in 2021 were:
Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare & Chain of Iron by Cassandra Clare
House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas
Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley
And although i definitely had others these were the ones i rated 5 stars, definitely worth checking out.
All The Bright Places is such a good book! The movie, not so much. Definitely read the book.☺️ also, I really love your hair, you’re so gorgeous!
The left so much out of the movie. I watched the movie first so I fell in love with that version of Finch.
The Renegades trilogy by Marissa Meyer is my favorite series ever!!! I would always recommend that series to anyone.
when i saw the book all the bright places, I started crying. The plot is so heavy to read that all the emotions from the book just came up to me and i could not stand it. it is a relly good book
If you’re looking for fantasy YA with a romance sub-plot I would recommend Red Queen, it’s an amazing book series.
all the bright places and throne of glass are incredible!! ive never cried reading also but balled reading all the bright places it was amazing
The Masterpiece was the best book I read in 2021! It was soooo amazing! Highly recommend!! ❤️
I’d recommend that version, NOT reading it dry, especially since it’s your first classic!
you should read the shadow hunter series!! I'm sure you will love the romance.
I love you for standing up for what you believe in.
I love that you are able to just put your foot down and say that’s not for you.
I just love you.
the to all the boys i've loved before by jenny han is such a good series! the netflix movies I think are more popular than the books but they are hands down my favorite.
also the false prince series by jennifer a. nielsen is also amazing if you like fantasy at all
to all the boys ive loved before is so good omg
YESSSS TO ALL THE BOYS I LOVED BEFOFE TRILOGY WAS SOO GOOD better than the movies imo
@@farrahwalker9659 FRRR
Spock is so cute in the back 🥺 great vid Haley ❤️
if you want to read a romance series, I think you'd really like "The Summer I Turned Pretty" series!!!! It's the cutest story ever!!!
There’s romance as well as really cool action, and the final scenes of the trilogy are epic!
when you watch the pride and prejudice movie first it helps to get through the book. the movie is just so beautiful! (2005)
I just finished reading The Last Thing He Told Me. I loved it! Super easy read, kept me interested!
the infernal devices is my all time fav series and its a ya fantasy with romance!!
Me too !
They aren't the most complex mysteries and sometimes the characters feel simplistic, but they are fun short mysteries that you can read in one sitting :)
Be aware of the sequel to One of us is Lying (titled One of Us is Next) - it is WAY worse than One of us is Lying LOL, but the stand alone novels are good!
💫 #keeprising #risingtobe #aswerise #riser
once u kinda get used to reading jane austens writing it is SO good !! she is so smart, so sarcastic ugh love her books
All these get 5 stars from me
you should read "red queen" by victoria aveyard that book is so good your going to love it
yes i love that book!!
I started reading again after watching all your book videos and I’ve missed doing! 😭🥰 I’m on book #4 already.
The spicy scenes in acotar are spaced apart. There arent many in the first book, if any at all, I think they're easy to skip over!
The infernal devices and cruel prince series were the one that got me into reading and especially the fantasy genre I love them so much !!
The EMBER IN THE ASHES SERIES IS SO AMAZING! LOTS OF ROMANCE!! HALEY PLEEEEEEEEEASE READ IT!!!!
I AGREE
this series is permanently imprinted on my heart 🥺
One of the book I read is lovely war by Julie berry. It was one of my favorite reads of 2021 and I highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed this book too
Girl you have to read Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe! It’s my favorite book ever so beautifully written highly recommend
Look up “the 7 1/2 deaths of Evelyn hardcastle” it seems so good and has so many good ratings- it’s on my TBR currently!
all time favorite book. it’s beyond great
because haley has such similar taste in books as me, i always keep my ears peeled for whatever suggestions she gives because i always end up LOVING them
Cassandra Clare has awesome YA fantasy! City of Bones is a really really good book
I think she’d love the infernal devices sm since it’s more romance. I’d love for her to read them and vlog it
finally someone who also judges books by their covers!! i literally started reading harry potter after 21 years just because i found an edition with the nicest cover and now im obsessed!!
Thank you so much 😁
@@gwenmarshall7964 ooh I’ve never heard of reading music! I guess it’s similar to when I put on lo-fi study tracks on to try concentrate. I’ll give it a go, thank you so much!
@@lauramoscrop6106 oo yess the Hunger Games books are so good! Would recommend the Maze Runner series too!
I loved “The Masterpiece!” Can’t wait to hear what you think.
Haley becoming more of a book queen every video 🤩✨
Where the Crawdads Sing is on my list to read this year.
yay definitely read it!! Its so perfect
Infernal devices is a YA fantasy that focuses in a love triangle romance and two of them love reading. I think this series is perfect fo you!! The trilogy is my favourite and they made me cry more than any other
OK IM SO HAPPY YOU’RE READING LEGEND. IT’S MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SERIES
GURLLLL ALL THE BRIGHT PLACES WILL RIP OUT YOUR HEART. ONE OF US IS LYING AND ONE OF US IS NEXT ARE BOTH 5 STAR READS. LOVEEE! DID YOU READ THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO? READ A THOUSAND BOY KISSES PLEASSSSEEEEEE!!!
I think all the bright places is overhyped 😭😭😭.
@@cupcakeavi fr
i hate a thousand boy kisses:)
a thousand boy kisses broke my freaking heart i g
off topic but in love of how adorable your dog is in the back🥺
my fav book from 2021 is between beautiful world where are you + alone with you in the ether by olivie blake!! for sally rooneys books, there isn't much plot development so go into it with an open mind. it's about flawed characters that live normal life, but in that is where the beauty of her writing comes from.
I’m soooo happy you read the cruel prince series!!! It’s one of my faves
