      I was feeling sorry for Rich having to explain that contract detail until he suggested that they’d use the franchise tag on Purdy during the 4th year of his contract. He’d be in the same situation Aiyuk is in this year where the team has control, but unless there is an absolute disaster in terms of his performance this year, there is zero chance the Niners let him play out to free agency.

      When it comes down to, you need to accrue 3 years in the NFL in order to negotiate contracts. Teams unfortunately have gotten to a point where they would rather overpay a guy that deal with the alternative of having to start over from scratch as QB.

      It's a hard read with those three. QB rating is basically garbage now and the systems are different plus their supporting cast. Mahommes carried that offense even though he had a "down" season he was audibling runs and correcting run plays constantly. Allen has a solid cast plus he was working meaningful rushing yards. Purdy was probably the most efficient by far and his ypa was insane because of his calculating risk approach. Its just kind of mix.
      Guys like Lawrence, really don't deserve the cash and guys like burrow don't deserve it. Burrow only stays healthy 2/3 seasons at best. I have no idea why he's considered so highly. Sorry to rant
      I think someone will finally wise up and when they get something like a Lawrence or burrow situation they'll just trade for 3 first, 2 2nds and reset using younger QBs or fa. Its becoming less and less a QB driven league because you don't need to be a freak to play anymore. You could plug a lot of other players in QBs situations and get the same or better results with these 40 million dollar plus QBs

    The reason why they were shouldn’t do rather than can’t do it is because they made an agreement. They chose to have an arrangement with the team. It shows a person’s character and Essex when they either complete or break the arrangement. If you do not honor the terms of the agreement that you sign then you’re not a man of your word. Hence the term man. M a N.!
    That is it quality and value that sports used to have and lack severely now. If you will not honor your agreement, then you should not be an organized sports. That goes for the top and the bottom of the key. And that means also the ownership.

  • @Mike__B
    @Mike__B Месяц назад +2

    As to the "why can't he" question, because 1) Because veterans were tired of losing money to untested rookies who never played a snap in their careers, hence the rookie wage scale was written into the CBA and considering ONLY current NFL players get to vote on whether or not to accept that contract they of course are not going to vote to give more money than is reasonable to rookies. It's the way it is. and 2) Does Brockman not remember the days when rookies could negotiate their starting salaries? When rookies were being the highest paid player at their position without every playing a single snap and any associated financial implications of the team needing to carry the salary of said bust. Plus rookie hold outs would be much MUCH more frequent.

    Brock Purdy in games where Trent Williams missed 50% or more of SF offensive snaps in 2023:
    61 for 93
    892 yds

      @irift3 Месяц назад

      Not very many teams have 2 All Pro caliber Left Tackles on their roster. So if Trent goes down, it's going to be the swing tackle or someone that has very few snaps, which means less communication, with the starting line against the premier pass rushers in the league.
