Sooner or later we are all given a death sentence. Mine was the diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease. It was a shock to me and still is. It did force the “One day at a time” frame of mind upon me. But isn’t this the way any Christian should live his or her life? Don’t we pray “Thy Kingdom come? Part of my priestly life is the luxury of getting away from ruminating about my suffering by visiting the sick and dying. When I come away, my suffering is put it perspective. “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” (Romans 8:18 ESV) I disagree with Kate Bowler and believe things do happen for a reason.
This is where the message of the book of Job becomes relevant. God is in control but His acts do not make always sense to us because we are so small and finite. God's order is hidden to our human eyes. We can just trust and love Him in good and bad times, knowing that He would fulfill His eternal purposes through Jesus our Lord! Yes, God has a special plan for His children, but that might not be what we want and think. He wants us to be holy, be like Jesus, be ready for eternal glory... (By the way, the Prosperity Gospel is no Gospel at all.)
Sounds like her "god" is a metaphor. Sadly, a real deity and purpose doesn't really exist. You have to deal with it, grow up, take responsibility for how you respond to life, and move on.
Sadly, it seems that you have missed her point. I am inspired by her experience and I understand what she is talking about. In my opinion, she is far more mature than most people I know.
So powerful. Thanks Kate
Thanks for such a good interview. What a beautiful family. God bless Kate for her honesty in the middle of such a tough journey.
It's when you know God is real bcoz of our pain .
I wanna buy that book....greetings from Indonesia
Step in with love
tbh I'm surprised she still believes in God. Faith seems 2 b what's literally & figuratively keeping her alive. Hat's off & Good Luck 2 her.

I do think that all things can work to our benefit.

If you read her book or listen to her podcast, God is not a metaphor to her. He's real to her.
I've worked in two mental institutions. He's real to many, and some say they are him or her.
