My memory says 1985, Crimea, Austria..... a Russian transliteration (rather than Ukrainian) suggests a different heritage to leading Crimean Tartar composer Merzie Khalitova (Uzbek 1956- ) whose reinforced-concrete folk-tinged sturdy 3rd Sym has already rattled my library's windows. Her 4th Sym is more stripped down (fl+stgs) nearer to Alan Hovhaness. So entirely different from this excellent much younger "Ukrainian" composer, who seems closer to the best in the European "Western" modern classical tradition. And there's a connection with Nazgul Shukaeva a Kazakh-Ukrainian musical catalyst/singer who has collaborated with both Victoria Poleva & Alexey Retinsky.
Retinsky's ULTIMA THULE was immencely impressive, & now I've managed to catch up with his KRAUSEMINZE
and now DE PROFUNDIS all very solid symphonic slabs. Thank you YT & AR !
