I don't want to upset you, but Ushba translates from the Svan language as "mountain bringing troubles". Не хочу вас расстраивать, но Ушба переводится со сванского языка как «гора, приносящая беды».
Hi I’m planning to be there too. I was quite doubt about should i get up to the Koruldi lake or not, but after watching your video i decided to get there for sure. However, just would like to know how long would it take to the lake from the cross over. And is it possible to also have the car to pick you up at the same spot when you are back. Is half a day enough for the trip? I just wanna safe some times for being around more in Mestia. Thanks!
Hey, thanks for watching! To answer your questions, the hike would probably take most of the day, but it depends on how fast you go. From the cross, if we recall correctly, it is 4.7 km but mostly steep and uphill. Theoretically, if you go straight without stopping much along the way, it might take 1.5-2 hours, but we often take quite a bit longer because we are taking pictures and recording videos along the way. If you have a SIM card, there's reception most of the way (even on the trail), so you may be able to get the number of your driver and arrange pickup. If you'd like, some drivers may even drive you all the way up to the lakes themselves (eliminating the need for any walking). The key issue would probably be how many people you are traveling with and how much you are willing to spend. The Delica drivers charge 150 GEL per car for the one-way trip to the top (I imagine a similar fee for coming back down; this is a lot for Georgia, and even in Svaneti). It can be cheaper if you find people to go with you. Note that if you plan to go up to the lakes, you can skip the ski lift, as even going to the cross takes you up much higher than the ski lift! Hope this helps and let us know if you have any other questions! Enjoy your trip!
It was wonderful weather. Our videos are a little behind our real lives, so this was back in June, but our host told us it's really nice from May to September, and the winter sports are also wonderful there!
Love your videos. How long did it take you go up? And then down for you guys? Would you recommend us to bring hiking poles? Seems to be easier to godown with hiking poles!
It is pretty steep just going straight up. If you get a car to the cross and go straight up without stopping, it might take 3-4 hours to ascend and much faster on the descend. We, however, were stopping for pictures constantly, so it definitely took us longer! Trekking poles would definitely help if you can afford the luggage space! Hope you have an amazing time! Thanks for watching! 🥰
@@ChensofaLifetime We are traveling with Carry-on so we will try to buy hiking poles in Georgia/Armenia. I'm a new subscriber and I think your channel is so refreshing compared to other more popular ones. You guys give much more specific travel information than most. Thank you for your work.
If you're lucky enough to be one of the few people to book a plane ticket with Vanilla Sky (it is difficult, as they don't announce their availability and booking can be uncertain), you can fly there from Tbilisi in an hour. Otherwise, it's an 8+ hour drive. We have another video on our channel all about how we got there! As far as accommodations are concerned, Mestia is fairly developed, so there are a good number of hostels, guesthouses, and proper hotels! Hope this helps!
What are your favorite day hikes? Any that you think are underrated? Let us know down in the comments!
You said "you guys have to be here." I listened. It was amazing! The most beautiful place I've been to in my life so far too.

Hi…what month is this???? How far from Tbilisi?
Hey there, this was back in June. Mestia is about 9 hours from Tbilisi by minibus or by train + minibus/taxi combo!
how long does it take to go to mestia from the capital and options for accomodation?
