I read Interview every week, or however often it came out. A lot of it was fluff, fashion, colors on the page. But it was the best thing at the time. It was on newsprint, printed in bright colors, maybe the paper was a bit better quality than that. Not glossy. Just a medium-big format and whatever was in it was absolutely new. It was expensive for me, but I had to have it.

And a lot of people find coal train annoying under any circumstances. I am not one of them. Maybe you are? And if so, that’s your choice.

Metropolitan Life is better; funnier and sharper than Social Studies. Now I learn that she has written a children's book, which seems oddly appropriate. She talks about having had writer's block for an extended period of time in other interviews. However, she seems to have had time to globe trot sharing her views on myriad topics. She's more raconteur than writer.
