Watching Claire constantly trying to find somewhere to put things in her side-by-side freezer always reminds me why I hate that style of refrigerator. Always top- or bottom-freezer for me!

Claire you are such an excellent teacher. Every time I follow along to your baking videos I always churn out an absolutely delicious product. You made me fall in love with baking, and turned it into a relaxing and enjoyable activity as opposed to the stressful and taxing one I initially felt it was when I first started out. Thank you for being so excellent!
I made these for Thanksgiving and boy were they challenging! Claire makes them look a LOT easier. The dough is extremely sticky and soft! Impossible to manage. I ended up just dropping lumps of dough into the fryer. That being said, they are delicious but you need to very generously flour the top and bottom of the dough before putting it in the fridge/freezer. I thought freezing it for a longer time would help but nope. I don’t think I’ll make it again only because of the amount of work it took and the fact that they did not come out aesthetically pleasing at all.
I made these today and so thankful I read your post. You’re right. Super sticky even after I added an extra half cup of flour and chilled it for half an hour. Flouring over and under the dough is super critical. And not a light sprinkle the way Claire did it in the video. You need A LOT of flour. I managed to cut them out and they did taste yummy but phew quite a bit of work went into this.
I am happy I've found your comment. I tried to make these yesterday and the dough was SO hard to work with. All the time I kept thinking wtf did I manage to do wrong. Glad to see that I'm not the only one who's struggled.
Just made these this morning and had the same experience without having read the comments first. Dough was so wet once mixed that I added probably a half cup of flour on top before attempting to roll out and found I could just pat it into place and could skip the rolling step. That should have been my first sign something was up. Heavily floured the parchment paper on bottom, generously floured on top, freezer for 5 minutes...dough was completely stuck to the bottom parchment. Ending up getting one donut and one hole out and fried those as testers and put the dough back in the freezer before attempting to cut any more. Ended up waiting another 5 minutes, pulling it back out, and could hardly cut them while they were still stuck to the parchment. Ended up misshaping almost all of them to get them off the parchment, but just floured my hands, patted them into shape and put them back on floured parchment to put back into the freezer for about 10 more minutes before frying. Every surface the donuts touched in prep for the oil was heavily floured, and I probably ended up with an extra cup in the dough by the time I could get them in the oil. Still came out tasting good, but had temperature control issues due to probably how cold they were when hitting the oil and ended up over-frying most of them. I'd like to try them again but it's such an involved process I don't know if I want to.
Love this show. I love how real Claire is and how the folks that edit this show realize it’s a part of the charm people will want to see. I love the rawness. They mess up and show it… she struggles with the same crap we all do when she cooks like running out of room in the fridge 😂 and random things going off in the background. She’s great, the show is great and the crew is great. Awesome stuff!

I think it’s so cool that the cameraman asked about adding cloves (4:31) and Claire is so humble and confident in herself that she agreed and fetched the clove powder. I think little things like that tell you a lot about how people are wired up. It was a tiny moment, yet so sweet.
My guess would be an adult child of a hoarder is triggered by the mess and overcrowding on her shelves, to the right of her basically the entire video. I didn’t hit the dislike button or anything, but it’s giving me anxiety and making me nauseous, and I didn’t grow up in a hoard, so I’d get it if they did. 🤷🏻♀️ And who cares, dislikes help the algorithm, too, and she’s already famous and rich so no one is being hurt here.

I made these and they were amazing, thank you Claire and team! I halved the recipe because it was just for two people. I also had to use more flour just on the parchment paper as my dough stuck to it so much that it wasn't coming off. They came out so delicious-perfectly crisp on the outside, moist but not gummy on the inside (oil temp is critical)! 10/10 would make again.
I just want to first say I love watching your videos. There is a lot of information that is helpful. I didn't like the inconsistencies of the video when you compare it to the actual written recipe. In the written recipe you used 1/2C Sugar instead of 1/4C that was said in the video. The other one was that in the written instructions you put 1/2c apple cider but the donuts you made in the video you used 1/3rd of a cup. That is a pretty big difference lol, one that is more than likely causing the batter to be way too sticky for so many people on here and on reddit. I will be trying this once more following the measurements of just the video. Edit: So I remade these, this weekend based off of the measurements in the video and they came out delicious. I did end up having to add a just a handful more flour, and I put the dough in the freezer for 5 minutes before putting it on the parchment paper. Very tasty everyone loved it.
Tried to make these for NYE. First the dough turned out to be SO sticky it was absolutely unmanageable. Ended up adding an extra 1c flour, sprinkling MUCH more flour on the sheets of parchment (otherwise it just turns out into a mush from all the moisture in the dough) and chilling for an extra few hours. In the end it was better but I still found it impossible to cut doughnuts out of it. In the end, loaded it into a pastry bag and fried them churros-style. It was delicious, but definitely not an easy recipe - not sure if it is worth all the work. That's a bit sad, because I usually find Claire's recipes to be delicious and inspiring.
My two grandkids and I made these today for our Christmas advent calendar activity. We watched the video first so everyone would be on the same page. It was a great activity and they looked just like Claire’s-inside and out!
I always love the editing but this video is so funny! The too hot or too cold graphic was so cute and when Claire was eating the donut hole and it was all her saying "I dont like donuts" beside her. 😂
So excited to try these! Thank you so much for all the detailed tips/instructions. I am a cake donut aficionado, and love apple cinnamon flavors, so I think I will LOVE them.
I made theses for my husband who is a fan of apple cider donuts, not me. Not until I tasted theses. I had one problem, the dough was sooo sticky that I only got 2 donuts. So, I used a small ice cream scooper. It worked and were sooo delicious. Thank you Claire!!
{I’m late to the party, but….} Thank You for leaving that freezer bit in. You kept it real-that’s exactly what it’s like. Also have the same initial thoughts about doughnuts, but these look so nice & cake-y & crisp, I gotta try (but minus the clove😊).
Claire....I love your kitchen, it's a working, functional, every square inch is utilized dream home kitchen! I've worked in a small garage converted bakers commercial kitchen before and loved it's cramped yet highly functional atmosphere. I agree the apple butter add is next level... will definetly try.
Going back and watching this episode and see the compare contrast after your kitchen remodel. I love the evolution. A great chef can make magic anywhere. Now, to figure out if I can do this gluten free.
Wow! My family and I have been trying to make these donuts for a couple months. The first try, we misunderstood the amount of apple cider and reduced 8 cups to 2 cups and poured it all in. Obvious fail. But last night we committed to really taking it slow and reading and re-reading each step over and over again. With my two grown children and a lot of time and will, we made the most delicious, satisfying, crispy, delightfully but not cloyingly sweet, pillowy, beautiful donuts of our dreams. Thank you Claire!! Our only regret is they didn't taste much of apple which I contribute to a) the brand of apple butter we used or b) the fact that we only had 1/4 cup of the reduced apple cider and added a 1/4 cup of unreduced because we were frustrated and ready to move on with the donut making process. These were so delicious and satisfying and this project was a super fun way to spend a cold, autumn evening. Thank you, Claire

I love how even tho Claire doesn’t do Gourmet Makes anymore, there is still the same laborious tension during some of these videos 😂👏🏽💚
My husband and I just found your show! We love watching you, you make things look so easy!
Spud is such a cute kitty!
“Claire didn’t say much here so I added a fun beat. - Editor” 😂 the editor deserves a raise
I love the stern look of Claire's"Too Hot" oil. Fantastic editing!
I really expected a "Yay!" soundbite (that little kids cheering one) when Clair finally got the fridge closed ;)
I love you! ❤ my new favorite channel! Retired chef here.
Thank you Chef for sharing your wisdom. Happy to see you have your own channel.
i wanna see the crew’s reaction when they eat the food, they seem so sweet 😊
Going back and watching this episode and see the compare contrast after your kitchen remodel. I love the evolution. A great chef can make magic anywhere.
Now, to figure out if I can do this gluten free.
Love the reality shots that are soooo relatable, lol!
LOL!!! I just love the editing in this one!!!
I love these videos, Claire. Please keep making them. I'm hoping for your cook book for Christmas!
Guys, this might be a bold guess... But I think Claire's veredict will be "Hmm"
I love donuts! I think they're underrated.

The best part about these donuts is the smell wafting through the air of the apple orchard gift shop.
